FERGUSON Abstract: This article discusses the normative and legal foundations, laws, principles, approaches, means and methods of organizing the educational process and analyzing the content of the authors’ ethno pedagogical program—Olonkho pedagogy. The article relies on the aspiration of ethnic groups to preserve their own distinctiveness and maintain their ethnic and cultural identity despite the current cir- cumstances of globalization. By basing its approach on the Sakha heroic epic tradition—the Olonkho—the article describes how this tradition can introduce children to ethnocultural traditions, customs, and ceremonial rituals. The article examines manifestations of civic and ethnic identity among students, as well as their values and at- titudes toward their native language and the cultural and historical heritage of their ethnic group. Keywords: ethnodidactics, Olonkho, Olonkho pedagogy, Olonkho values, Sakha, spiritual and moral development n the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), one of the promising areas of ethnocultural education over the past two decades has been the intro- Iduction of the Olonkho—the Sakha heroic epic—into the educational system. Floods play a significant role in terms of damage and safety during construction and operation of crucial objects such as a bridge over the Lena river and underwater crossings of trunk pipelines in the North and the Arctic. A rapid rise of spring high water on the Lena river is due to accelerated melting of snow in a basin and a meridional flow direction of the river. If flood control measures are not taken, then severe economic and social consequences are inevitable, especially in places with complex infrastructure. As, for example, heavily populated cities, the strategically important objects, the underwater crossings of the trunk pipelines, bridges and power lines. This paper presents results of a study of a possibility of use of neural network algorithms to predict danger of the flood from the spring high waters on a section of the Lena river based on statistical archival data obtained over 70 years and an assessment of effectiveness of the neural network approach.

  • Health-Related Effects of Food and Nutrition Security: an Evidence of the Northern Communities in Russia
WBJAERD, Vol. 1, No. 1 (1-84), January - June, 2019 HEALTH-RELATED EFFECTS OF FOOD AND NUTRITION SECURITY: AN EVIDENCE OF THE NORTHERN COMMUNITIES IN RUSSIA Vasilii Erokhin1 Abstract In the Arctic, anthropogenic pressure on the environment and progressing climate change bring together concerns over the effects of food consumption patterns on the health of the population. The goal of this study is to contribute to the development of a unified approach to revealing those effects and measuring healthy nutrition applicable across various types of circumpolar territories, populations, and consumption behavior. By applying the Delphi approach, the author builds a set of parameters along four pillars of food and nutrition security (FNS) and applied it to eight territories of the Russian Arctic. The linkages between FNS status and health are recognized by employing multiple regression analysis on the incidence rates of nutritional and metabolic disorders and diseases of the digestive system. The analysis involves: (1) urban agglomerations with prevalence of marketed food; (2) high-polluted industrial sites; (3) habitats of indigenous reindeer herders (meat- based diet); (4) coastal indigenous communities (fish-based diet). The study finds that, in Type 1 and 2 territories, health disorders are caused by poor quality of water, lack of proteins, vitamins, and minerals, and increasing share of marketed food in the diets. In Type 3 and 4 territories, higher reliance on traditional food results in lower incidence rates. Key words: Arctic, environment, food security, nutrition, rural areas, urban agglomerations. JEL2: I19, Q19 Introduction Exposure to long-range transported industrial chemicals, climate change, and diseases pose a risk to the overall health and populations of Arctic wildlife (Sonne et al., 2017) and human health in the Arctic region.
