You are invited to attend a Special Tribute to Our Lady Monday, November 16th at 6:00 pm All parishioners and friends are invited to a “Silver Rose“ prayer service at St. Mary’s on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 6:00 PM. The service is sponsored by the Legion of Mary and Knights of Columbus and will be approximately one hour. There will be a Rosary, liturgical readings, a consecration to Mary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through this service we honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas, and express both international unity and our dedication to the sanctity of human life. We are honored to be part of a pilgrimage of 8 “Silver Roses” making their way from Canada to the U. S. and Mexico. This is the second time this annual program has come through Delaware. Our Lady of Guadalupe did so much for her people in Mexico that in 1960, a youth organization of the Knights of Columbus wanted to give something back to her. They came up with the idea of running a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey Mexico. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses, an important part of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The journey of the silver rose begins each year in March and ends on December 12th, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. During that time, Silver Roses travel from town to town along routes throughout North America. Several of those routes begin in Canada and end in Mexico. One route ends in Washington, D.C., and another ends at St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, CT, where the Knights of Columbus was founded. The Silver Rose Program began in 1960, when the first rose – a real, live one – was blessed by a bishop in Ontario. The rose then traveled to New York and then to Texas where it was taken across the border into Mexico. The rose ended its pilgrimage at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey on December 12th, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. To better ensure future annual trips, a silver rose was ultimately made. Today, due to the popularity of the program throughout the North American continent, eight silver roses travel unique routes. .
