Madame Xanadu's standing in the new magic order has yet to be explored in detail. Float Left Float Right. It has good moments especially the whole "Fuck you assholes, you all created issues too" but it's by the numbers and the end results in "everyone is okay" because it's superhero comics. There's no shock of the new New 52 weirdness, no cross-over confusion, in this collection you get not one but two pretty much self-contained stories and they're both oodles of fun! Unless you're stupid. He makes fun of Batman when he's too serious. This has been a long time coming! There, she meets Witchfire and is ambushed by Circe. I highly recommended this series. DeMatteis does a great job with the characters of JLD and if the final battle is a let-down, it's the least of this volume. So much to like about this volume that I'll give the, em, "inconsistent" art due to employing a bevvy of very different artists at least 4 distinct pencillers across 10 issues a pass and heap the praise on storytelling that ticks all the usual Justice League boxes, with a few pleasant surprises along the way. • Batman Takes Parade by Storm (Thesis by Jared Goodrich)
Jared Goodrich Batman Takes Parade By Storm (How Comic Book Culture Shaped a Small City’s Halloween parade) History Research Seminar Spring 2020 1 On Saturday, October 26th, 2019, the participants lined up to begin of the Rutland Halloween Parade. 10,000 people came to the small city of Rutland to view the famed Halloween parade for its 60th year. Over 72 floats had participated and 1700 people led by the Skelly Dancers. School floats with specific themes to the Star Wars non-profit organization the 501st Legion to droves and rows of different Batman themed floats marched throughout the city to celebrate this joyous occasion. There have been many narratives told about this historic Halloween parade. One specific example can be found on the Rutland Historical Society’s website, which is the documentary called Rutland Halloween Parade Hijinks and History by B. Burge. The standard narrative told is that on Halloween night in 1959, the Rutland area was host to its first Halloween parade, and it was a grand show in its first year. The story continues that a man by the name of Tom Fagan loved what he saw and went to his friend John Cioffredi, who was the superintendent of the Rutland Recreation Department, and offered to make the parade better the next year. When planning for the next year, Fagan suggested that Batman be a part of the parade. By Halloween of 1961, Batman was running the parade in Rutland, and this would be the start to exciting times for the Rutland Halloween parade.1 Five years into the parade, the parade was the most popular it had ever been, and by 1970 had been featured in Marvel comics Avengers Number 83, which would start a major event later in comic book history.

  • Crossmedia Adaptation and the Development of Continuity in the Dc Animated Universe
“INFINITE EARTHS”: CROSSMEDIA ADAPTATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTINUITY IN THE DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE Alex Nader A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2015 Committee: Jeff Brown, Advisor Becca Cragin © 2015 Alexander Nader All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeff Brown, Advisor This thesis examines the process of adapting comic book properties into other visual media. I focus on the DC Animated Universe, the popular adaptation of DC Comics characters and concepts into all-ages programming. This adapted universe started with Batman: The Animated Series and comprised several shows on multiple networks, all of which fit into a shared universe based on their comic book counterparts. The adaptation of these properties is heavily reliant to intertextuality across DC Comics media. The shared universe developed within the television medium acted as an early example of comic book media adapting the idea of shared universes, a process that has been replicated with extreme financial success by DC and Marvel (in various stages of fruition). I address the process of adapting DC Comics properties in television, dividing it into “strict” or “loose” adaptations, as well as derivative adaptations that add new material to the comic book canon. This process was initially slow, exploding after the first series (Batman: The Animated Series) changed networks and Saturday morning cartoons flourished, allowing for more opportunities for producers to create content. References, crossover episodes, and the later series Justice League Unlimited allowed producers to utilize this shared universe to develop otherwise impossible adaptations that often became lasting additions to DC Comics publishing.

  • Mystic DC Jump
DC Mystic Jump This is a word of heroes and villains, of capes and cowls, where the heroes and villains both stand as shining examples of one thing thing or another. I'm sure you're familiar with it - you may have even been here before. But a world so bright casts deep shadows, and in the shadows, there is another world. This is a world of myths and monsters, magic and wonder. But this world is filled with many terrible things, and compared to the one in the light of those heroes, this is a world with scant few protectors. Of course, that's not to say it's all bad. There are wonders to be seen, adventures to be had, and there yet remain some who are willing to stand up and do the right thing out of the goodness of their hearts - or for the right price, if nothing else. Magic itself is similar. It is great and powerful, capable of a great many things depending on which mystical road you walk, but one thing always remains consistent throughout every form of magic. Magic always has a price. Just keep that in mind. But here, to get you started I'll give you 1000 CP, free of charge. Location : There are a great many places and a great many times, and a few of both where there are neither. You may freely choose any published era of DC comics to start in, and may choose one of the starting locations from below. Hey, I know I said you'd have to start paying for stuff, but I'm feeling generous - don't get used to it.

John Constantine and the homoaffective question: an analysis of LGBTI+ representations in superhero comics and animations JOHN CONSTANTINE AND THE HOMOAFFECTIVE QUESTION: AN ANALYSIS OF LGBTI+ REPRESENTATIONS IN SUPERHERO COMICS AND ANIMATIONS JOHN CONSTANTINE E A QUESTÃO HOMOAFETIVA: UMA ANÁLISE SOBRE REPRESENTAÇÕES LGBTI+ EM QUADRINHOS DE SUPER-HERÓIS E ANIMAÇÕES JOHN CONSTANTINE Y LA PREGUNTA HOMOAFFECTIVE: UN ANÁLISIS DE LAS REPRESENTACIONES LGBTI+ EN CÓMICS DE SUPERHÉROES Y ANIMACIONES Mário Jorge de PAIVA1 ABSTRACT: This article is an analysis of LGBTI + representations in comic books, superheroes, and children's animations. In particular, we will approach the character of DC Comics John Constantine, bisexual, because he is a hero of a major publisher, appearing alongside Batman, Superman etc. Our methodology is qualitative, based on a broad contribution containing: Michel Foucault, Sarane Alexandrian, James Green, João Trevisan, Dandara Cruz among others. Our conclusions involve seeing how there has really been a profound change over time. If before this type of question could not be addressed as much, or could not be addressed explicitly, today there is a greater opening for representations of LGBTI + characters. KEYWORDS: LGBTI+. Comics. Animations. John Constantine. Hellblazer.

SIMONE BIANCHI: VILLAINS AND SUPERHEROES January 9, 2015 • Steve Gray Lovers of villains, superheroes and all things comic related are in for a real treat this month as the Danese/Corey Gallery in New York present an exhibition of works on paper by the master of comic book art, Simone Bianchi. Entitled Villains and Superheroes: Works on Paper, the exhibition promises to be a dream come true for aficionados of the work of Simone Bianchi and his highly individual style of working revealed in his expert use of rendering drawings in ink washes or watercolour halftones. On view at Villains and Superheroes: Works on Paper will be a number of preparatory sketches along with finished works featuring images of characters that Simone Bianchi has become closely associated with such as Wolverine, Batman, Dr Doom, Storm and Medusa. 511 WEST 22 ST NEW YORK NY 10011 . 212.223.2227 . DANESECOREY.COM Works on Paper Browsing the images of works on paper by Simone Bianchi, one can’t help but admire the impressive techniques that have been used to create these Villains and Superheroes. Perhaps the art of comic book drawing is seen as some kind of lower form of art compared to fine art and in days of computer enhanced graphic drawings that sometimes appear to lose their very soul, Bianchi demonstrates a passion and love of drawing that can transcend those narrow minded boarders. These works on paper exist as pure drawings, superbly rendered with the aforementioned ink and watercolour washes along with pencil and acrylic paints to create images that can be appreciated as standalone works of art.
