THE DEATH OF THE REVEREND ROBERT L. HARTENFELD

The Reverend Robert L. Hartenfeld, 84, died Thursday, November 28, 2019. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 7th, at Christ Lutheran Church, Fairfield Glade, TN. Pastor Hartenfeld was born February 19, 1935 in Pemberville, OH. He received his education at , Columbus, OH (BA-1957) and the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary, Columbus, OH (BD-1961), which is a predecessor seminary to what is now known as Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University. He was ordained June 25, 1961, into the American Lutheran Church, one of the three predecessor church bodies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. His first call was to be the Pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Monroe, MI (1961-1966), followed by a call to serve as the Pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church, Toledo, OH (1966-1977). Subsequently, he served as Pastor of St. Luke Lutheran Church, St. Louis (Manchester), MO (1977-1983).

In 1983, Pr. Hartenfeld was called to be the Organizing Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, Long Beach, MS. Throughout his time at Grace, Long Beach, Pr. Hartenfeld had a profound impact on helping to establish a social ministry presence in the form of Lutheran Social Ministries of Mississippi (LSMM). For over 15 years, his efforts helped LSMM to serve the people of Mississippi. He retired on November 15, 2000.

Pastor Hartenfeld is survived by his wife of 27 years, Judith Hartenfeld; daughters: Ann Hartenfeld and Susan Lyon; son: Michael Hartenfeld; stepdaughters: Kerrin Pryor and Lisa Dollar; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister: Barbara Daniels.

We remember our servant in Christ's Church with deep love and affection for the years of faithful service to the Church. We commend the Reverend Robert L. Hartenfeld to the loving arms of God as we celebrate our common faith in the hope of the resurrection to eternal life.
