My lil' roasted pumpkin slices drizzled with maple syrup and a few dashes of cinnamon,

I spent this weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia at the American Constitution Society Student Convention. Pete Gonzales, Paula Ortiz Cardona, Heather Pearson, and I had a grand old time on UVA’s campus which was, in a word, wonderful (go Hoos, beat Duke).

C’ville is a quaint little town in the middle of Virginia. It reminded me a lot of Champaign–Urbana, honestly, but with more hills and less grass. The people were nice, the dumplings were superb (who knew?), and the convention was motivating and cathartic. I learned a lot from what a lot of smart people are working on right now in legal and non-legal spaces. I caught up with an old friend and roommate. I fell deeply in love with that city despite our visit’s brevity.

I also won an Air Guitar Contest because of my immense creative talent and will to win. You’re welcome, Pete.

1L OF THE WEEK

The 1L of the week is Lauren Hanna! She wouldn't let me put anything embarrassing into this, so I *mostly* refrained. She also told me after the interview that she was planning on IGNORING MY REQUESTS FOR THE INTERVIEW (!!!) because she was stressed about this, but went against her lesser demons, which I greatly appreciate. Do I come off as mean!?! You guys! I make really nice edits to the pictures I am sent, as below. Buy Lauren coffee for being a good sport, she is a delight!

Q: Where are you from? A: Milford, .

Q: Where did you attend undergrad? A: I went to Brown in Providence, Rhode Island.

Q: How’s 1L going? Is there any hot gossip—or as you kids say, tea—that I should know about? A: I feel like if there was, I wouldn't know it. I'm the last person to know anything in my friend group. Let me think of something good - wait, I wouldn't know. Ummm, as far as 1L, I like it most of the time, but mostly I'm excited to be closer to being done. Excited to go home to Boston for the summer. But South Bend in the winter is very boring. Aside from that 1L is going fine!

Q: What's your favorite hobby? A: Probably eating. If I had to pick I'd get sushi in a heartbeat, but I haven't gotten it since I've been in South Bend because it kind of scares me.

Q: Should the Discovery Channel do a “Bear Week” and why is the answer “yes?” A: Yeah, because Brown University is the Bears, so it would probably be a hit. OH MY GOD that probably makes me sound so elitist, you're going to have to take that out. Oh, you're not. Okay I'll just have to own it.

Q: Can you name three non-law school buildings on campus? A: Mendoza, Duncan Student Center, and the Basilica. Thank you, thank you very much.

Q: Tell me about the last trip you went on. A: Ummm, last trip. I visited my best friend in San Fransisco right before I moved to law school. She just got married and moved there, so it was super fun. It was my second time in San Fransisco. She lives near Union Square. It was super fun but super brief. It's a very different place than here. V

** LIGHTNING ROUND**

Q: Bagels or toast? A: Bagels

Q: Kick flip or Alley oop? A: Alley Oop

Q: Alligator or Crocodile?

https://mail.google.com/...thid=thread-f%3A1626450362493140994%7Cmsg-f%3A1626450362493140994&simpl=msg-f%3A1626450362493140994&mb=1[2/25/2019 9:31:51 AM] University of Notre Dame Mail - Fwd: MMU February 25 - March 3

A: Uhh Alligator. This is stressful.

Q: Iity or bitty? A: Bitty. No mmmm, Bitty? Iity? Can I go neither? Okay uhhhhhhh IITTY.

Q: Glamping or Camping? A: Camping.

Q: Do you have anything else you'd like to say to all of your fans? A: No. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. You're welcome for taking the time from my Sunday drive home from Whole Foods, but that'd be about it.

Q: Who should be 1L of the week next week? A: Rose Mooney.

Long Reads of the Week

Notes on a Shipwreck “The little boy is tiny, the mother extremely young. There they are, twenty-five feet away from me. And then, right here, in front of me, three other people are drowning. So, who should I save, then, if they’re all going under at the same instant? Who should I strike out for? What should I do? Calculate. It’s all you can do in certain situations. Mathematics. Three is bigger than two. Three lives are one more life than two lives.” And he stopped talking. Outside the sky was cloudy, there was a wind blowing out of the southwest, the sea was choppy. I thought to myself: Every time, every single time, I have the distinct sensation that I’m face-to-face with human beings who carry an entire graveyard inside them.
