ACADEMIC TEACHING EXPERIENCE 2018–present Instructor of Record | Northeastern University, Depart of Music • MUSC 1116, Beethoven, spring 2018 This class is an online, undergraduate-level course for non-majors; it examines the historical contexts surrounding Beethoven and his music and considers the composer’s significance in the centuries following his death and into the current time. The course presents the following topics: Defining Beethoven; Beethoven and Politics; Beethoven’s Life and Works; Beethoven and Disability; Beethoven and Race; and Beethoven and Film.
2016–2017 Instructor of Record | Indiana University, Musicology Department • M510, Women and Music, spring 2017 This class is a graduate-level course for students in the Jacobs School of Music that examines women’s participation in music of the Western world through a series of case studies from various periods in history. The course introduces students to feminist methodologies and explores women as Doran - 1 composers, performers, and patrons in addition to evaluating the representation of women in opera and other genres. It considers how music reflects, engages with, and questions ideas about gender and sexuality. Students are guided through the process of writing a research paper of 10–15 pages.
• M501, spring 2017, fall 2016, and summer 2016 This class is a graduate-level proseminar for students in the Jacobs School of Music. The class focuses on workshopping research, writing, and presentation skills as well as musical analysis. Topics include performance practice, nineteenth-century opera, and women and music during the Renaissance.
