2 THE RECTORY October 2020

Dear All

Last month brought the sad news of Molly Crabb 's death at the age of 90 at home with her family. She has been so much part of the life of Marston Magna since coming here, after her marriage to Sam Crabb. In normal times I am sure the Church would have been packed with those wishing to show their respect to Molly. Instead we were limited to only thirty people being allowed to come. From my point of view, she was an amazing lady. Becoming Church Warden at the age of sixty and was determined to complete 30 years in that most important role, which she did. But with the advent of Covid 19, we were not able to celebrate Molly's long service to the Church as we would have wished. On the plus side the Church suspended its Annual Parochial Church Meetings where Church Wardens and PCCs are elected, so I am so pleased that Molly died, whilst still in post.

I remember meeting Molly for the first time in the Church when I came here with a view to becoming the parish priest. I thought that here is a person I would be able to get on with. The next time was the day after I moved in. I remember trying to make coffee amongst the chaos of boxes everywhere in the kitchen. However, I did very much appreciate her coming to call. Molly was very knowledgeable about all things to do with the Church especially its history and how to arrange the vestments. She was also very proud of the Newsletter produced at Wickham Farm which goes to every household in the village.

It is especially sad at this time of harvest, which we cannot celebrate in the usual way, as Molly was the force behind the wonderful Harvest Suppers held in our Village Hall. She was also a great supporter of the Friday Morning Cafe which again cannot be held in the same way at present.

Molly came to Church not long before she died with her daughter Caroline, where she was able to lead our prayers so thoughtfully. She had long been on the rota for leading the intercessions. It is some considerable consolation that for many of us that this will be the last time Molly was seen by those she knew.

With my love and prayers for Molly's wonderful caring family

Revd. Barbara 01935 850745 [email protected].
