Infrastructure Principles iii Aylesbury Garden Town LCWIP Executive Summary Key Moves to Increasing Journeys by Walking and Cycling in and around Aylesbury The benefits of encouraging walking and cycling to be the natural choice for local journeys and leisure purposes in and around Aylesbury are wide ranging and substantial. If it is safe, easy and convenient for people to walk or cycle to school, work, leisure destinations or to transport hubs, an uptake in the use of these sustainable transport modes will surely follow. Not only will this help create a healthier community and improve air quality, but also it will contribute to making Aylesbury a better and more sustainable place to live with a thriving economy. This Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) is a daughter document to the Aylesbury Transport Strategy and the Aylesbury Garden Town masterplan. It details how Aylesbury can evolve over the coming years as part of the Aylesbury Garden Town programme to provide high quality walking and cycling routes which are accessible for all. The key moves set out below show the main steps to delivering this transformational change: • Create a new network of routes known as the Aylesbury Wheel Figure 1-1 Aylesbury Wheel Schematic Plan The Aylesbury Wheel defines a comprehensive network which builds on the existing routes in the town to serve all local journeys,
