Premièrement, je tiens à remercier Professeur Schoentjes, dont les cours fascinants sur la littérature française contemporaine ont contribué au choix du sujet de ce mémoire et dont les remarques et les bons conseils m’ont aidé à rédiger ce travail de maîtrise. Finalement, il me reste à remercier mes parents, Alain Vercammen-Grandjean et Ann De Bodt, pour leurs supports inconditionnels, ainsi que mes proches, Solène Dia en particulier, pour leurs idées rafraîchissantes et leurs amitiés sincères. 3 Introduction Pierre Gascar, pseudonyme gascon de Pierre Fournier, est compté parmi ces écrivains de plus en plus rares qui échappent aux catégories1. Journaliste, romancier, nouvelliste, il a publié « une cinquantaine de titres […] dont la diversité, exclusive de la dispersion, s’attache, d’évidence ou secrètement, à ne pas trahir les couleurs du réel » 2. « La guerre et la captivité, la cruauté des hommes et celle, épouvantée, des animaux, l’application de quelques lois du règne végétal à une allégorie de la condition humaine3 » : ainsi se résument les thèmes principaux dans l’œuvre de Gascar. -

ANDRE BOURIN LES REEDITIONS Anatole France : Histoire comique, la Révolte des anges, l'Ile des pingouins. Un cadavre : sous ce titre paraissait, le 18 octobre 1924, un pamphlet rassemblant toute une série d'invectives infâmes, profé• rées par une demi-douzaine de surréalistes, parmi lesquels Breton, Eluard et Aragon, impatients de se faire remarquer par quelque scandale dans le monde des Lettres. Leur cible était Anatole France, dont avait lieu, le même jour, les obsèques nationales. Sa gloire exaspérait ces énergumènes qui s'érigeaient en justiciers pour piétiner allègrement le « bon Maître » et lui interdire, bien entendu, tout accès à la postérité. Ils ont échoué. Nombreux, aujourd'hui, de Jean d'Ormes- son à François Mitterrand, de Robert Merle à Daniel Boulanger et Armand Lanoux, sont ceux qui rendent hommage à Anatole France. Au Cercle des bibliophiles, Jacques Suffel, éminent francien, a publié, il y a quelques années, ses Œuvres complètes en vingt-neuf beaux volumes reliés ; seize au moins de ses ouvra• ges figurent au catalogue du Livre de poche ; une édition critique (la première) de ses Œuvres romanesques, établie par Marie- Claire Bancquart, est prévue dans la Bibliothèque de la Pléiade ; la télévision s'intéresse à lui ; enfin, chez Calmann-Lévy viennent d'être réédités successivement trois de ses romans : Histoire comique, la Révolte des anges et l'Ile des pingouins, chacun d'eux précédé d'une préface (1). Comment fait-il? Je ne suis pas dans le secret de sa forge, mais un pre- mier souvenir me vient immédiatement à l’esprit. Je l’ai rencontré pour la première fois en 1971, mais ce n’est qu’en 1972 que j’ai eu un aperçu de sa méthode de travail. Dans un bureau de Valeurs actuelles, je l’ai surpris un jour en train de découper des bandelettes de papier sur lesquelles étaient écrites, à la machine à écrire, des phrases, des paragraphes, des citations, des notes, des références, tout cela rédigé en vrac, au hasard de ses recherches et de ses réflexions, en vue d’un article. -

Les mécontents, les ennemis du système, les contestataires, les destructeurs, les nihi- listes, les terroristes, les rebelles ? Extrémistes, les militants du Front natio- nal, les néo-royalistes, les catholiques intégristes ? Extrémistes, les trotskystes, les maoïstes, les nos- talgiques de Staline, les nationaux-communistes ? Over the past decade, we have seen surging violence in the United States, Europe and beyond motivated by elements of white supremacy from Anders Breivik in Norway to Brenton Tarrant in New Zealand to Patrick Crusius in El Paso, Texas. These killers influence and inspire one another. European and American adherents are learning from each other, supporting each other and reaching new audiences. They feel empowered and emboldened because they perceive that they are influencing the political climate and reaching disaffected whites. 1 / 75 Global access to white supremacist ideology, and its easy dissemination across borders via various social media platforms, means many of the ideas promoted by the white supremacist movement — curtailing of non-white immigration, attacks on globalization and the accompanying conspiracies about elitist globalists — are increasingly part of mainstream political and social rhetoric. Exposing and understanding the connections among white supremacists and the paths by which they spread their hate are the first steps toward countering them. This report lays that groundwork, but continued vigilance and urgent action are necessary. Political leaders, law enforcement, social media companies, and educators have important roles to play and responsibilities to uphold. -

Tel Aviv University, 2005 A Dissertation presented to the Graduate Faculty of the University of Virginia in Candidacy for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of History University of Virginia July, 2016 © 2016 Nir Avissar Abstract The aim of this dissertation is to provide a critical history of French reportage photography in the decades following the Second World War, beginning with the Liberation in 1944 and ending in May ’68. During the Trente Glorieuses, reportage photography became an integral part of the media, which operated as the central platform for engaging the public in political discourse. My research explores how, during this era of mass communication, the photographic medium participated in the nation’s political life in concrete historical circumstances. In the course of this investigation, I inspect both the material, thematic, and formal strategies photographers employed to produce images in different political contexts, and the publication history of their works (who published their images, in what format, and for what purposes). The dissertation thus examines the role reportage photography played in promoting political discourse in France by visually engaging the most critical historical processes the nation was undergoing: modernization, democratization, and decolonization. At the same time, it also analyzes the reciprocal impact that changing political climate had on reportage photography. Specifically, it provides an historical account of the multiple causes that effected during the 1960s the displacement of humanist photography by photojournalism as the medium’s prominent current. -
