7 Kandeez 15 Year Anniversary

Aylesbury-based Dance School, Kandeez, are THE ANNIVERSARY SHOW celebrating their 15 year 14/07/2019 anniversary with a summer show at Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre this July.

Almost 200 dancers will take part in the celebrations which will reflect on the memories of the last 15 years and the growth of the School to date. Dancers will be joined on stage by three special guests, who are yet to be announced.

The performances will showcase the many varied styles offered by the School, including Disco, Street, Ballet, Acro and Lyrical Contemporary.

Kandeez Dance Principal, Michelle Bradford said, “We are all gearing up for what’s looking to be an incredible evening of dance, celebrating many talented local dancers. Our music varies from Ava Max to Queen, so I can assure you we have something for everyone! We are proud to be celebrating 15 years operating in the town and in being a part of the local community.”

Tickets can be purchased at the Waterside Theatre box office or online from the ATG website.

8 What’s on at the Community Centre

The Community Centre continues to strive to be the heart of the local community. We have groups for the younger ones six days a week starting with Sing and Sign on Monday mornings, Jumping Jelly Beans on Tuesdays, Pumpkin Patch stay and play on Wednesday afternoons and the ever popular, Aylesbury castle hire soft play on Thursdays.

For the older kids Friday’s youth club continues to be the go to place to unwind after a tough week of school and the fabulous Di Burnett continues to run her drama class on Saturday mornings. The community centre has also been a long term home to Kandeez dance school, ZKS martial arts, Affinity Badminton as well as Big Top Pre School and the community wouldn’t be the same without the 12th Aylesbury scout group who meet here on Tuesdays. We have a mix of brand new and established classes for the older residents to enjoy ranging from the Rock Choir on Wednesday mornings and evenings to the Bridge class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For the creative minds why not try ‘Nina’s escape to art’ class on Monday mornings and evenings and for the younger messier ones the Carla Lucas Holiday Camp is back for four weeks over the summer holidays. If you are looking at keeping fit why not join Slimming World or try your hand at Pilates on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a brand new Yoga class stating up soon. Kicking Kids is now into its fourth year of running classes for two to four year olds on Saturday mornings and congratulations to Smiles FC on another successful year, our local disabled football team is doing us proud on and off the football pitch.

The halls are available over the weekend for private hire and on Sunday we are host to four different church’s, three in the morning and one in afternoon. Is there not a class for you? Why not start your own class? Pop into the community centre to find out how much it would cost.

9 Unitary Council

The new unitary council offers an exciting new beginning for Buckinghamshire and positive change for residents and communities across the county.

Key Facts: • The new unitary authority will be called . • It will go live on 1 April 2020. • All five existing county and district councils in Buckinghamshire will cease to exist on 31 March 2020. • There will be 147 elected members on the new council (this works out as three per current county ward). • Elections for the new Buckinghamshire Council will take place in May 2020, May 2025 and then every four years. Town and parish elections will coincide.

How will it affect me? There will be no immediate changes to services so don’t worry – your bins will still be collected as normal, the streets will still be cleaned and everything else you rely on day-to-day will carry on. We will continue to keep you updated and inform you of any future service changes.

10 What are the benefits?

The new council will be more efficient and save money for taxpayers, helping to create a simpler, stronger and better value county-wide council. Benefits of the unitary Buckinghamshire Council include:

We have reached a milestone on the journey towards all five councils becoming one team and one new council. The Structural Changes Order - the final piece of legislation required to give the formal go ahead to begin setting up the new council - has now been passed by government.

The Shadow Authority’s first meeting will consider the appointment of interim statutory officers: the head of paid service; monitoring officer and chief finance officer. Relevant committee members and county and district council nominations to the cabinet-style Shadow Executive will also be considered. The Shadow Executive will consist of 17 councillors; eight from the county council, eight from the district councils, and the Leader of the county council. It is scheduled to meet formally for the first time on 11 June at 10am at the New County Offices, Aylesbury and then every two weeks after that during this transition phase up to go live in April.

In preparation, on 21 May at the Gateway in Aylesbury the first get together of all elected members across the five councils was held (right).

This enabled councillors to learn more from officers about services across the councils.
