THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Dear Parents and Carers,

Congratulations to Mia Parr and Mya Taylor who have both Achieved Gold this week. They had thoroughly prepared for their interview, writing a speech to explain why they deserve it. Both girls are extremely ambitious, have an amazing attitude to learning and good attendance so that made it an easy decision! Elisha Jones has achieved Richmond PRIDE, showing great determination in order to achieve it. Many congratulations!

Our other great success this week was the Year 5/6 football team and Mr McCulloch who won the Area Football Finals Tournament which means that they are through to the county finals in . Well done boys, we are all very proud of you and good luck for the next round! The trophy is enormous and is currently in pride of place in Year 6.

We have also been thinking about Remembrance. Many children made Remembrance crosses and they were ‘planted’ on Thursday. We were also visited by Mr Laurence Lines, the president of the Richmond British Legion. He led collective worship on Monday and helped us to reflect on the sacrifices our brave Service men and women have made and to ensure that they are never forgotten. We all observed the two minute silence this morning.

In other news this week, Key Stage 1 went on an Autumn walk to observe the seasonal changes to support them with their science work. They enjoyed looking at the changing leaves and talking about why this had happened. Also, on Monday Mrs Foxwell led choir club and we started learning a new song for Christmas. I thoroughly enjoyed joining in!

One of the other highlights of my week has been showing families around our Nursery and Reception, as we had open sessions on Wednesday and Thursday. It is great to show off our super provision. I also had a fun morning with Year 5 as we went to support some of the BBC News and Weather presenters as they completed the Adrenalin assault course for Children-in-Need. Do look out for us on Look North on Monday evening!

Looking forward to next week, we will be taking part in Children-in-Need on Friday. The children have chosen to wear pyjamas for the day and we will be collecting donations for this worthy cause.

For day-to-day enquiries please contact the school office or speak to your child(ren)’s class teacher. Do remember that our Deputy Headteacher, Miss Hodges is available too. As you know, I work for the school for 50% of the week and share my time between school sites. However should you wish to do so, you can always book an appointment to see me, or a tele- phone call, via the school office.

I look forward to seeing you in school soon.

Kindest regards, Mrs K. Williamson Executive Headteacher

C of E are Richmondshire Champions!

Following on from the teams’ second place finish in the local tournament, on Wednesday C of E competed in the area finals.

The team won their opening game 2-0 against a strong Carnagill side. Goals either side of half time from Joe sealed the opening victory. The team them followed this up with another fantastic win, this time cruising to a 3-0 win against . The final group game against saw 2 late goals from Jack and Tom clinch victory. This meant the team finished top of their group to qualify for the semi final.

The semi final against got off to a tough start, with Leyburn nearly getting the opening goal. However a fantastic save from Leo kept C of E on level terms. Two quick fire goals from Joe and Jack proved enough for the team to qualify for the final.

Interestingly, the team met Bedale for the second time in the tournament in the final. An early goal from Jack calmed our nerves and got us off to a flying start. C of E then dominated play, striking the post twice, but eventually finding the net to increase our lead to 2-0. Some strong defending from Louis, and great work in the midfield from Max (c), Tom, Jacob and Cain was enough to see the game out as winners and champions of Richmondshire!!

This huge achievement means the team qualifies for the finals where we will be competing against teams from across the county.

The boys showed excellent team working and a fantastic attitude this afternoon. I am so proud of this outstanding achievement by our children.

Well done Team C of E!

Mr. McCulloch

Congratulations to Reuben Digan (Yr 5) who won the tickets in the school draw for the v Sunderland match: “On Sunday 5th November my dad and I went to see Middlesbrough v Sunderland at the Riverside Stadium and I was very excited as this was the first football match I had ever been to. We had good seats near the front and saw the teams warming up before the match. We also saw the Army parading around the ground to commemorate Remembrance Day. Then it was time for the match. Within 6 minutes Middlesbrough scored and although it was an exciting and fantastic match there were no more goals.” If you would like to take part in the draw for Middlesbrough tickets all you need to do is make a one-off payment on parentpay of £10.
