Davina and the Vagabonds: Bringing Soulful Blues and Edgy Originals To Theater on the Square on March 25

Sponsor: Davita | Partner: Immanuel Presbyterian Church

TACOMA, WASH. – Davina and the Vagabonds have created a stir on the national music scene with their high-energy live shows, quality musicianship, and lead singer Davina Sowers’ commanding stage presence. They are bringing their unique, soulful performance to Theater on the Square on March 25, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are now available, starting at $19.

Davina combines her fresh, original songs with 100 years of American music for an edgy nostalgia that charms both older and younger generations. The Vagabond’s unique sound emanates from a quintet of acoustic bass, drums, Davina’s keyboard playing, and a spicy trumpet and trombone horn section.

Davina and the Vagabonds formed in 2006 out of the twin cities in Minnesota as a jazz and blues band. With influences ranging from Fats Domino and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to and Tom Waits, the band performs with a charm, Memphis soul swagger, and tender gospel passages. Black Cloud, their first full length, all original album, was named one of the 10 best releases of the year by the Minneapolis Star & Tribune, and was awarded four-and-a-half stars from Downbeat Magazine. Their next album, Sunshine, hit number 13 in the Billboard Blues Chart.

Davina Sowers’ voice and stage presence defy categorization. While she has been compared to , Amy Winehouse, , , and Betty Boop, Sowers has set herself apart as a true original, and delivers a one-of-a-kind show.

Tickets to see Davina and the Vagabonds are now available, starting at $19. For tickets call the Broadway Center Box Office at 253.591.5894, toll-free 1.800.291.7593, online at BroadwayCenter.org, or in person at 901 Broadway in Tacoma's Theater District.
