I hope training is going well and that your performances are better than you expect at this stage. The Club has already enjoyed tremendous success in the "off" season with a number of our athletes competing at an international level and a great team (including 4 of your committee...obviously not me) attending the Uni Games on the Gold Coast. We recently dug deep into the pool of Little A's talent to field some successful teams in the State U18 relays. I recently attended the UWA Sports Awards dinner to see Cruz Hogan receive a full Blue for his efforts over the last 12 months. Off the track, the Friends of UWA hosted the 85th Anniversary Dinner at the Floreat Bowls Club. Many past glories were re-visited and re-created. A highlight was the presentation of a Life Membership by Men's Club Captain, Tom Kozak, to Don Young in recognition of his service to the Club over many decades. (see the complete Don Young story below). The season's social programme kicked off recently with a BBQ at the AJ Pavillion. I would encourage you to continue supporting the committee's efforts. They know it's is important to balance a strict training regime with a healthy social programme, so make sure you make time for these events. The next opportunity to mix business with pleasure will be at the Big 6/Little A's Twilight Carnival on Friday, 13 December at McGillivray Oval. There will be the usual 1000m, 300m,60m, long jump and javelin interspersed with similar events for the juniors. There will be a bar open when you want a rest from the Bouncy Castle and to prepare yourself for the DJ. I hope to see you there. 2 Noticeboard Club Committee Congratulations 2012-2013 Well done to Louise Soia and Tom Kozak on their selection for UWA Athletics Captains for 2013-2014 season. President Tim Lyons Congratulations to Amy McCormick, Jonas Aranda and Tarinah Nazaroff who have been selected to be a part of Secretary the WA Track and Field Development squad. Sally McCormick Congratulations to Cruz Hogan for being awarded a Full Treasurer Blue Sports award recently at the UWA Sports Awards. It is Shane Cassey a huge honour and credit to his achievements over the past year. Registrar We wish all athletes heading to Australian All Schools Kylie Wheeler Championships in Townsville and Zatopek10 in Melbourne, all the best in their events and look forward to hearing Club Captains about the performances. Louise Soia Tom Kozak UWA to host reduced program meet during track closure th On the 17 of January 2014 there will be a meet at General Committee McGillivray Oval for anyone wishing to compete. With the Lyn Foreman track out of action it will be a great opportunity to have a Sam Maxwell run and socialise with your fellow athletes. We were lucky enough to only have to cancel two competition nights with one due to excessive heat and the other with heavy rain and thunderstorms. Our athlete numbers were slightly down for the season 2014-2015 however our committee will try and market the local public schools to increase our sign on registrations for the following season. The representative season started with the Zone Championships at Glenbrook and with a week of torrential rain leading up to the carnival it looked like it was going to be delayed at the final hurdle, however it went ahead and was a great weekend where all our athletes performed outstandingly and the Glenbrook Little Athletics club should be commended for hosting a great carnival.
