Pitted keratolysis is easily identified by its shallow, crater-like pits. Collection of specimen using swab may be helpful to identify causative bacteria and skin scraping is often taken to exclude fungal infection. The diagnosis is sometimes made by skin biopsy revealing characteristic histopathological feature of Pitted Keratolysis. Treatment generally consists of hygienic measures, sometimes supplemented by medication and perhaps on oral medication. This review is aimed to consolidate present information about aetiopathogenesis, diagnosis and management of Pitted Keratolysis. It is worth mentioning that Pitted Keratolysis is non-contagious. BACTERIAL SKIN INFECTIONS SPEAKER: DR LUIZ ALBERTO BOMJARDIM PÔRTO DERMATOLOGIST BRAZIL MRSA INFECTIONS • Concept: Methicillin- resistant Staphylococcus aureus • Epidemiology: Gradual increase of resistance. • Nosocomial MRSA risk factors: Hospitalization, ICU, invasive procedures, previous antibiotic therapy, health professionals, diabetes mellitus, EV drugs, immunosuppression and chronic diseases. MRSA INFECTIONS • Community MARSA risk factors: Children, EV drugs, indigenous, homosexual men, military, prisoners and athletes. • Microorganisms more virulent by genetic characteristics. MRSA INFECTIONS • Clinic caracteristics: -Abscess, cellulitis, folliculitis, impetigo, infected wounds, external otitis, paronychia and colonization of the skin in cases of atopic dermatitis. - Increased morbidity. • Propedeutics: Culture blood, tissue or secretion. MRSA INFECTIONS • Treatment: - Pathology-specific treatment. - Prefer non-beta-lactam antibiotics, such as: clindamycin, sulfamethoxazole- trimethoprim and tetracyclines. - On suspicion of MARSA infection, start empirical antibiotics and stagger specific antibiotics by culture with antibiograma. Tinea pedis is a very common fungal infection that affects a significantly large number of people globally. The presentation of tinea pedis can vary based on the different clinical forms of the condition. The symptoms of tinea pedis may range from asymptomatic, to mild- to-severe forms of pain, itchiness, difficulty walking and other debilitating symptoms. There is a range of precautionary measures available to prevent infection, and both oral and topical drugs can be used for treating tinea pedis.
