Grey Cup Festival presented by Shaw To Bring The Heat to Jasper Avenue; Welcomes Premier and Gold Partners

Edmonton – Today, the Grey Cup Festival 2018 organizing committee announced the first of their Premier and Gold Partners, unveiled the “Bring The Heat” theme, and the location for the 2018 event.

Presenting Partner Shaw, Premier Partners Boston Pizza and Nissan, and Gold Partners Capital Power, EPCOR, Jiffy Lube and Tim Hortons, have joined forces with the Grey Cup Festival to bring fun and exciting events to fans in the week leading up to the game on November 25, 2018.

“We are thrilled to have these organizations partnered with the Grey Cup Festival,” said Duane Vienneau, Executive Director of the Grey Cup Festival. “We plan to make the presented by Shaw the best one to date, and we can only be successful in doing so with the tremendous support of these great partners.”

More corporate partnerships are forthcoming and will be announced in the near future.

The 106th Grey Cup and Grey Cup Festival will be presented by Shaw. “The Grey Cup brings together the tradition, passion, and enthusiasm of millions of fans from across the country,” said Chethan Lakshman, Vice President, External Affairs, . “As a company with deep roots in , Shaw is excited to work with the City of Edmonton, the Edmonton Eskimos and the CFL by giving fans a world-class event at the Grey Cup Festival presented by Shaw.”

“Edmontonians love to rally behind a theme and in keeping with tradition, this year’s Grey Cup Festival will be focused on the city’s warm and welcoming hospitality,” said Brad Sparrow, Co-Chair of the Grey Cup Festival. In 1997, it was a Party In Your Parka; 2002 brought us Wild ‘n Wooly; Edmonton was Hot to Huddle in 2010. “In 2018, we are encouraging fans to Bring The Heat to the downtown core as we throw the hottest party of the year.”

Jasper Avenue from 99th to 96th Street will be Grey Cup Festival central in the week leading up to CFL Championship game, as football fans from across the nation gather for the biggest party of the year. "Edmontonians are passionate League fans," said Mayor Don Iveson. "We intend to bring this same passion and enthusiasm to the 2018 Grey Cup Festival. It's time to bring the heat!"

The Nissan TITAN Street Festival will be located along Jasper Avenue. In 2018, Nissan Canada will continue to act as the official vehicle of the Edmonton Eskimos, the CFL, the Grey Cup championship and the Grey Cup Festival. “Nissan’s ongoing partnership with the CFL and the Edmonton Eskimos reflects the value we see in reaching out to the Canadian football audience,” said Steve Rhind, Director of Marketing, Nissan Canada Inc. “With one in two Canadians following the CFL, it is one of the most popular leagues in Canadian professional sports and the loyal fans crave excitement. Through this partnership, Nissan continues to strengthen its relationship with football fans across the country, as well as reinforce the cutting-edge capabilities of the Nissan TITAN and crossover line-up.”

The Tim Hortons Kick-Off Party will be held on the Festival site on the evening of Wednesday, November 21. “For more than 20 years, Tim Hortons has been a proud partner of both the CFL and Grey Cup,” said Chris Wakefield, Regional Marketing & Sponsorships Lead at Tim Hortons Canada. “We are thrilled to once again be a partner of the Grey Cup Festival and look forward to celebrating its 106th year alongside CFL fans in Edmonton.”

The hugely successful Capital Power Zipline returns to the Grey Cup Festival in 2018. “Capital Power is excited to be a major sponsor of the Grey Cup Festival and to bring back the exhilarating Capital Power Zipline,” said Brian Vaasjo, Capital Power President and CEO. “As an Edmonton-based company, Capital Power is proud to help showcase our city to CFL fans and to raise funds for programs and services in support of military members, veterans, and their families offered by the Military Family Resource Centre.”

New to the Grey Cup Festival in 2018, will be the EPCOR Street Ski and the Jiffy Lube Tube Slide.

“The Grey Cup is more than a game – it’s an iconic Canadian celebration – and EPCOR is thrilled to be a part of the excitement,” said EPCOR President and CEO, Stuart Lee. “This year, we are bringing the EPCOR Street Ski to the festivities, creating a mountain ski experience – in Edmonton’s amazing river valley.”

“Like the Grey Cup, Jiffy Lube is Canadian made and owned. The Boston Pizza Sports Bar and Outdoor Tailgate will be party central over the course of the week. “Boston Pizza is proud to once again be part of the Grey Cup festivities, this time as a Premier Partner, in our home town of Edmonton,” said Jean Whitaker, Director of Marketing, . “This is where our brand was born more than 50 years ago and we have been bringing Canadians together ever since, just like the CFL and Grey Cup. “Edmonton Eskimo season seat holders have first priority to purchase tickets to the 106th Grey Cup, immediately, before general public tickets go on-sale Friday, June 1,” said Len Rhodes, President and CEO of the Edmonton Eskimos and Co-Chair of the Grey Cup Festival. “Edmonton still holds the record for the fastest sell-out in Grey Cup history, selling out in just six days back in 2010, so we know tickets are going to be a hot commodity.”

The 2018 Grey Cup Festival will kick-off on the evening of Wednesday, November 21 and will run through to Saturday, November 24. The 106th Grey Cup kicks-off at 4:00 p.m. MST on Sunday, November 25.
