Executive Summary

This report represents data compiled about Valpo graduates from the classes of December 2013, and May and August 2014. Information was gathered through surveys completed at the distribution of caps and gowns, subsequent on-line surveys, data collected from academic departments, social media, and multiple phone calls and e-mails to graduates.

The overall placement rate for the 2013-14 Valparaiso University graduates who responded to our survey was 94.7%, up from 92.5% the year before. The average placement rate of Valpo graduates for the past five years is 94.5%.

As of March 3, 2015, 546 of 588 graduates (92.9%) responded to our survey, the same response rate as the year before. Of the forty-two non-respondents, twenty were Arts & Sciences graduates, six were Business, four were Engineering and twelve were Nursing. This report excludes international student graduates.

Of the 546 respondents:

396 (72.5%) are employed

116 (21.3%) are in graduate/professional school

5 (0.9%) are not seeking employment

29 (5.3%) are still seeking employment

From the 2013-14 graduate outcomes report, the following is worth noting:

 Graduates are working or studying in 37 states and 9 foreign countries. 36.7% of the 2013-14 graduates reported working or attending graduate school in Indiana. Of those employed, one hundred fifty-three graduates (38.6%) reported working in Indiana. Of those attending graduate or professional school, 35 (30.2%) reported attending school in Indiana. Twenty-six are studying at Valparaiso University, which represents 22.4% of those attending graduate school.

 Ten respondents are involved in full-time service: three in AmeriCorps, one each in Amate House, City Year, Hayes Leonard Elementary School, Holden Village, Peace Corps, Soccer Without Borders, and a Field Hospital in Syria.

 Three respondents are in the Armed Forces: two with the Air Force and one with the National Guard.

 One respondent was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and is in Austria.

 Our survey included the question "How satisfied are you with your current job or graduate school situation?" Of the 425 respondents to this question, 84.5% indicated that they are satisfied or very satisfied with their situation. Almost half (45.4%) said they are very satisfied.

Job & Internship Postings for Valpo Students & Alumni

Recognizing that many employers will not physically visit campus to recruit, we encourage employers to post job and internship openings on our job board. Employers seek to control costs, minimize recruiting expenses and hire in the most cost effective manner. We are making sure students and alumni have created profiles on our job board (Handshake), which allows them to access these job postings and post their résumés for employers to see. Of course we would prefer employers visit campus to recruit students. However, that is not always realistic. We track the number of job postings received through Handshake and in just three months, 747 jobs & internships have been posted by employers.
