March 2018 e-ISSN: 1857-8187 p-ISSN: 1857-8179 Research Article Linguistics Language and Style in Literary Creativity Keywords: lexical layer, word formation, of Fatos Arapi phraseology, onomastics, figurative language, connotation. Asime Feraj University “Ismail Qemali” Vlore. Albania. Silvana Koço University “Ismail Qemali” Vlore. Albania. Abstract Fatos Arapi is one of the most outstanding writers in contemporary Albanian literature. His contribution to our literature and national culture is of great value. Grealty appriciated, it has become a reference point for new creators. The word at his pen, from poetry to poetry, decade by decade, from one period of creativity to another, gains extraordinary dimensions. He is the poet of figurative transformations of Albanian word and he can be rightly called the poet of metaphor in our literature. Appreciating and estimating F. Arapi creativity for his linguistic wealth, thematic diversity, and the depth and breadth of expression, I have decided to highlight this linguistic richness, in the belief that this study will complement the appraisal made so far to F. Arapi figure, both in literary and linguistic terms. The researches on lexicon- semantic features that are typical of the language of the author‘s work determine even the nature of the stylistic nature and features of his artistic creativity. work, is not only of extraordinary value, but also it reveals many interesting phenomenon that can be studied from many points of view. Linguistic creativity, the use, rephrasing, regional word leaning towards standard language constitute a linguistic monument. In Fatos Arapi‘s pen, words acquire extraordinary dimension, from one poem to another, from one decade to another, from one literary stage to another. -

It is a short historic view of this genre, where the most essential points of formation of which are touched, from the first novel to the contemporary. Trying to give a glimpse of the story of the Albanian novel, besides beginning the cultivation of this genre in our literature, we have also talked about the novel written during our national and post-Renaissance period, about the novel written after the end of the Second World War, the Albanian novel, written and published in Kosovo, as well as the novel written in Albania after the collapse of the dictatorial communist system. So we tried to include almost all literary and historical periods, so that our brief panorama is more clear and comprehensive. In a word, we tried to make a genre history that is great for studying our literature, especially the Albanian novel. Keywords: Albanian novel, brief overview, genre history, comprehensive overview 1. Introduction The formalist researcher, Mikhail Bahtin considers the novel as the only genre always being in the process of developing, and never as a completed one.”ii According to this point of view, however, we can say that even our novel is a literary structure that is taking shape differently every day. -

Of Gjon Buzuku, Compared with Today's Albanian
ISSN2039Ͳ2117MediterraneanJournalofSocialSciencesVol.3(7)April2012 Formation of the Plural of Names to “Missal” of Gjon Buzuku, Compared with Today’s Albanian Elvira Çaushi Lecturer, Aleksander Moisiu University Durres, Albania Abstract. This study has as a purpose to show the ways for the formation of the plural of names in albanian language, tools used and how they have changed, from Buzuku 1555 until nowadays. To show this thing, it is used the scientific research method and use of tabs, issued by the first albanian book “Missal”. It is seen that, the names in albanian, have a particular theme for the plural. There are many names who form the plural as in today’s Albanian, but there are some names to Buzuku that don’t have the same changes in today’s Albanian. 1. Introduction “Missal” of Buzuku is the first monument written in albanian language. This book has a great linguistic significance, that most of the linguists see it, as the foundation for solving a lot of linguistic problems. The formation of the plural of names, occupies the leading place in bay of this problematic. In documented period the names of albanian language are used in two numbers: singular – plural. With time have been made efforts for creation of a particular theme for plural number, that opposes that of the singular. This process has started after the collapse of the accusative ending, while the form of nominative ending, extended to accusative. There are four ways for the formation of the plural of names. 2. Formation of the plural with suffixes The names in albanian language have a particular theme for the plural. -

Honor Crimes of Women in Albanian Society Boundary Discourses On
HONOR CRIMES OF WOMEN IN ALBANIAN SOCIETY BOUNDARY DISCOURSES ON “VIOLENT” CULTURE AND TRADITIONS By Armela Xhaho Submitted to Central European University Department of Gender Studies In partial fulfillment for the degree of Master of Arts in Gender Studies Supervisor: Professor Andrea Krizsan Second Reader: Professor Eva Fodor CEU eTD Collection Budapest, Hungary 2011 Abstract In this thesis, I explore perceptions of two generations of men on the phenomenon of honor crimes of women in Albanian society, by analyzing in particular discourses on cultural and regional boundaries in terms of factors that perpetuate crimes in the name of honor. I draw on the findings from 24 in depth interviews, respectively 17 interviews with two generations of men who have migrated from remote villages of northern and southern Albania into periphery areas of Tirana and 7 interviews with representatives of key institutional authorities working in the respective communities. The conclusions reached in this study based on the perceptions of two generations of men in Albania suggest that, the ongoing regional discourses on honor crimes of women in Albanian society are still articulated by the majority of informants in terms of “violent” and “backward” cultural traditions, by exonerating the perpetrators and blaming the northern culture for perpetuating such crimes. However, I argue that the narrow construction on cultural understanding of honor crimes of women fails to acknowledge the gendered aspect of violence against women as a universal problem of women’s human rights across different cultures. CEU eTD Collection i Acknowledgements First of all, I would like to acknowledge my supervisor Professor Andrea Krizsan for all her advices and helpful comments during the whole period of thesis writing. -
Albania's 'Sworn Virgins'
THE LINGUISTIC EXPRESSION OF GENDER IDENTITY: ALBANIA’S ‘SWORN VIRGINS’ CARLY DICKERSON A THESIS SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF GRADUATE STUDIES IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS GRADUATE PROGRAM IN LINGUISTICS YORK UNIVERSITY TORONTO, ONTARIO August 2015 © Carly Dickerson, 2015 Abstract This paper studies the linguistic tools employed in the construction of masculine identities by burrneshat (‘sworn virgins’) in northern Albania: biological females who have become ‘social men’. Unlike other documented ‘third genders’ (Kulick 1999), burrneshat are not motivated by considerations of personal identity or sexual desire, but rather by the need to fulfill patriarchal roles within a traditional social code that views women as property. Burrneshat are thus seen as honourable and self-sacrificing, are accepted as men in their community, and are treated accordingly, except that they do not marry or engage in sexual relationships. Given these unique circumstances, how do the burrneshat construct and express their identity linguistically, and how do others within the community engage with this identity? Analysis of the choices of grammatical gender in the speech of burrneshat and others in their communities indicates both inter- and intra-speaker variation that is linked to gendered ideologies. ii Table of Contents Abstract ………………………………………………………………………………………….. ii Table of Contents ……………………………………………………………………………….. iii List of Tables …………………………………………………………………………..……… viii List of Figures ……………………………………………………………………………………ix Chapter One – Introduction ……………………………………………………………………... 1 Chapter Two – Albanian People and Language ………………………………………………… 6 2.0 Introduction ………………………………………………………………………………6 2.1 History of Albania ………………………………………………………………………..6 2.1.1 Geographical Location ……………………………………………………………..6 2.1.2 Illyrian Roots ……………………………………………………………………….7 2.1.3 A History of Occupations …………………………………………………………. 8 2.1.4 Northern Albania ………………………………………………………………….
