Iglesiasinglésweb.Pdf Artistic legacy within everyone’s grasp t is impossible to get to grips with Navarre without taking into consideration the routes that the St James’ Way has traced across it. For centuries this spiritual and commercial route was the Commu- inity’s backbone and its influence is still alive today. The St James’ Way provides a singular histori- cal and artistic inheritance with its monuments, particularly Romanesque features, dotted along the route. The Archbishopric of Pamplona and Tudela, the Department of Culture, Tourism and Institutional Relations and other Institutions involved with the route make it possible for pilgrims and tourists to visit and enjoy the monuments peppered along its length. They have all worked together so that people can pray and ad- mire the art in these 37 places of worship. These are a collection of churches and monasteries along the three routes crossing Navarre. The majority, 22, are found along the French Route, between Luzaide/Valcarlos and Viana, and 9 are found on the itinerary from the Aragonese Pyrenees, between Sangüesa and Viana. The Baz- tan route contributes the St Salvador Monastery in Urdax, the church of Santiago in Elizondo and the parish church of El Salvador in Irurita to this legacy, and Tudela’s cathedral and church of La Magdalena, and the church of San Juan de Jerusalén in Cabanillas, form part of the Ebro Route.     Sobre Salvatierra de Esca, Aragón y el euskera Juan Karlos Lopez-Mugartza Iriarte En el turno de preguntas que siguió a la defensa de mi tesis doctoral se citó el artícu- lo de Jesús María Sasía “Más sobre toponimia euskérica...” aparecido en la revista Euskera (número 44, 1999-2) en el que se hacía referencia a la relación que existía en el siglo XIX entre el euskera y la población altoaragonesa de Salvatierra de Esca (provincia de Zaragoza). La referencia a ese artículo parecía obligada ya que en mi tesis se citaba expresamente esa población al tiempo que manifestaba mi extrañeza por el hecho de que la mayoría de los mapas lingüísticos que han dibujado el retroce- so del euskera han solido hacer coincidir el último confín del euskera con el límite oriental de Navarra desde épocas muy remotas. En efecto, una lectura errónea del mapa que Menéndez Pidal diseñara sobre la extensión de los dialectos ibéricos en el Pirineo ha traído consigo que muchos estudiosos hayan supuesto que el euskera de- sapareció de las tierras en las que se desarrolló el romance aragonés más o menos ha- cia el siglo VIII. Efectivamente, en mi tesis señalaba que me parecía muy poco probable que una población como Salvatierra de Esca, apareciera como no vascófona ya desde época tan temprana; sobre todo teniendo en cuenta su situación geográfica a tan sólo cuatro kilómetros de Castillonuevo1, en el fondo del valle que domina esa población, y en la entrada obligada del tráfico de almadías que viene de Roncal, valle con el que limi- ta, comparte pastos en Sasi y Virgen de la Peña, y tiene acuerdos de recorridos de mugas desde tiempos inmemoriales.

Introducción Navarra es una comunidad socio-político-cultural muy diversa. La diversidad es una riqueza y un valor, siempre que sea tratada con criterios de equidad y de respeto a esa diversidad. Pero estamos inmersos en un sistema económico, el capitalismo en su vertiente de globalización neoliberal, que exige justo lo contrario: enorme y creciente desigualdad y saltarse cualquier tipo de derecho que atente contra el objetivo supremo de ese sistema, que no es otro sino el de la obtención del máximo beneficio en el menor tiempo posible. Y en Navarra también funcionan estos criterios. Navarra es una comunidad socio-económico-político- lingüístico-cultural rica pero con una desigualdad enorme. Desigualdad de clase, de género, de edad, de origen, de opción sexual… y también desigualdad territorial. Tenemos una gran riqueza económica –y también lingüística, cultural, his- tórica, ecológica…-, pero está muy mal repartida y muy mal administrada porque, como decimos, prácticamente no se respetan otros criterios que los que marca el sistema dominante y quienes lo administran. Y en este contexto, Tierra Estella tiene una estructura socioeconómica mixta, pero con un alto componente rural: el 70% de sus municipios tiene menos de 500 habitantes (y un tercio, menos de 100), con los correspondientes problemas de despoblamiento y envejecimiento que ello conlleva.
