The evening began with a Presentation of the Colors by members of Boy Scout Troop 562, which is now sponsored by our club. The doors were closed at 6:00 PM, and guarded by PDG Tom P.. Lion chairman Glenn G. read the rules of the contest, and related the following topic. “Homelessness in California. What Is The Solution?” Each speaker had to discuss the topic for at least five minutes, but no more than 10 minutes, or points were deducted from their score. Of course, all of them gave impressive talks, ex- plaining the problems with homelessness, and their ideas to help solve the many aspects to the problem. It was a tough job for the judges to de- cide on the best speaker. The judges were: Anaya Kirk, Supervisor in District 3; John Wil- liams, a retired pharmacist and currently head of Toastmasters; Pat Shabot, a retired educator and superintendent; and Liz Peterson, the Head of OES, who also works in the County Administrator’s Our student speakers for the evening were Jordaine Breyer, Delaney Snyder, Matti- son Knobloch and Robert Bollinger in the front row.
