"Red" Reese is head engineer on the Eastern Wash­ ington college football special. He's been a good driver, bringing in a championship team six of the 10 preceding years. Occasionally, the Savage coach let's off a little steam, but most of the time it is a bard-fighting, well­ coached Savage football team that rambles along the victory rail with a green light from the first station to the last game. For the alumni who haven't heard, Red resigned the football coaching job last summer to spend more time in his new position as Director of Athletics, but when the "draft" blew out temporarily, Hal Jones, who was named to step into the coaching spot, Reese once again took hold of the Savage throttle. He's still one of the few coaches who can handle all three major sports and has established a record at Eastern vVashington that will not be dimmed by cloudy years. W. B. "Red" REESE, Head Coach Not many years ago Jerry Stannard, named this fall to assist Coach Red Reese with athletic teams at Eastern ,vashington, was himself wearing the Red and White football uniform of the Savages. It was a case of "good master and good pupil" for now the likeable Jerry is going places as assistant coach. College coaching is no novelty to the new Savage mentor, for Jerry was the pilot behind the Whitworth college athletic wagon which several times almost succeeded in derailing the Cheney locomotive. He handles team training, patches up the players and splits the practice drills with Coach Reese. His presence at Eastern Washington should materially reflect in the attitude, character and team loyalty of the 11 men playing on the field today and on the others to come. BSU got an eleven percent allocation increase for 1976-77, a total of $13.7 million. That compared to $12.3 million this year, and it is the highest percent­ age increase awarded among the three universities. The allocation still left BSU far behind the University of Idaho in total budget allocation dollars. UI received a $22.6 million allocation, compared to $21.5 million in its current budget. Thus, UI gets a five percent allocation increase. Idaho State University was awarded $15.5 million for fiscal 1976-77, a seven percent increase over the $14.4 million in its current budget. They helped rural medical partners develop infection-control and prevention plans, delivered free virtual lectures on new public-health developments, and our students helped with Spokane County contact tracing efforts. Our patient care efforts, both in the e-learning environment and out in the field, are an integral part of our continued work to advance health and well-being for all eastern Washington residents. In a year marked by hardship, we achieved a significant new milestone. In October, we broke ground with McKinstry and the Emerald Initiative on the new home for our medical and health-care programs. Located in Spokane’s burgeoning health sciences district, the center will open in 2022 to serve UW School of Medicine medical students and Gonzaga health-professions students, as well as a hub for local entrepreneurs to drive innovative health research.

    Michael E. Engh, S.J. Michael E. Engh, S.J. took office as the 28th president of Santa Clara University in 2009. He serves as the chief executive officer with overall responsibility for its operational affairs. Since arriving at Santa Clara, Father Engh has led the University in defining the University's vision and setting the course for the future with the bold new plan, Santa Clara 2020. Fr. Engh serves on a number of boards, including the Board of Trustees of Boston College, the Board of Directors of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, the Board of Directors of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU), the Council of Presidents of the Graduate Theological Union, and the Board of Trustees of Bellarmine College Preparatory. He chairs the President’s Council of the West Coast Conference and holds appointments on the Executive Board of the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, the Executive Committee of the AJCU. He also is a member of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. Prior to his appointment as president, Fr. Engh served as Dean of the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts and professor of history at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. A teacher and historian of the American West, Fr. Engh has published on the history of Los Angeles and the role of religion in the history of the American West. He was ordained a priest for the Society of Jesus in 1981. He holds a B.A. from Loyola University of Los Angeles, now Loyola Marymount University; an M.A.
