In this issue we present the work of Carlo Montesi. Carlo Montesi nasce a Roma, dove ancora oggi vive e lavora, nel 1946. Disegna e dipinge dall’età di quattordici anni, quando sbriga commissioni per Giorgio de Chirico. Nel 1966 inizia la sua attività di scenografo teatrale e dal 1968 collabora con il regista Mario Ricci, per il quale realizza una serie di spettacoli rappresen- tati nei più importanti festival teatrali europei, tra cui Edimburgo, Berlino, Londra, Parigi, Amsterdam, Francoforte e la Biennale di Venezia. La sua attività di scenografo e di regista teatrale si sviluppa per più di venticinque anni parallelamente alla pittura, alla quale si dedica invece esclusivamente da quasi vent’anni. Numerose le sue mostre in Italia e all’estero. Di lui scrive Antonio Del Guercio: “Ogni opera di Carlo Montesi risulta strutturata secondo una serie di regole, o princìpi, che si possono così elencare: c’è uno spazio di lontano sapore teatrale (scena, palcoscenico); questo spazio, che di per sé sarebbe di azione (scenica, appunto) viene tradito, alterato, e l’alterazione avviene attraverso la comparsa - l’apparizione - di una iconografia ‘fermata’, bloccata in una sospensione strana; questa qualità sospesa è a sua volta fondata su un impasto inestricabile di suggestioni metafisiche, surrealistiche, di pneumatismi e di parasintattiche incongruenze favolistiche, che si rispondono tra di loro. Il tutto, in una permanente oscillazione tra chiarità asprigne di cilestrini e rosati e una sorta di notturno un po’ stregato.” *** C’è, nell’opera recente di Carlo Montesi, una specie di in- nocente invito ad oltrepassare la soglia che separa il giorno dalla notte, per entrare in una dimensione che si avvicina a quella del sogno. A quella sorta di notturno un po’ stregato, come scrive Del Guercio. Non è un caso, forse, che Montesi nasce come scenografo teatrale; le sue creazioni, difatti, sono spesso delle vere e proprie ‘messinscene’, vibranti santuari onirici dove questo poeta del co- lore allestisce mondi disabitati, vagamente osmotici, surreali; dove saltano tutte le coordinate spazio-temporali, in un felice impasto metafisico di incanto e inquietudine. Baudelairism and Modernity in the Poetry of Scapigliatura Alessandro Cabiati PhD The University of Edinburgh 2017 Abstract In the 1860s, the Italian Scapigliati (literally ‘the dishevelled ones’) promoted a systematic refusal of traditional literary and artistic values, coupled with a nonconformist and rebellious lifestyle. The Scapigliatura movement is still under- studied, particularly outside Italy, but it plays a pivotal role in the transition from Italian Romanticism to Decadentism. One of the authors most frequently associated with Scapigliatura in terms of literary influence as well as eccentric Bohemianism is the French poet Charles Baudelaire, certainly amongst the most innovative and pioneering figures of nineteenth-century European poetry. Studies on the relationship between Baudelaire and Scapigliatura have commonly taken into account only the most explicit and superficial Baudelairian aspects of Scapigliatura’s poetry, such as the notion of aesthetic revolt against a conventional idea of beauty, which led the Scapigliati to introduce into their poetry morally shocking and unconventional subjects.

The same applies with the vessels at the centre of this publication, except that in the case of the MV MARCUS the evidence is un deniable, proven beyond any reasonable doubt and indeed has been accepted by most interested parties (see H2O MAGAZINE, the journal of the RED SEA ASSOCIATION, “A Survivors Tale”) In November 2005 a group of 20 leading experts joined me in the Red Sea for a seminar on the wrecks of the Northern Red Sea. Amongst them were marine engineers, maritime historians, researchers and members of our wreck hunting team with an average of 1000+ logged on these wrecks. Also on board was an all- knowing photo journalist (although he didn’t know the CV’s of his fellow passengers). During one of the nightly presentations the facts contained in this publication were presented to the guests, some facts being revealed for the first time, and the guests were encouraged to dispute the evidence, conclusions and facts, and indeed to present counter arguments.

Il discorso d'odio on line è solo la punta visibile dell'iceberg dell'intolleranza e dell'etnocentrismo. I giovani sono direttamente coinvolti dal fenomeno sia come attori che come vittime delle violazioni dei diritti umani online; l'Europa ha bisogno che i giovani si occupino di curare e proteggere i diritti umani, diritti che sono l'assicurazione sulla vita della democrazia. Il Bookmarks è stato pubblicato per supportare la campagna giovanile per i diritti umani online "Movimento di contrasto ai discorsi d’odio" promossa dal Consiglio d'Europa. Il Bookmarks è utile per quegli educatori e operatori giovanili che intendono arontare i discorsi d'odio on line attraver- so una prospettiva basata sui diritti umani, sia all'interno che all'esterno del sistema educativo formale. Il manuale è strutturato per lavorare con giovani tra i 13 e i 18 anni, ma le attività possono essere adattate ad altre fasce d'età.

(June 17, 2009) Italian singer and musician Jovanotti follows debut US sell-outs by announcing a series of NYC summer concerts with a new transatlantic collective While Jovanotti easily sold out two popular New York venues when he made his US debut here earlier this year, he's looking to the city's incomparable small club scene as an incubator for new inspiration on a global level. Jovanotti will perform with a project called Soleluna NY Lab which combines musicians from his "Roma Colletivo" with New York-based musicians. The gigs will have the 'anything goes' attitude of experimental jam sessions and a surprising roster of international musicians will drop in for guest appearances. Until now, American audiences have had to make do with mere glimpses of the brilliant career of one of Italy’s most famous contemporary artists, the Tuscan singer and songwriter Lorenzo Cherubini, professionally known as Jovanotti. Over the past twenty years his recorded collaborations with Michael Franti, Ben Harper, Carlinhos Brown, Sergio Mendes, and Bono, among other well-known names, have occasionally caught the ear of the adventurous listener.
