Until Saipan, Marines never encountered anything remotely like the urban-type warfare they faced in Garapan and a number of smaller town centers. The reorganization of Marine infantry squads into four-man fire teams came just in time for the urban warfare on Saipan. It took no effort whatsoever for the tactics of clearing buildings to break up 4TH MARINE DIVISION the integrity of so large a unit as a twelve man squad. Official USMC Photo . • The monthly Staff Meeting is held at 1900hrs. on the Wed. before the scheduled Membership meeting. • The Board of Trustees (BOT) will meet at 1800hrs., just prior to the monthly Staff meeting held on the Wednesday before the Mem- bership meeting. The BOT consists of the Comdt., Sr. Vice Comdt., the Junior Vice Comdt., the Judge Advocate and the Jr. Past Cmdt. And the Adjutant. • The Detachment Pistol Team meets on the first Saturday of each month at the Detachment at 1100hrs unless otherwise posted. • MCLA meets the first Tuesday of every month. • Karaoke is every Tuesday and Thursday. • Fridays are for Wings. 12 noon til 7pm every Friday. • Fish and Chips every Friday night 4:30pm to 7:00pm • Card Game the last Sunday of every month, 1:00 to 4:00pm, at the house. • 16 June 2019-Fathers Day Muscular Dystrophy Fund Raiser, 4 to 9pm • 01 June 2019-Thrashers Baseball Veterans Night. Pinatubo erupted. • 14 June 1898-two companies of Marines defeated the Spanish near Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. • 15 June 1944-the 2nd and 4th Marine Divisions land on Saipan. • 16 June 1941- The 1st Provisional Marine Brigade replaces the British Army in Iceland. • 21 June 1945-Hostilities ended on Okinawa. The American flag was raised by MajGen Geiger. • 24 June 1900-The American Legation Guard joined the Allies to repulse a heavy Boxer Rebellion attack. • 26 June 1891-The Marine Corps established its first post at Port Royal, SC., later known as Parris Island • 26 June 1918-The Battle of Belleau Wood ended. • 27 June 2012-The Congressional Gold Medal was presented to the Montford Point Marines. • 30 June 1834-The Marines were placed under Navy jurisdiction by Congress.
