ARB Changes to ARC

The name of the former ARB (Architectural Review Board) has been changed by the DLCA Board of Directors to more accurately reflect the group as a committee of volunteer property owners. They are now the ARC (Architectural Review Committee). If you need to members of the ARC - you should direct the email to [email protected]. Neighborhood ARC standards are now posted on the webpage www.davislakeorg/arc.htm. In addition - the ARB Application form has been updated, streamlined and posted at www.davislake.org/arc.htm. Another exciting improvement by the ARC is that future approved applications will be listed in the Davis Lake Property Owners Section of the website - by address only. Visit www.davislake.org/membersonly/.

The Davis Lake "Declaration of Covenants," requires that all homeowners must submit an application to the ARC for approval of ALL proposed exterior additions or alterations to their house, landscaping or lot. The ARC generally meets once per month - so please submit requests AT LEAST 45 days before you plan to begin work. The ARC has 30 days to determine approval AFTER the application is received. Work should not be started until AFTER ARC approval has been received.

Fly Fishing for Mountain Trout in the Nearby Mitchell River… Just a short drive from Davis Lake, is a lovely mountain setting off I-77 North at 93, near Dobson, NC. This time of year the leaves are at peak, and believe it or not, there is sufficient water level and flow to supply a good day to catch and release Rainbow, Brook, and Brown Trout! During two Saturday mornings this month, the first with my son and then with a friend from work, we had success in catching trout, and, , some stories of those that got away! By the way, the number of wineries to visit in that area has increased over the last few years, such that the Shelton Vineyards is just one of many opportunities to visit the new wine country of NC. It is said that this region of NC parallels the areas of France known for fine wines! So, get out that fly rod, camera, blanket, and binoculars, and spend some relaxing time in our beautiful foothills of NC, just about an hour and a-half from your doorstep in Davis Lake! Submitted by: Keith Bartgis, Wealth Management Consultant, TIAA- CREF & part-time fly-fishing casting instructor at Bass Pro/White River Fly Shop, and resident of Davis Lake for nearly 14 years…often seen fly- fishing at Davis Lake – not always catching!

After School Activities Ryan Houck, Community Director will be hosting after school activities Mondays beginning at 3:45. This after school program is for kids grades 5-9. Come play fun games and activities after school each Monday at the Davis Lake Field. Children are out of school at various times so participation is open beginning at 3:45pm. This is not intended to be a babysitting service so children planning to attend need parental permission and must be responsible enough to be without supervision, however; Ryan Houck, Community Director will be on site to direct activities. These activities provide a great chance to meet new kids in the neighborhood and stay active. As the number of partici- pants grows, there will be a need for more supervision-- any High School student interested in assisting please contact Ryan Houck, [email protected]. This is a great way to fulfill community service requirements for school. *If inclement weather; activities will be postponed until Wednesday.*

BOsS (Business Owner’s Spotlight) (See Family Photo on Page 2.) Fabrice and Kathleen DiNonno have lived in Charlotte for three years. They relocated from New York City where they owned a res- taurant. After starting their family, they decided to find a new city that was more affordable so they could buy a home of their own. They came to visit Charlotte one week and loved it! Within the first year they opened a new restaurant called Lulu. The restaurant was named after their oldest daughter Luci and their partner’s oldest son, Lucas. The weekend that the restaurant opened, Kathleen gave birth to another daughter Lyla—what a busy weekend! At first they rented an apartment in the University area while looking for a home. Their business partners, Marc and Lauren Jacksina, suggested they look in Davis Lake. (Lauren’s sister, Melissa Curran, lives here.) Fabrice and Kathleen loved the mature trees in the neighborhood. They also liked that it is an established community that offers many great activities for their children and family. Fabrice runs the front of the house at Lulu and handles all of the management side of the business. His partner Marc is the chef, al- though Fabrice is a true ―foodie‖ and works in the kitchen himself at lunch time. Lulu is a fun, funky little bistro, great for a night out with friends or a night out with your partner/spouse. It is also child friendly in that it is casual and usually quite loud on the weekends. It is a converted little house, so the seating is quite cozy. Lulu is open seven days a week and serves an excellent brunch on the weekends. Reservations on the weekends are recommended. You can find Lulu at 1911 Central Ave. in the Plaza Midwood area. 704-376-2242. The menu is online at luludinewine.com. If you are a homeowner in Davis Lake, Woodcroft, or Legacy, and you own your own business, send your name to communiqué@davislake.org and you could be next month’s spotlight!
