EXPERIENCES TO MAKE YOU WANT TO RETURN.

Do you prefer the bustle of a city or the calm of nature? Would you prefer a delicious artisan pastry at a cosy café or freshly grilled perch by a campfire?

In the Vaasa region, you won’t need to choose one or the other, as beautiful nature and urban city life can be easily combined on a single visit. Everything in the Vaasa region is close by, and moving from one sort of atmosphere and experience to another is effortless.

In the centre of Vaasa, you’ll have your pick of charming cafés, quality restaurants, trendy speciality shops, and a wide selection of cultural experiences. The city centre is just minutes away from the seaside, with stunning views that can be enjoyed on foot, by bike, or by boat or stand- up paddle board! Just a little further away, the gorgeous UNESCO World Natural Heritage scenery of the archipelago and the fertile flatlands of the Ostrobothnian countryside await.

There is plenty to do and experience for all visitors, from families to nature lovers and cultural travellers. Our enthu- siasm and passion for hospitality leave everyone who visits the Vaasa region feeling welcome.

Whatever the itinerary of your visit, our goal is that you depart here with experiences and memories that are sure to have you return soon to the Vaasa region.

The Kvarken Archipelago is Finland’s only Natural Heritage site on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Along with the Swedish High Coast, it is a member of a global community comprising 46 World Heritage Marine sites.

In the Kvarken Archipelago, land uplift is in- creasing the amount of land by one square kilometre each year, which is equivalent to more than 150 football fields. In 2,500 years, the shallow Kvarken threshold will create a natural land connection between Finland and . The landscape was shaped by the continental ice sheet, which covered large parts of Northern Europe and created a depression in the earth’s surface around one kilometre deep.

SEE FAR ON THE FLATLANDS

Vast expanses of stunning flatlands can be found through- out the province. The vast lowlands and green fields that have risen from the sea over time stretch out to meet a calm horizon in all directions. Massive boulders scattered deep in the forests whisper tales of an age of giants hurling them around. Or was it perhaps the ice age?
