Consuming raw or undercooked meats, poultry, seafood, or eggs may increase your risk of foodborne illness. giving back - hope for Nepal Life without culture would look a lot like a canvas with no paint; it’d sound like a song with no melody, taste like a meal with no spices. We get the clothes on our backs from our culture, just as we get the language in our mouths from our culture. In the many societies we see today, there are structures and customs that have survived the sands of time and seas of space in order to be here now and give us our ways of life. Imagine your culture disappearing completely. My husband and I are proud to be active participants in building a strong Mequon-Thiensville community. The team at the cheel has also joined us in the many opportunities we all have to be a part of the local positive change like KidShare, MDA Black-N-Blue Ball, Education Foundations, Thiensville Village Market, area schools and more. We understand that cultivating a positive company culture and giving back to our community go hand-in-hand. In April of last year, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal in an area between the capital, Kathmandu, and the city of Pokhara. Schools destroyed, towns left in ruin, families fatally estranged—a tragic impact on one of the world’s richest cultures. Jesse and I sponsored “HOPE for NEPAL” through the Cheel as soon as we heard of this devastation because we knew there was no time to lose in preserving what was left of our culture. We are thrilled to have raised $18,000 so far that has gone to providing food, water and shelter to over 500 families—but there is still work to be done. Here’s how you can help! Every dollar counts. For example, $1,000 (USD) can buy approximately 2,000 lbs. of rice and 200 lbs. of dal (lentil) with salt and oil to cook it. 96% of the donations will go directly to help families in Nepal, while 4% is the fee for the crowd-funding site. If you donate directly at the restaurant, 100% of it will go to the cause! With your help, Nepalese culture will continue to inspire and amaze the world as it has for centuries. Details and updates can be found at gogetfunding.com/hope-for-nepal/ Our Story it takes a Village! “So, where’s the restaurant?” That’s the question We’d like to thank the following for their everyone was asking after they tried the exquisite momo and aachar Barkha and Jesse Daily were efforts in helping us restore this serving from their stands at local community Victorian landmark: events such as, the Thiensville Village Market, and the Taste of Mequon. Everyone was raving about The Village of Thiensville the unique offerings, having such distinguished and Thiensville Fire Department balanced flavors. This fare was part of everyday life in Barkha’s previous home in Nepal. Mequon-Thiensville Historical Society These Recipes have been perfected over time, and Thiensville Business Association handed down for generations, in a place where Port Washington State Bank “farm to fork” isn’t a catch-phrase, but a way of life, and has been for centuries. The Buerosse Family So, when Jesse met Barkha and their food sensibilities The Conley Family danced, laughed, and played together, they found The Caucutt Family themselves, their hearts, and their souls making unique and inspirational Himalayan dishes people The Daily Family truly enjoyed. The path they navigated was heading in the right direction. Barkha and Jesse flew to The Eckert Family Kathmandu, got married, moved to Thiensville, and The Egelhoff Family planted roots eager to grow and deepen, in hope of positively contributing to their community. The Gabor Family Naturally, they gravitated to the Thiensville Village The Hutt Family Market where quality ingredients were plentiful, while being able to promote area farmers in the The Langlois Family exploding food-craft cottage industry, and share The Mrugala Family their love for people and food. Barkha and Jesse have been an integral part of the team that is The Palkowski Family running the Thiensville Village Market, and have been campaigning Thiensville ever since. The Perkins Family The Sandretti Family Then one day, Barkha and Jesse gazed upon a dilapidated yet charming building, and their The Schofield Family entrepreneurial spirits began to simmer. The building’s central location and deep history The Selk Family invigorated their creativity and drive. Their goal Linda Williams to revive a once esteemed local landmark, and celebrate with the community their unique dining Katie Vaughan traditions had begun. Their combination of Nepali and American cuisines would express their passion for quality, and their yearning for excellence. thank you Deciding to name their restaurant ”The Cheel”, or in English, “The Eagle” came as no surprise considering there were dozens soaring overhead in the Himalayan Mountains of Kathmandu where they were married. There is a bronze eagle commissioned to sit atop the beautifully restored [email protected] building’s signature spire. It is keeping watch over thecheel.com two people, deeply committed to improving their 262-236-9463 community through dedication, hard work, and 105 s. main st., thiensville, wi 53092 giving straight from their hearts.
