Avid Motion Graphics Version 2.6.2 ReadMe

Date Revised Changes Made

2/27/15 This Readme includes critical software fixes for Avid Motion Graphics (version 2.6.2).

Important Information Avid recommends that you read all the information in this ReadMe file thoroughly before installing or using any new software release.

IMPORTANT: The release of Avid Motion Graphics (v2.6 or later) REQUIRES an AJA firmware upgrade. The software will not work correctly without performing the AJA Firmware upgrade. If you have not performed the AJA firmware upgrade (which was available in AMG v2.6.1), you should perform it now. Note: As part of this upgrade, you also must install updated AJA firmware. The firmware installer is in the AJA\k3gquad-2014-06-25 folder on your install disk. The procedure for installing the firmware is available on the Avid Knowledge Base: http://www.avid.com/US/support. In the “Search the Knowledge Base” field, search for “Avid Motion Graphics Driver and AJA Firmware Update” article. Or, click this link to go directly to the article: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/download/Avid- Motion-Graphics-Driver-and-AJA-Firmware-Update- Notice?popup=true&NewLang=en&DocType=1450&q=aja%20firmware&site=kbase&filter=0

Then, click the AJA_FIRMWARE_UPGRADE_PROCEDURE_12_13.pdf link at the bottom of the article, follow the procedure in the document titled “AJA KONA -3G QUAD Firmware Update Procedure”, and use the AJA\k3qquad-2014-06-25 folder in your installer to complete the steps in the procedure.

Note: Search the Avid Knowledge Base (http://www.avid.com//US/support) for the most up-to-date ReadMe file, which contains the latest information that might have become available after the documentation was published.

Version Compatibility Matrix The following table shows the compatible software versions:

Avid Motion Graphics Server v2.6.2 AMG Control v1.2 AMG Advanced Device Manager v1.2 AMG Journalist v1.2 AMG Deko v1.3 iNEWS v4.5 and later iNEWS Command v3.1.5

48 GB Memory Increase Required for Version 2.5 and later With the release of Avid Motion Graphics (AMG) v2.5, Avid Motion Graphics now requires 48 GB of memory. All new Avid Motion Graphics servers ship with 48 GB of memory installed. The reason for the increased RAM is to be able to support the features available when using dual full-capable AMG rendering engines. If you are upgrading to AMG v2.5 or later software from an earlier version of AMG, and your server has only 12 GB of memory, you will need to purchase additional memory.

For more information, and to order the 48GB RAM Upgrade Kit, please contact Avid Sales.

If you try to install AMG v2.5 or later software on a server with less than 48GB of memory, the software will install, but you will get a warning message.

Viewing PDF Files In addition to the Online Help, included with the AMG v2.6 application, all of the AMG installation and user documentation is available in PDF format. Therefore, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed to view the PDF files. You can download Adobe Reader at: http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

Third Party Compatibility This section describes third party compatibility.

Fonts Additional typefaces for Avid Motion Graphics can be obtained at www.fonts.com.

KVM Extender Avid recommends that you connect the Keyboard, Mouse and VGA directly to the AMG system prior to connecting a KVM extender. We currently do not have a qualified Avocent® KVM extender.

Excel 2010 64bit Excel data integration with Avid Motion Graphics requires Microsoft Excel 2010 64bit version. If it’s 32bit or an older version, Avid Motion Graphics won’t be able to link to the data. Installation Information This section contains information on installing Avid Motion Graphics software, tools and plugins. It also discusses reimaging your AMG server, and upgrading your AMG software.

Installing Avid Motion Graphics Software Avid Motion Graphics version 2.6 and later software will install over version 2.0.

Applications/ Modes The following application and / or modes have been added since the last release.

AMG GPI Service Tool In AMG version 2.6, we support GPI. It is now possible to manage the rundown using GPI signals.

The GPI support is provided by a Windows service designed to work with the following Sealevel SeaIO GPI cards:

• Sealevel SeaIO GPI card (Model BD8004)

• Sealevel SeaIO GPI card (Model 8012.)

Note: This card must be purchased separately. Avid does not supply this card.

Once you purchase the card, you need to install the Sealevel SeaIO GPI card in the Avid Motion Graphics Playout chassis or any server that has network access.

Note: The GPI card does not need to be installed in the AMG chassis. It can also be installed in any server that has room for the card.

The service listens for the button pushes on the GPI card, and then sends the appropriate command to the AMG playout application that the service is configured for.

For information on how to install the GPI card in the chassis, see the topic “Installing GPI Functionality in Your AMG Server” in Chapter 9 of the Avid Motion Graphics Setup Guide. Access the Avid Motion Graphics GPI Configuration tool as follows: From the that has the GPI service installed, select Start > All Programs > Avid > Avid Motion Graphics > AMG GPI Configuration.

User Interface and General Behavioral Changes The following user interface and general behavioral features have been added since the last release.

Glyph Shaping We now have compatibility with languages that have complex script types.

Vertical Typewriting We have added the ability to have text display vertically.

Ability to Double-click in AMG User Interface to Multi-select Objects We have added the ability to assign materials, textures and fonts to multiple selected objects by double- clicking on library items.

Multiple Selection with Drag and Drop If you have multiple objects selected, you can now drag and drop a material or textures from the library to one of them and it will no longer be applied to all. It will only apply to the one you drag it on. Form Icons A new Form Icons tab has been added to AMG user interface that allows you to change the appearance of the Replaceable Field's in AMG, as well as in Playout applications, such as AMG Control. This functionality allows you to separate replaceable fields into logical groups. It also provides a more manageable way to view the groups and edit information such as Tab view, the Rollout - dropdown box, and Frame view.

Timeline The Autofit option has been improved by adding the corresponding checkbox in the Key right-click menu and providing the automatic adjustment of transitions. We also added the ability to create overlapped transitions.

Composition Thumbnails If composition thumbnails are not created by user, they will be created automatically on saving the project.

2D Mode We have added a 2D view with fixed camera and no perspective. This is a project setting.

Text: Full Justification We have added the ability to fully left justify text.

Text on a Path We have added Text on a path, which is an effect that allows you to move text along a curved path.

Text Width We have added the ability to change the text width. The Text Width slider stretches the text in the X axis.

Preset Highlight We have added the ability to highlight the preset that is applied to an object.

Custom Timeline We have added the ability to create additional timelines from the Production tab, and view them with Animation\Custom tab. You can now drag the Play button to the Form tab and control custom animations from AMG Control.

Avoid Deletion of Referenced Items Global items such as Lights, Data maps and Font fix do not have a “Delete Unused Items” menu in the InUse tab.

Unicode Font Subsets We have added the ability to choose font subsets for non-Latin languages, to reduce amount of loaded chars in heavy fonts.

Default Font Default font is not hidden anymore. All new texts get created with the Default font. In Preferences, you can set up a font for Library fonts.

Note: This setting does not affect the Default font.

If you want to export/publish the composition with a font which has a non-default font family, you should create a new font and replace it with a default font for Text objects.

Note: The default font family is Arial.

Dark User Interface Skin The Dark user interface skin has been improved. Software Fixes for AMG Control v1.2.1 The following software fixes are available with the AMG Control v1.2.1 release:

6517: Compositions With a Period in Their Name No Longer Show Error on Load The issue that occurred in Playout, when connecting AMG Control, causing compositions with a dot (.) in their name to show an error has been fixed.

6525: AMG Control - Edit Preview Window Form No Longer Changes After Saving/Recalling a Playlist Previously, after a Playlist was saved or recalled, the graphic for multiple bullet items in "Scriptures" changes and became displayed in a long line of text, instead of individual lines, making it difficult to edit. This issue has been fixed so that the graphic is now displayed in individual lines, no longer making it difficult to edit. Also, when the graphic goes to Program, it is no longer difficult to align the replaceable text on left hand column after being saved.

6519: Quote in Replaceable Text No Longer Gets Repeated at End of Text Previously, when using Replaceable text layers with single or double quote characters such as ‘ or “ got repeated at the end of the text has been fixed. Previously, after the Playlist had been saved and recalled, AMG Control would automatically insert a ‘ or “ at the end of the line of text. The extra quote is no longer inserted at the end of the text. AMG Control Features Version 1.2 The following AMG Control features were added in this release (v1.2):

Preview/Program The new Edit area allows live preview while editing the template. User can update information in Preview or Program if needed.

Rundown Enhancements Preview template if hover mouse cursor over the template in rundown.

New User Interface Layout In this release, we made some changes to the AMG Control user interface, including the following:

• Added new fonts, colors, and tab sizes.

• Changed the location where tabs are created. To modernize the layout, each new tab is created at the top of the user interface.

• Ability to display more pages in the rundown.

• Added a FastEdit section, that enables you to more quickly change values and apply new data to the template, preview a template with new data, and update the template that is On-Air with new data via the Update button.

Snap in Preview without Flicker We have eliminated the flicker that occurred on the HDMI output (PGR or PRW) while changing a graphic on a PRW (Preview) channel or when generating a snapshot.

Tab Reorder Avid Motion Graphics Control and Avid Advanced Device Manager (ADM) contain an Automation Fields Order feature (also known as Tab Reorder feature), which simplifies the procedure of filling replaceable fields for MetaTemplates containing an automation workflow.

This means, when you have a MetaTemplate with many replaceable fields of different types, the replaceable fields are originally ordered in the way the artist created them. The order was established when the artist created the templates. However, after creating a MetaTemplate in Avid Motion Graphics Control, you can order them in a way that is most convenient for your workflow.

You can now right-click a quick template to display the Automation Fields Order menu. This menu allows you to reorder replaceable fields. The order is saved with the quick template. It does not rewrite the original template order. This is for convenient work with automation tools.

To reorder the replaceable fields: 1. Right-click on the MetaTemplate icon in the Quicks section of Avid Motion Graphics Control. A menu displays.

2. Select the Automation Fields Order option from the menu.

The Automation Fields Order window opens displaying a list of replaceable fields and their type, as shown in the following illustration.

3. Click on a field then drag and drop to change the order of the fields to suite your workflow order. 4. Click the Ok button 5. Save the MetaTemplate.

Note: This process does not rewrite the original template order.

Now, when using the saved MetaTemplate, you can fill the replaceable fields according to the new order. The Avid Advanced Device Manager (ADM) understands the new order, and plays it correctly in Program and Preview.

Color Picker A Color picker has been added. In previous releases, we operated only with RGB values.

Help Menu We have added an Online Help link that can be accessed by clicking the Help button next to Settings in the main window. The Online Help will open directly to the AMG Control main topic.

GPI Support AMG Control now supports GPI. It is in the AMG Control application where you set up the connection to the GPI port.

Once the GPI port is configured, you must set it up in the AMG Control application.

1. Open AMG Control application, and click on the Settings icon (upper right of AMG Control)

2. Click Miscellaneous Tab.

3. Set the port. In this example we are using 5130.

4. In the GPIs section, click the Enabled check box, and click OK.

Result: If AMG Control is able to connect, the GPI icon will turn green. If it cannot connect, the port will turn gray.

AMG News Control Features The following AMG News Control features are included in this release:

Color Picker A Color picker has been added. In previous releases, we operated only with RGB values.

GPI Support AMG News Control now supports GPI. There is no configuration in the AMG News Control application.

Note: AMG News Control will listen for the GPI service commands on Port 5127.

Make sure you configure the GPI port in the Avid Motion Graphics GPI Configuration Tool for port 5127.

Snap in Preview without Flicker We have eliminated the flicker that occurred on the HDMI output (PGR or PRW) while changing a graphic on a PRW (Preview) channel or when generating a snapshot. Hardware and Software Changes

The following hardware and software changes were made since the last release.

Hardware Changes for Avid Motion Graphics v2.6 The following hardware changes were made in Avid Motion Graphics v2.6.

Driver Update Window Added Drivers and firmware should be updated first before proceeding with AMG v2.6 upgrade.

Known Limitations This section provides information on known limitations that were not addressed in this release. Any available workaround procedures are also documented, when possible.

Note: For limitations related to compatibility of this release with previous versions/other products, see the section of this document entitled, Compatibility Notes.

The following known limitations exist in this version:

Projects Saved in AMG v2.6 Not Compatible with Previous Versions Projects saved in version 2.6 will not be compatible with previous versions. If you go back to AMG Version 2.5.x, you might be able to read the project, but you will lose any preferences that were saved with the project.

6501: Ctrl+Z Does Not Work Properly After Creating an Object Clone Pressing Ctrl+Z after Ctrl+F while an Object is selected in Object tab causes the created clone to remain with a strange crossed zero icon.

6503: Changing Values for TileFrames Does Not Work Changing value for TileFrames in the Texture tab, does not work.

6494: Some RSS Feeds Do Not Work as Bind Sources in AMG Columns Some columns in an RSS table cannot be used as Bind sources.

Workaround: save RSS to csv and use the .csv file.

6032: Cannot Open Unicode Named Projects by Double-Clicking Unicode-named projects cannot be opened by double-clicking on the project .ldr file.

Workaround: Start AMG, and open the Project from inside AMG.

6429: FontFix Applied to a Shared Font Not Visible in Duplicated Composition Applying FontFix to shared fonts causes that effect to disappear in duplicated compositions. The Effect itself needs to be set to “Shared” in this case.

6439: Removing a Sequence of an Image from File List Takes a Long Time Removing a sequence of an image from the File list takes a long time. For comparison, deleting a TextSequence (independent from length of image sequence takes only 1 to 2 seconds), while deleting this sequence of images from the TextureSequence File List, takes minutes.

Workaround: Remove the whole object, delete the TexSequence, and create new one.

6376: AMG Project Compositions Cannot Have “&” in the Name If "&" is present in the name of AMG project compositions, they cannot be dropped into an iNews rundown.

6148: Handles on Animation Curves Exceed the Margin of the Curve Viewer On "narrow" transitions points, handles are not accessible for animators, because they are placed outside of curve viewer, as shown in the following illustration:

The handle's size should be adjusted to transition width and accessible to the animator, as shown on the following illustration:

Workaround: Create new point on the Animation curve, close to the out-of-boundaries handle. The size of this handle will be auto-adjusted to match the width of curve viewer.

6200: Selecting a Font from the File Loader Window Does Not Work In Preferences\Project\Text, when you click on the font name for the Default font in the File Loader window, and click OK, the 'C:\Windows\fonts\' address appears, instead of the font name.

For an example, see the following illustration:

Workaround: Double-click to select the font.

5676: Text Formatting is Sometimes Lost when Binding Data When binding data to a text field, even though it is still selected, the text can lose formatting (e.g., Bold, Italics, Underline, and Flashing Bold, etc.). When binding data to a text object and selecting “Bold, Italics, Underline, or Flashing”, you need to ensure font styles are set for each of these within the font object assigned to the text object.

5368: Copy-Paste for Several Keyframes Not Working Correct on Timeline When selecting and copying multiple keyframes (more than two) from multiple objects on the timeline, and pasting them onto another location on timeline, only two keyframes for two objects on timeline are pasted, even though more than two keyframes and objects were selected and pasted.

5946: Python Control Buttons Removed From Python Window The Control buttons were removed from the Python window, but, now we have a more flexible context menu, which you open by clicking RMB. This allows to evaluate all code, or just selected lines of code. Also, a shortcut was added ‘Ctrl+Enter’ which evaluates code in the Python window.

4685: Binding Cells in Curves Data Tab and Applying Equidistance Creates Loop When binding cells in the Curves data tab, and then switching to Equidistance, the object starts to increase indefinitely. Don't apply equidistance for a column with a bind in it. It will create an infinite loop.

5836: AMG has Low Performance With M-Audio Sound Card Interfaces Using M-Audio sound cards (M-Audio Fast Track MK2 and M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8R) with AMG, results in low performance in AMG. This is especially noticeable when working with viewports and creating objects. 5604: Python Tab Sometime Appears Grayed Out Sometimes, when called with shortcut Shift+Ctrl+Y, the Python window appears grayed out. Workaround: Close the grayed out tab, and try it again.

4218: Video Out Not Playing Correctly if VideoIn is Different Format If you have an NTSC VideoIn signal, but the Video Out is 59.94, the VideoOut signal is corrupt.

Note: The VideoIn signal must match the VideoOut format. Otherwise, this could result in the Video Out not playing correctly.

4861: AMG is Sensitive to Excel's Cell Format Type If an Excel Column is set to general, and there is mixed data in the column, cells with text in them might not appear. This is an issue with the Microsoft Excel driver.

Workaround: In a column where there will be both numbers and text, store the data as text.

4627: Checking XYZ Equidistance Checkboxes for Ring and Strap Makes Them Look Corrupted When we enable XYZ Equidistance checkboxes for Ring or Strap, the objects look corrupted. This is a limitation of these objects, and cannot be fixed.

5712: Clock and Counter Text Object Not Visible in Viewport When You Create It If you create Clock or Counter by double-clicking on a library item or dragging it to the viewport, the object will be created, and you will see it in Objects tab, but not in viewport. To make it visible, go to the object’s parameters, and set the Scale value bigger (it is set to 1 by default).

5292: Unexpected Keyframe Creates from Viewport If you try to create a keyframe on the timeline by hovering the mouse cursor over an unselected object in the viewport and dragging it with MMB to the timeline, you will get an unexpected keyframe, which is related to material. If you want to create a keyframe for Matrix parameters by dragging it from viewport, make sure the object is selected.

5170: Clip Starts Playing Automatically When Scrub at End When playing a clip to the end, and then scrubbing using the Goto slider, the clip will start playing automatically. This apears ot be an issue for ALL media types..

5018: In AMG Creation, Sound Files (mp3, wav, m4a and other) Might Play With Crackling Sound files might play with crackling, depending on the sound card you use.

AMG Control Issues Some known limitations exist for AMG Control with this version of Avid Motion Graphics.

6505: Cannot See Unicode-named Replaceable Fields in AMG Control When Locale Not in English Replaceable fields which were named using Unicode characters will not be seen with AMG Control if the 'System locale' setting of the machine with AMG Control is set to other than English.

Workaround: In the system running AMG Control, set your “System Locale” setting to English.

6504: Minimize AMG Control and Restore with Maximize Button Does Not Refresh Preview Window Minimizing the AMG Control window to half size and then restoring it using the Maximize button does not refresh the preview to the full size.

Workaround: When resizing the AMG Control application, do not use the Minimize/Maximize buttons. Manually drag the window to the desired size.

6491: Playing Brother Animations Does Not Occur When One Template is in Folder Section Brother relationships for composition get ignored, if one composition is in the Rundown section and another is in the Folder section.

Workaround: For playing animation from brother IN/OUT timelines, do one of the following:

• Store brother-templates in the same type of sections (both Rundown, both Fixed Rundown, or both Folder).

• Make sure one of the brothers is in a Fixed Rundown.

6484: Mouse Wheel Not Working in Folder Section When there is a list of templates in the Folder section, a scroll bar or slider appears. However, using the Mouse Wheel to scroll through the list does not work.

Workaround: Instead of using the Mouse Wheel, drag the scroll bar or slider to manipulate the work area in the Folder section.

6483: Group of Icons (Rollout) Not Opening When Clicking Open/Close Arrow in Group Title A composition which has a Rollout Icon (group of several replaceable fields) does not open or close the group when clicking on the arrow at the right (red square).

Workaround: Clicking on the group title (green square) will work.

6461: Edit Window Has Display Refresh Issue When resizing the Edit Window in order to be able to see both AMG Creation and AMG Control side by side on the same monitor, there is a refresh issue that happens when returning to full screen mode where the Edit Window appears cut off and cannot be resized to view the full graphic.

Workaround: Move to another line in the rundown, and then back to refresh the Edit Window.

6365: Visual Artifacts in AMG Control When Windows Display Text is Scaled to Non-Default Value There are some visual artifacts on the AMG Control user interface when using non-default display settings.

If the value of “Make text or other items larger or smaller” is the default 100%, AMG Control will look correct.

If you use 125% or 150%, there will be artifacts. This setting can be found in Control Panel > Appearance & Personalization > Display > Make text or other items larger or smaller.

6448: Reconnecting a Render Makes AMG Load all Quicks Even if Not Related to the Render If a render gets disconnected, and then you reload the project in AMG and then reconnect render in AMG Control, all templates will be loaded on that particular AMG, no matter if they were assigned to that render or not. 6379: Question Marks Instead of Unicode Characters in Tooltips Popping-up from Quicks In tooltips, instead of Unicode characters, there are Question marks (?) displaying from quicks.

6371: Thumbnails are Replaced with Default Ones After Loading Project User-created thumbnails are replaced by default thumbnails after reloading the AMG Control project. User- created thumbnails are temporary and are not saved to disk.

6368: Size of Preview Image in Edit Section Not Adjustable The preview image is updated automatically when a snapshot is requested from the chassis. You can resize it by changing the size of the full AMG Control window. It does not change size when you drag the horizontal and vertical bars that surround the preview image.

6190: File Selector for Media File Does Not Show the Name of Applied Media File The Media File Selector button shows three dots, instead of the name of the applied media file.

Workaround: Hover the cursor on the Media File Selector button, and wait until the tooltip appears.

5319: Changing Settings Causes AMG Control Application to Restart Some changes in Settings require a restart of AMG Control. You will receive a message stating “Restart needed to apply some changes”.

However, if you change settings by mistake and press OK, there is no method to cancel the restart.

6037: Rundown is Empty if Templates Path is Wrong When an AMG Control Project is Loaded If the Templates path is not configured properly, and you load an AMG Control project, the rundown will be empty with no warning or error message.

5647: Wrong Characters Displayed in Playout for Single llsttring Cell If you drop a single cell of llstring on the Form tab, then in AMG Control, assign a value for the cell and send the composition to Playout, the text will appear enclosed in square brackets.

5652: Saving Projects While Interrupting Playout and Switching to Edit Mode Corrupts the Project Saving a project, while interrupting Playout and then switching to Edit mode, can corrupt the project.

5174: Fonts Selected in Replaceable Field Are Not Applied to Text When Family Editor is Applied Fonts that are selected and applied in the Replaceable field do not get applied to the text if the font family editor has been applied. Use the regular input field instead.

5354: All Quicks in a Project are Saved When One Section is Saved When there is more than one section in an AMG Control project, all the quicks in the project get saved to that section. When you reopen that section, all the quicks will be loaded onto the AMG server.

5375: Cannot Set the Composition Duration According to the Duration Set in AMG There is no way to check animation duration in AMG Control. Furthermore, if durations set in AMG Control differ compared to those on AMG's timeline, the animation can be interrupted before it ends, and can impact Playout consistency.

5457: AMG Control Takes a Long Time to Start Up if the Template Path Contains Many Projects AMG Control takes a long time to start up if the Template path is set to a folder with a large amount of projects. For example, a folder containing 16 projects, could take 20 seconds to load.

5493: Cannot Move AMG Control When in Full Screen Mode Opening AMG Control in full screen mode on one monitor and then trying to drag it to a second monitor does not work.

Workaround: In order to move AMG Control to another monitor, make sure it is in “Windowed” mode. AMG Creation on MAC Issues Some known limitations exist for AMG Creation on Mac software with this version of Avid Motion Graphics.

AMG Creation on Mac Does Not Have External Control from AMG Control AMG Creation on Mac will have no external control capabilities from AMG Control.

6500: AMG Not Re-started After Sleep Mode on Mac On some Mac systems, when your Mac computer goes into “Sleep mode”, and the AMG Creation on Mac application is closed, it cannot be restarted again. You would need to restart the Mac to work in AMG again. We suggest that you set your Mac to not go into Sleep mode when running AMG creation.

6478: Textures for Examples Material Library is Broken When using materials that use the Bump Effect, the "Compute tangents" toggle should be checked. On AMG Creation on MAC, failure to do this will result in the material displaying as black.

6339: Broken Moon Example (Black Object) When creating a moon example on AMG Creation on Mac, you will get a black sphere with glow only.

5701: Need Magic Mouse Button Substitute for Making Binds on a Mac Apple's Magic Mouse does not have a middle button. Windows laptop touchpads often do not have it as well. AMG Creation does not currently have a substitute for the Magic Mouse button to be able to make binds by dragging (not just by copying and pasting the binds).

5670: Excel Update Button Does Not Load the Data from Assigned Excel File The Excel Data map does not load data from complex Excel datasheets. That is a 3rd party limitation of “Actual ” ODBC Drivers.

Workaround: If you use a sheet with simple data, and move it to the first place in the Excel tabs, you will access that data correctly.

NVIDIA Control Panel Settings Issue In the Manage 3D Settings section of the NVIDIA Control Panel, the Global Presets setting should be switched to “Workstation App – Dynamic Streaming”. If this is not changed, poor rendering performance may occur in Playout mode.

Output Fit Function Not Functional The Output Fit function (adaptation of the project’s video format to the format of the video output, if those formats are different) is not functional in this release. Therefore the Output Fit setting should always be set to Anamorphic, and the Video Format setting in AMG Preferences must always correspond to the video format that is set in the Video Setup.

Video In Function on Dual Channel Servers Setup Restriction If the Video In function is used on a dual-channel AMG server, both channels of AMG should have the same video format set in their Video Setup configurations.

Deko Player Preview Not Available DekoPlayer preview is not available in either the NewsRoom Controller or iNEWS Command workflows. Please verify the data using the Preview tools available in each of those applications.

Compositions with Deko Player Objects Sometimes Timeout Compositions containing DekoPlayer Objects that use Deko Clips sometimes timeout on Preview in News workflows, and do not return the correct Preview.

Workaround: Request the Preview again. Reduced Performance in Edit Mode AMG has reduced performance in Edit compared to Playout mode. To increase the performance in Edit mode, you must change the Preference of the Program Viewport from Continuous to OnFocus. This means that you will no longer get Video Output while in Edit mode.

Photoshop Exporter In Photoshop Exporter, all Photoshop layers must have a unique name in the layers list for correct exporting to AMG. The same rule also applies to groups of layers.

3DStudio Exporter In 3DStudio Exporter, when you try to export any shape object with enabled "renderable" switch-boxes, you do not get any corresponding object in the AMG project.

Workaround: Convert selected shape object to Editable Mesh or Poly.

Projects with Flares: The following limitations apply when using projects with flares:

• If a project is corrupted because of a flare reference to an instance, then the cleanup process will fix the crossed references issue and reassign the flare textures to the original dbs.

• If the project has already lost the flare textures, then the cleanup process will just fix the references but won´t be able to recover the flare textures, so you will need to create your flare object again. However, the crossed references will be fixed.

• The cleanup process will also fix other instance corruption issues.

Sinusoidal and Fractal Effect are Disabled Sinusoidal and Fractal effect are disabled for all objects, except Surface objects.

Excel Limitation In order to use Excel spreadsheets with AMG, you need to install Microsoft Excel 2010 64-bit version or install ODBC Drivers from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255

Custom Library Object Creation Limitation If a custom library object is created by dragging, its transformation type will get reset to Basic. If you create the object by double-clicking on it, it will be created correctly.

Cannot Disable Spell Check Spell Check is enabled by default, but it is shown as disabled in Preferences. If you want to disable Spell Check, you should do the following: 1. Enable Spell Check. 2. Save Preferences. 3. Disable Spell Check again. 4. Save Preferences again. Red underlining will be gone as soon as you update text in the text field.

Note: Spell check right-click options will still work.

Excel Data Not Loading When Using Un-Supported Characters Excel data will not load the range correctly if the Excel worksheet name has either of the following characters: ! or # (exclamation point or pound symbol).

Workaround: To work around this issue, do the following:

1. Remove or replace these characters with an allowed character in the worksheet name.

Allowed characters include (-=+"@$%^&).

2. After you make the change, be sure to save the file.

3. Next, in AMG change the Excel range to the corrected worksheet name and save the project.

4. Close AMG and start it again.

5. Open the saved project and specify an Excel file again from the previous location (not from the asset folder).

6. Press the Update button.

Mouse Pointer Trail Effects General performance problems with Avid Motion Graphics usage when setting a mouse pointer trail effect in Windows.

Workaround: Disable any mouse pointer trail effects within Windows.

File Open Dialog Box On the File Open Dialog box, when a file is selected using the drop-down box for recently used files, the fields containing information related to the graphic file (Comments, Video Format, Image Properties) do not update dynamically.

Workaround: If the user needs access to the file information, select the file using the file name menu, which is the pane in the open dialog box that contains the list of file names.

File Navigation Windows in Avid Motion Graphics When using the file navigation windows in Avid Motion Graphics, the scroll bar does not always reset to the top of the directory listing.

Workaround: If you don’t see the expected files, move the scroll bar to the top.

VideoIn Preview The Avid Motion Graphics Server v2.5 does not support the Preview for VideoIn. VideoIn is now displayed in the Program View.

HD Output Stops Playing When connecting an SD input while playing out in HD, the HD output stops playing.

Workaround: Ensure the input signal is the same as the intended output.

Files Missing a Component When you open a file with a missing component, you are prompted to browse for the missing component. After browsing to the folder which contains this missing component, the file isn't highlighted and displayed in the file list screen by default.

Workaround: You may need to use the vertical scroll bar to find the missing component.

Changing Spell Check Language To change the spell check language in Avid Motion Graphics v2.5, you must run Avid Motion Graphics as an Administrator.

Workaround: When prompted, log on as an Avid Motion Graphics Administrator to be able to change the spell check language. Oversize XMP Files Large XMP files may cause Avid Motion Graphics to be non-responsive.

Workaround: XMP files are meant for icons or smaller graphics. Large XMP files can cause issues with many different applications and shouldn't be used.

Avid Motion Graphics Creation Trial License When using the Avid Motion Graphics Creation trial version, some files will be saved. When you uninstall the unlicensed version of Avid Motion Graphics, not all associated files will be deleted.

Workaround: Manually delete the remaining files after un-installing.

VideoIn and Video Out Must Match VideoIn signal must match the VideoOut format otherwise the Video Out may not play correctly. Currently, there is no workaround for this issue.

Excel Data Not Loading First Few Rows of Excel File Excel Data does not load the first row of an Excel file (.xls).

Workaround: When creating an .xls file for use with Excel Data, leave the first row of the file blank.

Common Assets on a Local Path When using assets from the Common Asset path, the assets will not appear on the object if the user shares the assets locally.

Workaround: Copy the assets to a local path.

Clip Capture Clip Capture is not supported in this version of Avid Motion Graphics. Currently, there is no workaround for this.

DekoPlayer Video Input is not supported directly by DekoPlayer. To incorporate Video Input into your composition, use the Video Input feature of Avid Motion Graphics.

Previewing DekoPlayer Objects with AMG Journalist Plug-in is Not Supported The Preview Renderer, which renders the previews and movies for the AMG Journalist client, does not currently support DekoPlayer objects. If a the Preview Renderer receives a request to process a DekoPlayer object, the user will either see black space where the DekoPlayer object is in the composition, or a continual “Previewing” message. In this case, close the Preview window of the plug- in and reopen it to modify any replaceable data or images.

Deko File Types Deko Translator is only designed to translate the basic elements of a DKO file. It does not translate any of the following files or any of the features contained in those files: Deko Effects (efx), Motions (.mot), Sequences (.seq), Macros (.mcr), Costom Typfaces (.fac), Styles (.sty), Shaders (.shd), Presets (.pst), Clocks (.clk), Automation (.amt), Automation (aut, and .atx), Deko3D (.d3d), DekoObjex (.dkc and .dkx) and all other files not specifically listed above.

Field Markers Are Wrong Size Field Markers are the wrong size after effect (or sequence) playback. Currently, there is no workaround for this. No Preview Frame Available for Import Cannot preview the first or middle or end frame of VBS and M2V files in the import clip window on HD video format. Currently, there is no workaround for this.

Key Offset The key offset functionality in the Clip Edit window isn't supported in this version of the Avid Motion Graphics application.

Timecode Button Off One Frame Intermittently, when the user sets a Mark In point, the Timecode button is off by one (1) frame.

Workaround: After marking the Mark In point and seeing this issue, use the Advance or Back 1 Frame buttons to correct the issue.

Supported Audio Bit Rate This version only supports 16 bit Audio. If a user hears noise or a lack of audio all together, the bit rate used might be incorrect.

Workaround: Ensure the audio used is 16 bit.

Channel Designation The Avid Motion Graphics Server is a single channel configuration. If something comes into a sequence with a Channel B designation, it is played on Channel A because this system is only a single channel configuration.

Integrating with iNEWS Command When integrating with iNEWS Command, you should only change the graphic title if the item is a library graphic. Otherwise, it should not be changed. Technical Support Information
