LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the Blues will participate in the 2016 NHL Prospects Tournament from Sept. 16-20 in Traverse City, Michigan. The Blues will be one of eight NHL organizations represented at the tournament, along with Carolina, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Minnesota and the New York Rangers. The Blues will play in the Gordie Howe division, and clubs will participate in a three-game round robin tournament with the winners of each division earning a spot in the championship game on Tuesday, Sept. 20. The Blues roster will be made up of several of the organization’s top prospects, including forwards Ivan Barbashev and Jordan Kyrou, defensemen Vince Dunn and Jordan Schmaltz, and goaltenders Evan Fitzpatrick and Ville Husso. Before leaving for the tournament, the prospects will hold a public practice on Thursday, Sept. 15 at noon at the Ice Zone at St. Louis Outlet Mall. The first prize, sponsored by the Swiss investment firm Adveq , was not his only award as he also won the Best Swiss Candidate Prize as well as the Contemporary Dance Prize for his interpretation of an extract from John Neumeier’s ballet Nijinsky. 1/10 The 17-year-old comes from Aversa, a town 5 kilometres north of Naples, famous for its buffalo mozzarella and white wines. Although the town is not large – about 50,000 inhabitants – he is by no means the first with an artistic bent to be born there. The prolific 18th Century composer Domenico Cimarosa (Il matrimonio segreto) came from Aversa, as did the lesser known, but influential, Niccolò Jommelli. It is also the birthplace of Caterina Balivo, the presenter of the campest programme on Italian daytime TV! What made the young Michele want to start dancing? I started dancing when I was three years old. It was just for fun, with my sister. We were encouraged by our parents who loved the fact that we wanted to learn, because they too took lessons at an amateur level. One of his early role models was Giuseppe Picone who was born in nearby Naples, and is now director of the city’s ballet company at Teatro San Carlo. He’s Neapolitan, like me, and very well known in the area where I live in Italy. -

Breathtaking Royal Ballet virtuoso Tetsuya Kumakawa talks to Ismene Brown THE sound that sighs through the auditorium is the giveaway. Like a tiny escape of air from an atmosphere as tight as a drum, you hear 2,000 people, in spite of themselves, go “Aaah”, when Tetsuya Kumakawa jumps. Kumakawa is arguably the greatest ballet virtuoso in the world, a slight Japanese man of 24, who seems to make the earth look far away when he leaps, and can spin 17 times on one foot in a single move. His unique combination of athletic gifts and balletic exquisiteness breaks down any preconceptions about ballet being elite, and makes even newcomers to ballet drop their jaws in amazement. “The wow factor” is what the top American choreographer Twyla Tharp thought when she first saw him last year, and as the public will see at the revival this week of her ballet for Covent Garden, 'Mr Worldly Wise', wow is what Kumakawa provides. Ironically, he himself is the one person who doesn’t know what he does. “When I die, my one regret will be that I never could see myself on stage,” he says in all seriousness. He feels when he’s jumping well, but however much he scours videotape of himself, he can never see what we can see, that illusion of flight, the hanging in the air, the supernatural ability to slow down almost to a stop in the middle of a move and suddenly speed up to a blur again. -
