Creighton University On Saturday, February 11th, Gonzaga University will Gonzaga University celebrate the fifth annual Gonzaga Day. The men's basketball team will attempt to continue its unbeaten Loyola Marymount University streak (25-0) during a game against long-time West Coast Loyola University Chicago Conference rival Saint Mary's, and the University will Loyola University Maryland Loyola University New Orleans conclude a 72-hour giving challenge. Black History Month Events; Upcoming Conferences on Jesuit Campuses

This month, a number of Jesuit institutions are hosting events to commemorate Black History Month including Canisius College, Loyola Marymount University, Saint Joseph's University, University of Detroit Mercy, University of San Francisco and the University of Scranton (if your institution is not listed, please write to Deanna Howes for inclusion in next week's issue: [email protected]).

Tomorrow, Loyola University Maryland's men's lacrosse game against UVA will be the first NCAA men's lacrosse game to be live-streamed on Twitter; on Tuesday, College of the Holy Cross will host a Valentine's Day Giving Challenge, and on Thursday, Loyola University Chicago will host a symposium on Dorothy Day. This past week, registration went live for this summer's Justice in Jesuit Higher Education Conference at Seattle University. Finally, Loyola Press is hosting a 'social media takeover' on Ignatian Spirituality next Monday, and the Cova Manresa organization has announced a variety of spiritual and educational programs in Manresa, Spain this summer.

Updates on Executive Order

Earlier this week, our sister organization, the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Latin America (AUSJAL), issued a statement in support of undocumented students and efforts by AJCU institutions to protect them. In addition, Jesuit Refugee Service issued a joint interfaith statement with the Italian Islamic Religious Community in support of Christians and Muslims.

We continue to receive stories from our schools on ways that students, faculty and staff are responding to the immigration ban: a Loyola Marymount University student's translating work at LAX Airport was featured in Los Angeles Times; Fordham University law students welcomed the daughter of their Iranian classmate at JFK Airport; and a University of Scranton professor published an op-ed on the immigration ban for The Scranton Times-Tribune.

Canisius College has launched a new program for students to share in prayer with the College's president; the University of Detroit Mercy's president spoke about the University's impact on Detroit; Fairfield University announced a 75th anniversary essay contest; Georgetown University will start a new Master's program in Urban Education, Learning & Design; a Marquette University professor received a National Science Foundation grant to study solar power; 's fall-spring student retention rate is at a 10-year high; a new Saint Louis University study shows that volunteering helps veterans transition more easily to civilian life; and Wheeling Jesuit University's pro-life club received this year's Rev. Thomas King, S.J. Award for most outstanding collegiate pro-life group.
