Prefazione di Sir Peter Blake al libro "Luna Rossa" sulla 30^ America's Cup (2000) La Coppa America è un trofeo molto ambito, ma che di rado ha cambiato mano in 150 anni. Questo non è uno sport per deboli di cuore. Non è impresa da prendere alla leggera o per capriccio. É una lotta tra velisti di Yacht Club sparsi nel mondo che vogliono disperatamente la stessa cosa: mettere le mani sulla Coppa. Il prestigio per il vincitore vale più di qualsiasi altro riconoscimento sportivo. É proprio vincere l’invincibile e fare l’impossibile che affascina uomini di mare, sognatori e miliardari. Ma la vittoria non arriva facilmente. Anzi, il più delle volte non arriva affatto. L’unico modo per vincere è continuare a partecipare, continuare a tornare, una volta dopo l’altra, con l’intimo convincimento di potercela fare. Esitare dopo il primo tentativo non fa parte delle regole del gioco. Ci vogliono persone straordinarie, con una motivazione ferrea, grande esperienza, attenzione per i particolari e dedizione incondizionata. -

A deux semaines de l'échéance, les préparatifs s'accélèrent pour les huit équipes engagées dans les régates du premier Louis Vuitton Trophy à Nice. Les dernières installations se mettent en place, les bateaux sont en cours de mise à niveau et préparés pour les épreuves, tandis que quelques équipes se sont entraînées la semaine dernière sur des voiliers de l'ACC pour être prêtes le 7 novembre, premier jour de la course. À Valence, site de la dernière America's Cup, où plusieurs équipes disposent toujours d'une base opérationnelle, les quatre bateaux de l'ACC qui seront utilisés à Nice ont été remis en ordre de marche pour les régates de novembre. Mardi après-midi, deux de ces bateaux, le GBR 75 (équipe TeamOrigin) et le FRA 93 (équipe ALL4ONE, anciennement K-Challenge), sont arrivés à Nice après un périple de plus de 400 miles nautiques le long des côtes méditerranéennes. « C'est génial de voir ces deux premiers bateaux à Nice » a commenté Laurent Esquier, Président de la World Sailing Teams Association (WSTA) qui, en partenariat avec Louis Vuitton et le Club Nautique de Nice, organise l'épreuve. « Nous avons été soulagés d'arriver à Nice sans difficulté. -

Jack is from the Wakatere Boating Club. It is the second year in a row that a sailor from the club on Auckland’s North Shore has won the overall title of the Louis Vuitton Junior Trophy - last year, Optimist world champion Chris Steele was the inaugural winner. The regatta, sponsored by the New Zealand Herald, began a week ago with the 40 best under-15 sailors from Auckland’s yacht clubs; the fleet was whittled down to the top 20 for the final day of six races in the zippy O’pen Bic boats today. Simon Pearson iii ABSTRACT Grinding set-up in America’s Cup sailing provides the power behind tacking and gybing, where the yacht crosses the wind to change direction. Grinding is also used for trimming the sails, which changes the angle on which the yacht is headed. This study provided a descriptive biomechanical overview of grinding on an America's Cup class yacht, and experimentally evaluated the influence of technique instruction on backward grinding performance. Inter-subject differences in body position (technique) throughout the grinding cycle, the ability to alter grinding technique within an eight-day technique intervention period, and the effect of technique on grinding performance as determined by power output were assessed. The quasi-experimental design, in which each of eleven Team New Zealand America’s Cup grinders served as their own control, assessed four trials of backward grinding at baseline and post-biomechanical technique intervention testing sessions. Each trial was a maximal effort performed against a high load (250 W) and sustained over a period of eight seconds. Sagittal plane video was used to analyse joint kinematics (elbow, shoulder, trunk, hip, knee, ankle angles and joint centre positions) and to calculate the centre of body mass relative to the grinder pedestal.
