My5 Images IMAGES - INTRODUCTION

• Your programmes will be watched across My5, our video service

• My5 is made available across a wide range of platforms and apps, on web, mobiles and TVs

• It is crucial that strong photography/artwork is supplied for My5 and third party platforms

• Viewers use images to help decide what to watch and the quality of images affects a show’s appeal

• Our aim is to get viewers to the episode they want to watch as quickly and easily as possible TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS - SHOW AND EPISODIC IMAGES

• Original photos must be taken with a SLR camera, and delivered in JPEG format, at a resolution of 300dpi – please refer to C5 photography guide for reference.

• Screen grabs WILL NOT be accepted.

• Originals are to be supplied, alongside 2 sets of cropped images.

• The 2 sets of images are referred to as ‘Show’ and ‘Episodic’. We require images to be cut and supplied in ‘Show’ and ‘Episodic’ dimensions – from which our systems automatically generate additional sizes.

• Both sets must be clean – no logo or title treatments. IMAGE CONTENT

Images can include talent, presenters and contributors so that returning viewers, or those familiar with a show, can spot the programme quickly.

They also need to tease and entice new viewers and will be used across Channel5.com and on My5. SHOW IMAGES

• Show images must capture the essence of the programme. SHOW IMAGE SIZES

• Once images are processed to the requirements, please deliver images via the Media Shuttle. Please file originals and processed into the correct folders. IMAGE SELECTION

Channel5.com – Please be aware of graphic furniture, which is automatically overlaid on the image.

Consider right aligning the image content to allow for this overlay. EPISODIC IMAGES

• Episodic images should capture the key EPISODIC IMAGE SIZES element of each individual episode, whether it is the unique contributors, location or action. • Take care to avoid spoilers e.g. with sport images don’t supply an image giving away the result of the match or race.

• If episodic images are not supplied, the show image will be displayed. However, repeated use of the same image for episodes makes it difficult for viewers to distinguish between episodes and this affects viewing. IMAGES IN SITU

The ‘Hero’ image is given to the highest priority programmes of the day. It rotates up to six programmes; only the best imagery is placed in this position.

This sits at the top of My5 – the image size is the ‘Carousel’ size.

Apple, Amazon and Sky promote our programmes within their own video services, outside of My5. This showcases your programme to an audience outside of the Channel 5 portfolio, but it means that it is competing with shows from other broadcasters for prominence.

These platforms editorially select which programmes to promote and the better the artwork the more likely a show will be chosen. Title treatments are preferred.

APPLE • Apple promote our programmes within their ‘Watch The X-Files, ’ and ‘Best of My5’ rails on Apple TVs. with title treatment • We supply this as a square format, 3000 x 3000 px.

• If artwork/a title treatment is available please supply as a layered PSD, including font packages and colourways. SKY Q Sky promote our programmes on the and Top Picks screen. Sky make these themselves in both landscape and portrait.

Artwork/title treatment is preferred although they will accept strong show images over which they will overlay the title.

SKY Q - MILKSHAKE! Milkshake! programmes also feature in the Sky Kids area.

Fireman Sam is an example of show image, portrait, without title treatment.

Compared to other children’s titles, the show would benefit from having a title treatment as it sits directly alongside those that do.
