I am sure most of us would agree that streaming speakers are not something we’d swap our setup of carefully 60 considered hi-fi separates for, but I can easily see a Fostex place for this kind of streaming speaker system in other PX-5HS rooms around the house. Sonos is almost synonymous with multi-room audio and has captured the market thanks to its seamless control and integration, and has pretty much managed to set the benchmark for affordable music streaming around the home. Despite the company’s resistance to hi-res audio, its newly launched Play:5 raises the sound quality bar and 54 whether you’re a newbie or hardcore quality-audio fan Heed with a separates hi-fi setup, the Play:5 – reviewed on Elixir page 52 – sure makes the music sound sweet, thanks to its innovative room-tuning tech. For those interested in a more traditional hi-fi brand, turn to page 64 where we visit hi-fi stalwart Bang & Olufsen in Denmark as it celebrates its 90th anniversary with the launch of its BeoLab 90 speaker that creates 3600 sound. The distinctive-looking speaker breaks with design convention, and like the Sonos also utilises 100 sophisticated sound-tuning tech to compensate for Ballaké Sissoko & Vincent Segal placement and room acoustics. It just goes to show Musique De Nuit that not all speakers are built the same. And what percentage would you imagine are pushing the work of new undiscovered artists? Yep that's right, about 0.00001. For some reason, the lead up to the yuletide season appears to be all about looking back when it comes to music. The ironic thing about this unfortunate turn of events is that the music labels that push us to buy their wares are trying harder than ever to promote new talent. New artist deals signed by the UK's three big hitters – Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Music – topped 156 in 2014, which is a 30 percent improvement on 2013, and the highest annual total since 2009, when 164 new deals were signed.

Losing Earth A Recent History Nathaniel Rich An instant classic: the most urgent story of our times, brilliantly reframed, beautifully told By 1979, we knew nearly everything we understand today about climate change—including how to stop it. Space, Place, and Protest: Austin’s Progressive Country Music Scene and the Negotiation of Texan Identities, 1968-1978 Travis David Stimeling A dissertation submitted to the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Music. Chapel Hill 2007 Approved by: Jocelyn R. Neal, Chair Jon W. Finson David García Mark Katz Philip Vandermeer © 2007 Travis David Stimeling ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT TRAVIS DAVID STIMELING: “Space, Place, and Protest: Austin’s Progressive Country Music Scene and the Negotiation of Texan Identities, 1968-1978” (Under the direction of Jocelyn R. Neal) The progressive country music movement developed in Austin, Texas, during the early 1970s as a community of liberal young musicians and concertgoers with strong interests in Texan country music traditions and contemporary rock music converged on the city. Children of the Cold War and the post-World War II migration to the suburbs, these “cosmic cowboys” sought to get back in touch with their rural roots and to leave behind the socially conservative world their parents had created for them. As a hybrid of country music and rock, progressive country music both encapsulated the contradictions of the cosmic cowboys in song and helped to create a musical sanctuary in which these youths could articulate their difference from mainstream Texan culture. Examining the work of the movement’s singer-songwriters (Michael Murphey, Guy Clark, Gary P. Nunn), western swing revivalists (Asleep at the Wheel, Alvin Crow and the Pleasant Valley Boys), and commercial country singers (Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings), this dissertation explores the proliferation of stock imagery, landscape painting, and Texan stereotypes in progressive country music and their role in the construction of Austin’s difference.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

Hit Songs Deconstructed Deconstructing Today's Hits for Songwriting Success http://reports.hitsongsdeconstructed.com Penn's Picks: Garage/Psych Volume 1 With the retro Psych/Garage trend in full effect, I thought it would be fun to kick off the inaugural Penn’s Pick Playlist with a look back to where it all began – the 1960s. Chances are that you’re already familiar with some of the more “mainstream” cuts of the era such as White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane), The End (The Doors) and Hurdy Gurdy Man (Donovan), but I’m going to take you down the rabbit hole to hear some lesser known gems that stand their own alongside their more mainstream contemporaries. Slip Inside This House (1967): 13th Floor Elevators You can’t mention the word psychedelic without mentioning the 13th Floor Elevators. Formed in Austin, Texas in 1965 and led by the Psych legend Roky Erickson, the Elevators were one of the first, and best, representatives of the genre.
