GRAZIA KANYE TWITTER-SPREE TAKEAWAY Last week, Kanye West returned to Twitter with a bang, iring of 151 incessant tweets, including a series of pro-Trump posts. In one, he wrote: ‘You don’t have to agree with Trump, but the mob can’t make me not love him.’ Within minutes, this allegedly lost him nine million followers (Twitter has denied it was that many). Now, we’re obviously not Trump supporters, but do we really want to erase people from our feeds the second they support someone we disagree with? Only following those whose views align with our own means more people living in political echo chambers – something that led to Trump’sVIEW presidential win in the irst place.

RED ALERT I’m a huge fan of Narciso Rodriguez fragrances, and the latest incarnation – Rouge, £62 – might just be my favourite yet. Yep, us too. hat’s because we’ve signed up to the ’70s resurgence, probably without even realising it. Why? Well, the parallels between now and then are pretty clear. Also a time of political unrest, it was the decade when feminism lourished, consumerism started to be questioned and people looked for escapism via experimentation. And what better way S to express yourself than with hair and make-up? Tapped into by umpteen designers at the spring/summer shows, whether you’re a disco diva or free spirit, there’s something to inspire us all... TIE-DYE TINTS H With the ‘natural’ market growing by 21% and every beauty brand getting 0 shouty about their organic ingredients, it’s no surprise that hair colour is following suit. we hardly need reminding of the signiicance of 2017 for women in Hollywood, with the deluge of sexual harassment accusations levelled at by everyone from Cara Delevingne to Angelina Jolie. Producers, actors and directors fell like dominoes across the industry. hat reckoning seeped into 2018, with the launch of Time’s Up, a fund to protect women in the workplace, founded by heavyweights including Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Chastain and Emma Watson. Seven of the 12 ilms showcased will be directed by women to ‘create a culture of inclusion’. Now, it seems, is a time for optimism and opportunity. CHARLIZE THERON AND DIABLO CODY

THIS WEEK, A SUPERHERO rules the cinema. We’re not talking about a lycra-clad, super-powered Avenger. No, the superhero rocking our world is mother-of-three Marlo, played by Charlize heron in Tully. In her second collaboration with writer Diablo Cody (their irst being the underrated Young Adult), Charlize plays exhausted (and we mean exhausted, not I’ve-been-out-three-times-this-week-and- got-up-for-yoga exhausted) Marlo, whose wealthy brother gits her a night nanny – the titular Tully (Mackenzie Davis). his ilm isn’t just about motherhood – it’s about mental health, the sexism of emotional labour, coming to terms with getting older, the complexities of grown-up life and wrestling with what it is to be the perfect woman to all parties. It will surprise you, make you laugh and cry. But ultimately we love the uncensored and unapologetic way that it depicts motherhood: nappy bins, overhanging bellies, desperate in-car screaming and all. It strikes a brutal chord, particularly a week ater the Duchess of Cambridge’s polished appearance hours ater birthing her third child. Charlize put on 50lbs for the role (by eating her ‘drug of choice’ crisps) and says, ‘If I was gonna play a mother having her third child, I felt a responsibility to do that.’ We’re not into the narrative that it’s Praise be to Diablo ‘brave’ for Charlize to put on weight, and Charlize for but we do applaud her and Cody for not the mother of all pulling any punches when it comes to a superheroes physically and mentally realistic portrayal of motherhood. Of course, just as the Duchess’s experience isn’t everyone’s, neither is Marlo’s. Ultimately though, watching her story play out is truly fortifying. ‘Tully’ is out on Friday WORDS: RHIANNON EVANS.
