he Raksha Mantri, Smt Nirmala TSitharaman, visited the Kashmir Valley on September 2, 2018 to review the prevailing security situation. The Raksha Mantri accompanied by the COAS, General Bipin Rawat was received by Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, Northern Army Commander and Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Chinar Corps Commander. The Raksha

Mantri visited the forward areas in the frontier district of Kupwara where she was briefed by the Commanders on ground as regards the operational preparedness and counter infiltration grid. ndian Coast Guard Ship Vijaya, the Isecond in the series of 98 meter Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) was commissioned at Chennai by Defence Secretary Shri Sanjay Mitra on September 14, 2018 in the presence of Director General Rajendra Singh, Director General Indian Coast Guard and senior dignitaries of the central and state government. ‘Vijaya’ meaning ‘Victorious in every endeavour’ is a projection of Indian Coast Guard’s will and commitment ‘To Serve and Protect’ the maritime interest of the nation. September 16-30, 2018 Sainik Samachar 41 PHOTOCALL hree young sailors of the Indian Navy, Akash ME TI, Dhananjay SEA I and Vishwakarma ME I, were instrumental in rescuing a man who had fallen into the sea off Marine Drive on the night of September 9, 2018. The sailors were visiting Marine Drive when they noticed people gathered at a spot nearby. On reaching the spot, they observed a man drowning about 150 m into the sea. Akash, a Ship's Diver, Dhananjay, a good swimmer, and Vishwakarma, a Marine Commando, immediately jumped into the water and swam out towards the drowning man and brought him to safety. Their selfless and prompt act of bravery is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Indian Navy.
