In 2015 negative global economic trends, political tensions, and sanctions policy against countries that are trade partners of Kazakhstan continued to exert its influence on the main basic positions of Kazakhstan’s exports and the overall performance in the country’s economy. In the reporting period, the pace of the national economy development fell to 1.2%, in 2014 this figure was 4.3%. In January-December 2015 the foreign trade turnover of Kazakhstan amounted to 76 billion US dollars and decreased by 37.1% compared to 2014, including exports - by 42.5%. Trade turnover with Russia and Belarus, which accounts for over 50% of the volume of rail transportation decreased by 27.8% and 37.8%, respectively. Generally this had a negative impact on operation of the transport and logistics sector of the country, especially in a traditional for JSC «NC «KTZ» segment of export shipments of general cargo mass. So, due to decrease of world prices and of demand for iron ore on the world market, mainly in the Chinese market, a shipper of such cargo - Sokolov-Sarbaiskoye mining and processing production association - during 2015 exported to China the iron ore in the amount of 190 thousand tons against 2.8 million tons in 2014 and comparing with the level of 2013, this figure had decreased by 30 times. -

Effects of Strong Cross Winds on High-Speed Trains: a Methodol- Ogy for Risk Assessment and Development of Countermeasures
Effects of Strong Cross Winds on High-Speed Trains: A methodol- ogy for risk assessment and development of countermeasures Gerd Matschke, Peter Deeg, Burkhard Schulte-Werning FTZ, Aerodynamik und Klimatechnik Deutsche Bahn AG, Research & Technology Centre Völckerstrasse 5, 80939 München 1 INTRODUCTION The effect of side winds on rail transport has been investigated since the 1970s by interna- tional research, especially by the railways in Germany, England and Japan. For the DB the subject of side winds only became important with the introduction of the ICE2 with its fast, light driving trailer. Since then DB has been involved in intensive interdisciplinary co- operation to develop a generally valid method for rail transport to guarantee that railways can operate safely with a strong side wind. A basic procedure was described and discussed in 1997 at the World Congress for Railway Research [17]. This paper describes the methodology derived from its continuous further development, as summarised in the Draft Code of Practice Ril 401 of Deutsche Bahn pub- lished in May 2000. The procedure specified in Code of Practice Ril 401 was recognised in May 2000 by the Eisenbahn-Bundesamt (Federal Railway Office - EBA) as a means of proving that railway traffic can run safely when there is a side wind and has since then be- come part of the vehicle acceptance procedure used by the EBA. 2 BASIC PRINCIPLES AND PROCEDURE The effect of side wind on rail vehicles is basically determined by the following parameters: The vehicle properties such as shape, weight, position of centre of gravity, running gear properties, etc. -
The Steam Locomotive Table, V1
The Steam Locomotive Table, v1 If you’re reading this; you either like steam trains, or want to know more about them. Hopefully, either way, I can scratch your itch with this; a set of randomizer/dice-roll tables of my own making; as inspired by some similar tables for tanks and aircrafts. Bear with me, I know not everyone knows the things I do, and I sure know I don’t know a lot of things other train enthusiasts do; but hopefully the descriptions and examples will be enough to get anyone through this smoothly. To begin, you’ll either want a bunch of dice or any online dice-rolling/number generating site (or just pick at your own whim); and somewhere or something to keep track of the details. These tables will give details of a presumed (roughly) standard steam locomotive. No sentinels or other engines with vertical boilers; no climax, shay, etc specially driven locomotives; are considered for this listing as they can change many of the fundamental details of an engine. Go in expecting to make the likes of mainline, branchline, dockyard, etc engines; not the likes of experiments like Bulleid’s Leader or specific industry engines like the aforementioned logging shays. Some dice rolls will have uneven distribution, such as “1-4, and 5-6”. Typically this means that the less likely detail is also one that is/was significantly less common in real life, or significantly more complex to depict. For clarity sake examples will be linked, but you’re always encouraged to look up more as you would like or feel necessary. -
Rail Vehicles: the Resistance to the Movement and the Controllability

Zub RAIL VEHICLES: THE RESISTANCE TO THE MOVEMENT AND THE CONTROLLABILITY monograph Dnipro 2017 UDC 629.4.072:629.1.072 C 19 This monograph is recommended for printing by the Science Council of DUIT STATE UNIVERSITY OF INFRASTRUCTURE AND TECHNOLOGY (protocol No 1 dd 8.12.2017). Lazaryan Gorbunov M. Sapronova, V.P. Tkachenko, O.V. Fomin, I.I. Kulbovskiy, E.P. Zub. C19 Rail Vehicles: The Resistance to the Movement and the Controllability: Monograph. Dnipro: Ukrmetalurginform STA, 2017. – 160 p. ISBN 978-966-921-163-7 The monograph substantiates the existence and determines the origin of the constituent element of the resistance to the movement within rail carriages; the constituent is determined by the control of the wheel pairs within the railway track. In this book, we suggest the method to analyze closed power circuit in mechanical power transmission applied to rolling stock. The method of mathematical modeling for two- point contact of the wheel with the rail has also been developed. The characteristics of the kinematic resistance to the movement for a number of types of rolling stock have been obtained. There are power factors which control the rail carriages and their analysis is very important, therefore we address to it in the book as well. -
IL Combo Ndx V2
file IL COMBO v2 for PDF.doc updated 13-12-2006 THE INDUSTRIAL LOCOMOTIVE The Quarterly Journal of THE INDUSTRIAL LOCOMOTIVE SOCIETY COMBINED INDEX of Volumes 1 to 7 1976 – 1996 IL No.1 to No.79 PROVISIONAL EDITION www.industrial-loco.org.uk IL COMBO v2 for PDF.doc updated 13-12-2006 INTRODUCTION and ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS This “Combo Index” has been assembled by combining the contents of the separate indexes originally created, for each individual volume, over a period of almost 30 years by a number of different people each using different approaches and methods. The first three volume indexes were produced on typewriters, though subsequent issues were produced by computers, and happily digital files had been preserved for these apart from one section of one index. It has therefore been necessary to create digital versions of 3 original indexes using “Optical Character Recognition” (OCR), which has not proved easy due to the relatively poor print, and extremely small text (font) size, of some of the indexes in particular. Thus the OCR results have required extensive proof-reading. Very fortunately, a team of volunteers to assist in the project was recruited from the membership of the Society, and grateful thanks are undoubtedly due to the major players in this exercise – Paul Burkhalter, John Hill, John Hutchings, Frank Jux, John Maddox and Robin Simmonds – with a special thankyou to Russell Wear, current Editor of "IL" and Chairman of the Society, who has both helped and given encouragement to the project in a myraid of different ways. None of this would have been possible but for the efforts of those who compiled the original individual indexes – Frank Jux, Ian Lloyd, (the late) James Lowe, John Scotford, and John Wood – and to the volume index print preparers such as Roger Hateley, who set a new level of presentation which is standing the test of time. -
