The global convention on the entertainment business served as a platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge between individuals, countries and conglomerates. Nearly 3000 Indian and 800 foreign delegates attended the convention. There were keynote addresses, plenary and parallel sessions on broad spectrum of issues covering the entire gamut of media and entertainment like Films, Broadcast (TV & Radio), Digital Entertainment, Animation, Gaming and Visual Effects. Internet Screen (13 March 2015; 3) Katrina Kaif’s statue at Madame Tussaud’s Katrina Kaif has become the seventh Bollywood actor to be honoured with a figure at Madame Tussauds, London and joins Amitabh Bachchan (2000), Aishwarya Rai (2004), Shah Rukh Khan (2007), Salman Khan (2008), Hrithik Roshan (2011) and Madhuri Dixit (2012). Dainik Jagran (29 March 2015) 2 Bulletin on Film, March 2015 AWARDS/FESTIVALS Padma Awards presented The President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented the first round of Padma awards at a Civil Investiture Ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on March 30, 2015. Two Indian film personalities were honoured with the Padma Shri on the occasion including writer-lyricist Prasoon Joshi and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Internet Hindustan Times (31 March 2015) 62nd National Film Awards announced The 62nd National Film Awards were announced by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on March 24, 2015. The best feature film award has been bagged this year By Court (Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and English) produced by Zoo Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and directed by Chaitanya Tamhane. The film gets a Swarna Kamal and Rs. 2, 50, 000/- each for the producer and the director. The award for the best non-feature film has been given to Tender is the sight produced by the Films Division and directed by Torsha Banerjee . The film gets a Swarna Kamal and Rs. 1,50, 000/- each for the producer and the director. In Best Writing on Cinema category the best book on cinema award has gone to Silent Cinema (1895-1930) written by Pasupuleti Purnachandra Rao. The book has been published by EMESCO Books. The award carries a Swarna kamal and a cash prize of Rs. 75,000/- each for the author and the publisher. The award for the best film critic has gone to Tanul Thakur. He gets a Swarna Kamal and Rs. 75,000/- 3 Bulletin on Film, March 2015 The prestigious Dada Saheb Phalkle award is being conferred this year on veteran actor and filmmaker Shashi Kapoor. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10, 00,000/-, a plaque and shawl. Deccan Chronicle (25 March 2015) Hindu (25 March 2015) Asian Age (25 March 2015) Times of India (25 March 2015) Tribune (25 March 2015) Haider at London Asian Film Festival Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider which is based on William Shakespeare’s drama Hamlet in the backdrop of turmoil in Kashmir in the 90’s was screened at the 17th London Asian Film Festival held during the month of March, 2015. The film was earlier screened at the 19th Busan International Film Festival. It has Shahid Kapoor, Tabbu and Shradha Kapoor in the lead roles. The film was screened alongwith. Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya, Shonali Bose’s Margarita with a Straw, Nisha Pahuja’s The World before Her and the Pakistani film Zinda Bhag. This ten day festival also paid homage to the popular Indian actor Rajesh Khanna. Choreographer Farah Khan also conducted a class at the festival. The festival came to a close with the screening of the film Bhopal-A Prayer for Rain. The film directed by Ravi Kumar tells the harrowing tale of how the disaster impacted the lives in Bhopal and the suffusing it caused. The award instituted by the Chalachitra Film Society in Thiruvananthapuram in memory of eminent director G. Aravindan comprises a purse of Rs. 25, 000/-, memento and citation. OBITUARIES Siddalingaiah is no more Legendry Kannada film director Siddalingaiah passed away on March 13, 2015 at Bengaluru. He was 78. Born into a poor family of Taruru, Tumakuru district in 1939, he could not study much. But he was fond of theatre and it later led him into films. In a career spanning nearly three decades he directed 30 films and became a household name. Some of his notable films are Bangarada Manushya, Bhoothayyana Maga Ayyu, Narada Vijaya, Bhoolokadalli Vamaraja, Mayor Muttanna, Hemavathi, Premaparva and Puthir. Siddalingaiah had also worked for some Tamil and Telugu films. Deccan Herald (15 March 2015) 5 Bulletin on Film, March 2015 Ameerjan passes away Filmmaker Ameerjan passed away in Chennai on March 17, 2015. He was 73. A protege of late filmmaker K. Balachander he made his debut in 1984 with Poovilangu while he went on to direct more than 20 films both in Tamil and Telugu, he made his name through socially relevant films such as Tulasi. His other notable films are Poovilangu and Siva. Later on, he began assisting K. Balachander when he started making television shows and also directed his own shows. Hindu (18 March 2015) Film Editor dead National award-winning film editor Kishore Te, who had worked in films such as Eeram, Aadukalam and Pardesi passed away in Chennai on March 6, 2015. He was 36. Hindu (18 March 20`15) Cinematographer A Vincent passes away Noted cinematographer-director A Vincent passed away in Chennai on February 25. 2015. He was 86. Born in June 1928 in Kerala, Vincent arrived in Chennai when he was barely twenty and began his career in cinema in Gemini studio as an Assistant Cameraman and went on to direct 55 movies in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam and worked as a cinematographer in 250 Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films. His notable films as director were Bhargavi Nilayam, Marapennu and Thirumangalyam. The films in which he excelled as cinematographer were: Brathukuthervu, Enga Veetu Pillai, Vasantha Maligai, Gauravam, Neela Kuyil, Amar Deep, Prem Nagar, Meherban, Madhavi, Bandish, Dil Ek Mandir and Mahaan.
