The vertical and horizontal alignments at this point are constrained by these communities, the desire to reduce the numbers of properties directly overlying the tunnel sections and the need to reduce risks to the River Misbourne. Mitigation: • Landscape earthworks to screen views of vent shaft; and • Planting to screen views of vent shafts. Scheme developments since publication of hybrid Bill in 2013: • No further scheme changes incorporated. P37232 (2) HOL/10024/0006 Route summary: Amersham P37243 (1) HOL/10024/0007 Route summary: Amersham With the increase in tunnel length, allowance has been made for additional tunnel cooling equipment and accompanying electrical switchgear at the Amersham vent shaft. The Chiltern tunnel passes to the south and west of Amersham with an associated vent shaft located to the south of the town between WhieldenLane and the A404. Mitigation: • Landscape earthworks to screen views of vent shaft; and • Planting to screen views of vent shafts. Scheme developments since publication of hybrid Bill in 2013: • No further scheme changes incorporated. P37244 (2) HOL/10024/0008 Route summary: South Heath P3725 (1) HOL/10024/0009 Route summary: South Heath The north portal of the Chiltern tunnel, including a 200m porous portal, is in an approx. 17m deep cutting, lying immediately north of Frith Hill, South Heath. From the portal the railway continues northwards for approximately 3km, passing under Leather Lane and Bowood Lane in cutting, varying from approx. 3.5m to 14m deep. Approximately 500m north of Bowood Lane the railway passes over the Wendover Dean viaduct, some 500m long and up to 18m high. Mitigation: • A 3m high noise fence barriers at the top of the cutting on the eastern side; • A 2m high landscape earthworks screening views of the noise fence barrier; and • Landscape planting adjacent to Stocking’s Wood to screen views of the portal from the west. Scheme developments since publication of hybrid Bill in 2013: • A reduction in the landscape and visual effects on South Heath during both construction and operation due to the extension of the Chiltern bored tunnel to beyond South Heath (AP4); • Land severance impacts on agriculture and habitat will be reduced; • A reduction in the number of demolitions required; • An overall reduction in traffic and transport impacts, particularly in South Heath; and • Amenity effects will no longer arise due to lower noise levels, both during construction and operation.

    THE HIDA TION OF BUCKINGHAMSHIRE KEITH BAILEY In a pioneering paper Mr Bailey here subjects the Domesday data on the hidation of Buckinghamshire to a searching statistical analysis, using techniques never before applied to this county. His aim is not explain the hide, but to lay a foundation on which an explanation may be built; to isolate what is truly exceptional and therefore calls for further study. Although he disclaims any intention of going beyond analysis, his paper will surely advance our understanding of a very important feature of early English society.     LCA 11.3 COOMBE HILL AND WHITELEAF CHALK ESCARPMENT LCA in Context LCA 11.3 COOMBE HILL & WHITELEAF CHALK ESCARPMENT KEY CHARACTERISTICS • Steep, north west facing chalk escarpment. A visible feature over long distances from lower lying areas in Aylesbury Vale. • Lower slopes are highly undulating, comprising large open arable and pastoral fields, which contrast with the well wooded scarp tops. Field systems often have a strong geometric character, and are commonly 20th century enclosure. • Densely wooded scarp, with the exception of the lower section. Mostly broadleaved, mixed and yew woodland, with some large areas of ancient woodland, including The Hangings, Giles Wood and Ninn Wood. Interspersed with open patches of calcareous grassland. • An extremely low density of settlement, limited to lower slopes and comprising isolated properties and individual farmsteads. The small hamlet of Loosley Row lies in the south overlooking the Aylesbury Vale. • Numerous ecological designations, including several SSSI’s (broadleaved, mixed, lowland beech/yew woodland, acid grassland and lowland calcareous grassland), at Ellesborough and Kimble Warrens, Windor Hill, Bacombe and Coombe Hills, and Grangeland and Pulpit Hill. • A good network of well managed hedgerows delineates field systems. • Important local landmarks include, Whiteleaf Cross, a distinctive chalk hill monument, carved into the escarpment side. Coombe Hill, the highest view point in the Chilterns, with the Coombe Hill Monument located on its summit. • A rich variety of archaeological remains, including Neolithic barrows, Roman and Iron Age finds, cropmark track way and enclosures, and cross dykes, with numerous scheduled monuments, such as Pulpit Hill Camp and Cymbeline’s Castle, a Motte and Bailey Castle.

    1 VALP Housing Land Supply Soundness document June 2018 Introduction 1.1 This document accompanies the Submission Vale of Aylesbury Local Plan (VALP). It sets out the housing trajectory and housing land supply position based on the housing requirement and allocations within the Pre Submission VALP. It shows that a 5 year housing land supply can be demonstrated at the point of adoption. 1.2 This housing trajectory and housing land supply calculation is different to that in the latest published Housing Land Supply Position Statement (currently June 2018). It takes into account the redistribution of unmet need to Aylesbury Vale which is a ‘policy on’ matter. It is not appropriate to use ‘policy on’ figures for the purposes of calculating a 5 year housing land supply in the context of determining individual planning applications because they have not been tested through examination and found sound. 1.3 The ‘policy off’ approach to calculating the five year supply for application decisions has been endorsed by recent inspectors.1 In the Waddesdon appeal (July 2017) the inspector concluded at paragraph 81 that: “Although there may be some distribution from other districts to Aylesbury Vale, and although what this figure is might be emerging, at this stage in the local plan process any redistribution would represent the application of policy and thus represent a ‘policy on’ figure. As the Courts have made clear this is not appropriate for consideration in a Section 78 appeal and I am therefore satisfied that for this appeal the OAN figure for Aylesbury Vale should be 965 dwellings per annum”.

They all worked so hard during their Key Stage 1 curriculum tests. We are all incredibly proud of you! It has been quite a mixed week in school. On Wednesday, Woodland Class spent the day at Frieth CEC School working with the Garsington School Project team and the Year 6 children from Frieth. I was impressed at how our children conducted themselves and their confidence shone through when working with the older children! I know they are looking forward to next Thursday when they get to perform to an audience. This morning we braved the weather and headed into the woods. The children enjoyed making a base camp using the logs we found and then worked incredibly hard in mixed groups to build dens. I know from several conversations at snack time, they are already planning what to do on our next trip to the woods. Other Information and Reminders Celebration Worship – Friday 26th May – Year 1 families As it is the disco straight after school, we will move our Celebration Worship to straight after drop off at 9am next week.
