Additional Information about Ryerson Placements:
Set in the heart of Ryerson’s downtown campus, Ryerson is home to more than 23,000 full-time undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students. Practicum and internship settings at Ryerson University provide exciting opportunities to work with an exceptionally diverse student body through both the Centre for Student Development and Counselling. The focus of training opportunities at Ryerson will include: individual counselling with particular emphasis on cognitive behavioural therapy for depression and anxiety disorders, opportunities to co-facilitate a wide variety of therapy groups, and crisis intervention skills. The Centre for Student Development and Counselling provides direct service to over 2,000 students annually through individual and group therapy programs, psychoeducational workshops, and in-class presentations. A complete listing of current therapy programs may be viewed at the CSDC website at www.ryerson.ca/counselling. The CSDC currently employs thirteen full-time and part- time staff. Many of these staff members were once masters and /or doctoral level interns at the centre themselves! In addition, we have a number of consulting psychiatrists who are available for ongoing consultation regarding clients referred by interns and counselling staff.
Weekly individual supervision for individual counselling cases is provided by Dr. Diana Brecher, and supervision for group therapy is provided by Dr. Jesmen Mendoza. In addition, interns will be expected to participate in weekly group supervision and case management meetings with other CSDC staff members as well as monthly educational/professional development seminars.
