HISTORIA, NOMENCLATURA Y CLASifICACIÓN DE SITONINI. 1.1. Desarrollo histórico En este apartado se expone la historia de la descripción y clasificación de las especies de la tribu Sitonini. Es una referencia histórica para comprender mejor la clasificación actual. Se ha dividido en tres secciones, correspondientes cada una a un siglo. Siglo XVIII: El punto de partida obligado es la décima edición de la obra de LII4NAEUS, Systema Na/urae. en 1758. De entre las 86 especies de Curculionoidea descritas por él, se encuentra sólo una especie de Sitona, £ lineatus, descrita, como la mayoría de Curculiónidos, bajo el género Curculio. Durante el resto del siglo se describieron otras 22 especies, todas igualmente dentro del género Curculio, de las cuales sólo ocho se aceptan hoy día como válidas. El gran entomólogo FABRICIUS es autor de tres: 8. griseus (F., 1775), 8. hispidulus (E., 1776) y 8. gressor¡us (F., 1792). Siglo XIX: Durante la primera mitad del siglo XIX se describe un gran número de especies, y ya no son solamente europeas, sino también africanas, asiáticas y amencanas. A principios de siglo GERMAR (1817) crea el género Sitona, con la indicación “46. Sitona nob. Curc. gressorius, lineatus, hispidulus”, si bien poco después (1824) este autor ofrece una descripción del género e incluye en él diez especies. La especie tipo, Curculio lineatus L., 1758 había sido anteriormente propuesta por SCHONI-IERR (1823). Este último autor describe en 1826 el subgénero Charagmus, si bien este detalle pasará inadvertido durante más de un siglo. SCHONI-IERR publica además entre 1833 y 1847 una obra de trascendental importancia en sistemática de Curculionoidea, Genera et species Curculionidum, en cuyo segundo volumen, (1834) además de incluir una docena de nuevas descripciones de Sitona por parte de su colaborador Gyllenhal, describe un nuevo género de Sitonini, Eugnathus Schónherr (fig. lb), para incluir la única especie conocida hasta entonces, E. virídianus Uyll., 1834. El sexto volumen (SCHONIIERR, 1840), merece especial atención. En él se describen otros dos géneros de Sitonirxi: Ceerqetes (fig. la) y Catachaenus, y además la especie Tanymecusplan 4lrons Fáhraeus para la que más adelante, DESBROCHERS (1871) creará el género Sehelopius (fig. le). 9 Introducción Sin embargo SCJ-IÓNHERR no sitúa ninguno de estos tres géneros junto al género Sitona.

This is related to its great cul- tural significance, since the ancient Greeks considered this mountain as the habitat of their Gods, ever since Zeus became the dominant figure of the ancient Greek re- ligion and consequently the protagonist of the cultural regime. Before the genera- tion of Zeus, Olympus was inhabited by the generation of Cronus. In this paper we shall refer to a lesser known mythological reference which, in our opinion, presents similarities to the geotectonic evolution of the wider area of Olympus. According to Apollodorus and other great authors, the God Poseidon and Iphimedia had twin sons, the Aloades, namely Otus and Ephialtes, who showed a tendency to gigantism. When they reached the age of nine, they were about 16 m. tall and 4.5 m. wide.

A list of the species and other taxa of the Greek flora which, in my opinion, require protection is annexed to this report. ln order to explain the comparatively great number of plants which appear in this list, 1 would mention that the flora of this country is one of the richest of Europe. containing about 6,000 taxa, a number consid� erably larger than that of France, Belgium and Switzerland put together, in spite of the fact that the total expanse of these countries is more than six times that of Greece. ln addition, as mentioned below, this country has a very large number of endemics, in fact, in proportion to her size, Greece has more endemics than any other European country. Original work is presentedon coleopteranfaunas, mainly from medieval pits, recovered and analysed from sites in Winchester, Southampton and Chichester. The faunas resemble those recovered from deposits of similar provenancefrom other sites. They also contain the earliest records of some species in Britain and the earliest medieval occurrencesof others which, were common in Roman Britain, but missing from the Saxonurban record. A modem analogue of a medieval cesspit was set up in order to investigate the coleopteranfaunas, which develop in that environment. Further experimental work was carried out using a choice chamber, to determine the preferred pabulum of certain speciesofAphodius dung beetles. The findings are placed in a wider context as a representative sample of all work, carried out on Roman and post-Roman coleopteran thanatocoenoses,were included in the following investigations. Methods of standardising data from different sourcesare discussed. The distribution of synanthropic species through time was studied, with special emphasis on Tipnus unicolor and Cryptolestesferrugineus.

During the years 2014-2015, a faunistic study on superfamily Curculionoidea was done in Taleghan Region. This region is located on the southern slope of the Alborz Mountains and irrigated by several rivers. Taleghan Region is known mainly for its green landscape which is covered mostly by rangelands, grasslands, but also agricultural farms and fruit gardens. Recently, several human activities have shaped into the Taleghan landscapes and then it resulted in a dramatic reduction of vegetation. In our study a total of 51 species of weevils were confirmed for this region and 10 of them (Hemitrichapion pavidum (Germar, 1817), Protapion laevicolle (Kirby, 1811), Pseudoprotapion elegantulum (Germar, 1818), P. astragali astragali (Paykull, 1800), Mecinus labilis (Herbst, 1795), Mogulones asperifoliarum (Gyllenhal, 1813), Tychius astragali Becker, 1862, T. callidus Caldara, 1990, T. tridentinus Penecke, 1922, and T. trivialis Boheman, 1843) have been recorded in Iran for the first time. In addition, a brief discussion is given for several species considered as rare weevils or interesting records for Iranian fauna.

Murgatroyd Pindar Pythian I Abstract This article concerns the ancient Greek lyric poet Pindar (approximately 518 to 438 B.C.), specifically his first Pythian Ode, and my primary purpose is to supply a new translation of the poem (together with résumé and running commentary for illumination and elaboration), thereby introducing Pindar, the nature of his composition and certain features of his style to the non-specialist. In my transla­ tion, which is based on the Greek text of Snell & Maehler (1984), I aim above all at accuracy, purity and clarity, and I try to convey to the reader a real idea of the feel and texture of the poem by means of a version which is faithful to the spirit and not just the letter of the Greek. In the essay I provide a résumé, explain the background to the piece, discuss its implications and focus, and treat its major poetic features, such as diction, metre, sound, imagery and structure.
