The house that Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel began in 1909 freed women from corsets and encouraged them to wear . Chanel quickly became the definition of chic, and grew to represent the ultimate in luxury. After Coco Chanel’s death in 1971, the label lost some of its momentum, until took the reins in 1983 and changed the course of fashion history.
