I do not know which is worse, the cold days of winter or the intolerable days of summer. I would suspect that it is these days of August. There are more demands on us and somehow or other donations that seem to drop off because people say it is sum- mer and the needs are not so taxing. It is my experience that summer is a lot more taxing because people feel that the Poor and the Home- less don’t need much when in fact they need more. Something as simple as water is in great demand and the outside faucet becomes a drinking fountain and a shower as well. So please help us as you have been ever so faithful. I often think that without you we can do nothing but just as Jesus said `With me you can do the impossible’ . So please continue to be an instrument of the impossible through Jesus working in you, I thank you. RSVP Deborah Cummins (909) 240-6419 Sincerely, Father Barry ,SS.CC

16 September 2018 SCRIPTURE STUDY THE WISDOM LITERATURE of the BIBLE In the history of wisdom literature, no tradition matches the solace and depth of the wisdom teachings of the Bible, which offers time-honored advice about some of life’s most difficult questions: What is the reward of a virtuous life? How can we best deal with the uncertainty of life? Why does evil exist? Why do bad things happen to good people? How does God show his interest and concern for us? Wisdom literature has to do with the human person, apart from the Old Testa- ment story of Israel as God’s chosen people, even though this literature is part of that larger story and also part of our story as people of the New Covenant with Jesus in the community of the Church. Instead, Wisdom literature ad- dresses the issues that are universal to all humans. Wisdom shows a “human face” in its concern with human nature and the human condition. Wisdom’s strength is universalism, as it looks at all people in their most universal, basic categories of good and evil, of parents and chil- dren, of women and men, of peasants and princes, of lazy and diligent. For countless people, these ancient writings have offered consolation and insights into the very meaning of existence. The Wisdom literature of the Bible still has much to teach us today. The Wisdom books which we will be studying include Proverbs, , Ecclesi- astes, Sirach, the Song of Songs, and the Wisdom of , along with several sessions on Jesus as a Wisdom Teacher.

This study will be offered on Monday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 pm begin- ning on Sept. 17, in the St. Augustine room of the John Paul II Center and is repeated on Thursday mornings from 9:00 – 10:30 am beginning on Sept. 20 in the Parish Library. No registration is necessary, just join us at the time most convenient for you.

For more information, please call Mary Ann Andel at 987-9312 x 250.

RCIA—Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Is God calling you to become Catholic? It begins with an awareness...or stirring in one’s heart for something more. It could be a curiosity or a sense of long for fulfillment. Maybe it’s God calling you to explore the life of faith, love, and justice within the community of the Catholic Church.

The RCIA process offers an opportunity for you to learn and ask ques- tions about the Catholic faith. It is primarily for the un-baptized, but also includes a special tract for those baptized in another faith tradition. We also invite inquiring Catholics to come and join us for a refresher on what they learned as children We meet all year round.

Please come and join us Tuesday evenings from 7:30PM to 9:30PM in the Parish Library. For more information on the process, please call Danny or Vicki Centurioni at 909-987-7971
