The Santa and crew made their way kids’ eyes became bigger than the through the Village, stopping to visit cookies they were munching on and everyone who was brave enough to applause erupted. Before anyone could endure the cold. The youngsters were blink an eye, Santa was snug in his thrilled to see Santa Claus coming chair with his elves nearby. And during Christmas Party after his tour through their encounter with the Man in the Big the Village. As Recreation Board Red Suit, Patsy Mills and Meg Stifler Members, Council Members, Village snapped a precious picture that would forever hold memories of Christmas in Mayfield Village. Santa wasn’t the only one with special little helpers, a special thank you goes out to Paul Stifler as he helped the ladies by being their special photographer assistant. Before everyone knew it, Santa had to get back to Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer so that they could visit the other children of the world. But before he went, he came over to me with one thing to say. What he said, I think you will agree, is that Mayfield Village is a GREAT place to be. He assured me that he would return to visit next year and then quickly left to round up his reindeer. If you thought you were dreaming on Christmas Eve and heard something ever so slight, I’m sure you heard Santa say, “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night”. And with that said he went on his way, but I’m sure we will see him again, before the next Christmas day! VOICE OF THE VILLAGE SPRING 2004

Hillcrest Kiwanis – Helping in the Community for 75 Years by Frank Gabbert, Jeannine Murray-Wilson, President

On the evening of January 28, 1929, one hundred businessmen from South Euclid and Lyndhurst held a dinner at the Mayfield Country Club to mark the charter meeting of what would eventually become the Kiwanis Club. Originally known as the South Euclid- Lyndhurst Kiwanis Club, it expanded its community service area in 2000 to include the communities of the Hillcrest area, communities in the Mayfield School District – Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village, Gates Mills, and Highland Heights. Many people still remember the annual summer Ox Roast and White Elephant Sale which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local projects until 1992, when the site at Mayfield and Green was sold to a commercial developer. A fund-raising project this spring will be the annual Pancake Breakfast at Brush High School cafeteria. On Sunday, April 25 and Sunday, May 2 hot pancakes and sizzling sausages will be served from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All money raised enables the Hillcrest Kiwanis to continue their community service projects. Some of the Kiwanis building projects over the years have included the Bexley Park Shelter House in South Euclid, community signboards, and cystic fibrosis tables. Several Kiwanis projects focus on young children and students in local schools.
