Using rent data on a large cross section of residential properties in Available online 16 September 2012 Amsterdam we are able to develop an annual constant-quality rent index for the entire time period. Whereas nominal rents nearly tripled over the considered sample period, JEL classification: average Amsterdam house rents, in real terms, had approximately the same level in N1 1850 as they exhibited in 1550. Otherwise stated, nominal rents and goods prices rose N3 at the same pace. Over these 301 years, the real index moves between a minimum level N6 of 45.6 and a maximum of 162.4. As concerns the relation between the housing market N9 R1 and the real economy, we find empirical evidence that fluctuations in rents and fluctua- tions in proxies of business cycle activity comove, both in nominal and in real terms.     PRESS FEATURE Great-Britain in Amsterdam Amsterdam has centuries-old ties with Great Britain. At the beginning of the 17th century, Amsterdam was a temporary refuge for the Pilgrim Fathers. A reminder of this is the English Church at the Begijnhof (a courtyard of almshouses), where services in English have taken place every Sunday since 1607. In 1609, Englishman Henry Hudson departed on the ship De Halve Maen from the quay at the Schreierstoren in Amsterdam. After a long journey, he reached the island of Manhattan where he founded Nieuw Amsterdam, which later became New York. But the relationship between Great Britain and the Netherlands has not always been so peaceful: four Anglo-Dutch Wars were fought in the 17th and 18th centuries over trade routes. Amsterdam has commemorated these wars with four beautiful funeral monuments for naval heroes, which can be found in the Oude Kerk (Old Church) and the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). Well-loved destination According to many travel stories, Amsterdam has been a well-loved destination with visitors from Great Britain since 1600. The Englishman Peter Mundy, for example, wrote in 1640: “The view of the city from the Westertoren is more beautiful and delightful than any other city I have beholden.” Today, Amsterdam attracts more than a million overnight stays by British tourists annually. English Reformed Church Amsterdam’s English Church, a medieval church that was made available to the English community in the city in 1607, can be found in the Begijnhof. On 5 February 1607, Pastor John Paget held his first sermon about Psalm 51:10: “Create in me a clean heart, O Lord.” The occasion is commemorated with the verse written in beautiful lettering on the church wall.

Inleiding Op verzoek van de CVC (d.d. 17 april 2018) zijn hieronder de benodigde maatregelen als gevolg van de voorgestelde wijzigingen in de verkeerscirculatie rondom de Amstel in Binnenring tracédeel Sarphatistraat Zuid uitgewerkt. In de eerdere CVC van 17 april 2018 is de CVC al akkoord gegaan met de voorgestelde wijzigingen in de circulatie (zie figuur 1). In deze memo werken we dit voorstel verder uit en geven we aan welke fysieke maatregelen er nodig zijn om de circulatie aan te kunnen passen. Relatie project met Investeringsagenda Openbaar Vervoer (IAOV) In de Investeringsagenda Openbaar Vervoer (IAOV) ) zijn een aantal knelpunten benoemd bij de Hoge Sluis. Het links afslaande autoverkeer hindert de tram omdat deze vaak op de trambaan stil blijven staan om te wachten op vele tegemoetkomend (fiets)verkeer. De maatregelen die hiertegen genomen kunnen worden zijn het verlengen van de persrichel zodanig dat autoverkeer niet meer linksaf kan slaan (of heel moeilijk). De doorgang blijft voldoende breed om fietsen wel te faciliteren om linksaf te kunnen gaan. Daarnaast is het gunstig voor de doorstroming van tram en fiets om minder of geen linksaf slaand autoverkeer te hebben, wat in de maatregelen ook is meegenomen. Relatie project met Verkeersmaatregelen Omgeving Munt (VOM) Het succesvol functioneren van een fietsstraat hangt in belangrijke mate af van de hoeveelheid auto’s die te gast zijn in dergelijke straat.
