2. Areas of Focus

2.1. Introduction Membership (2.1.1) Programs (2.1.2) Prayer Card Initiative Rise – Real Life Catholic Special Olympics Colorado Catholic Referral Initiative Apostolate for Holy Relics Affiliate Membership Initiative Silver Rose 2.1.1 Membership Coordinator Areas of Focus 2.1.1.1 Prayer Card Initiative Four sets of prayer cards have been distributed to District Deputies across Colorado. This program is meant to be an outreach to the parishes. The request is simple: ask the Pastor for permission to distribute the prayer card and if he would be willing to lead the community in prayer on the day of their distribution. Four sets of prayer cards were chosen so that one could be distributed per quarter in the parish. The four prayer cards are: - Saint Michael the Archangel - Consecration to Saint Joseph - Saint John Vianney - Prayer for Persecuted Christians

2.1.1.2 Shining Knight Newly reconceived for this fraternal year, the concept is that every Knight of Columbus in Colorado can be a Shining Knight. The criteria are similar to the Shining Knight program of the past, with the notable exception that any Brother Knight can earn it this year. The criteria include: - Participation in 3 Council Events/Projects - Have participated in Exemplifications of Charity, Unity, and Fraternity - Met with the Insurance Field Agent - Sponsor a new members into the Order & identify the date of the degree for that member - Submission of the Shining Knight Application Form

2.1.1.3 Catholic Referral Initiative Past Supreme Knight Carl Anderson said at the outset of his term of office that ‘the Knights of Columbus has the moral obligation to offer every eligible Catholic man the opportunity to join the order and enjoy its benefits.’ The Catholic Referral Initiative has been introduced as a way of allowing members a very simple recruiting method. A member of the Knights of Columbus knows another Catholic man, and passes his name and contact information along to the General Agent for the Agency to pursue for membership. Each referral of a Catholic man by a Knight is an entry of the Knight’s name into a quarterly drawing. The quarterly drawing is for a weekend trip for the Knight and his spouse to a mountain Colorado location.

2.1.1.4 Affiliate Membership Initiative

3 The Affiliate Membership Initiative is still in its rollout phase from the Supreme Council, and Colorado’s date for participation has not yet been determined. That said, a man makes an intentional decision to become a Knight; he should have the power to make the decision himself to no longer be a Knight.

The Affiliate Membership Initiative is meant to be a way for inactive, non-dues-paying members of Councils to be ‘reclaimed’ by the Supreme Council and reintroduced to the value of membership in the Knights of Columbus.

The member that qualifies for Affiliate Membership Status is one who: - Has had 18 months of no contact with the parish / Council, even after phone or electronic outreach; - Is not visible at meetings or in the parish; and - Is not current on dues.

The Financial Secretary will be asked to create a list of these members to his Grand Knight and Trustees. The Grand Knight will approve and forward the list to the District Deputy, who will in turn approve and submit to the Supreme Council.

2.1.2 Programs Coordinator Areas of Focus 2.1.2.1 Rise – Real Life Catholic Three goals have been identified to this program area of focus: 1) Help men grow in their faith; 2) Increase Mass Attendance; and 3) Grow the Order. According to Real Life Catholic, the producer of the Rise Program, Rise is a 30-day challenge for men who desire greater peace, balance, and fulfillment in their lives. Links have been shared with District Deputies to participate in this program completely free of charge to the attendees.

Five high-level takeaway points from this program: - Obtain permission from the Pastor for parish participation; - The dates of this retreat program are September 8 through October 7, 2021; - There is NO COST to the parish; - A group should meet once per week (live or virtual) to discuss the content; - This program is open to all

2.1.2.2 Special Olympics Colorado The Knights of Columbus has a unique partnership with the Special Olympics and has helped disabled athletes train for and compete in games around the world. Knights of Columbus councils have assisted with all aspects of the program from fundraising to feeding the athletes, organizing and judging events, and providing equipment and awards. This area of focus carries a level of importance that is reflected in the Awards and Points program.

2.1.2.3 Apostolate for Holy Relics The Apostolate for Holy Relics represents a program opportunity traveling across the State of Colorado. Read more about the Apostolate here: http://www.relictour.org/ . Like the Rise program from Real Life Catholic, this tour of relics is meant to encourage holy

4

veneration of these relics and perhaps to serve as membership drives and a way to welcome Catholic family members back home into the life of the Church.

2.1.2.4 Silver Rose Each year, from early March through mid-December, Silver Roses are stewarded by councils along routes from Canada to Mexico. Every stop the Silver Rose makes throughout the pilgrimage is a rosary-centered occasion for Knights, parishioners, and community members to pray for respect for life, for the spiritual renewal of each nation, and for the advancement of the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Silver Rose will be touring in the Denver Archdiocese July 9 to July 25, in the Springs Diocese July 26 to Aug. 8 and in the Pueblo Diocese Aug 9 to Aug 15. There are more Supreme Resources for your Silver Rose event here: https://kofc.org/en/what-we-do/faith-in- action-programs/resources/index.html?1tab=1tab4
