    SilverKnights of Columbus Rose Prayer Service Booklet Faith in Action Life History of the Silver Rose Our Lady of Guadalupe did so much for her people in Mexico that, in 1960, the Columbian Squires, a youth organization of the Knights of Columbus, wanted to give something back to her. The group of young men in Knights of Columbus Council 2312 in Monterrey, Mexico, came up with the idea of running a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses, an important part of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The first rose was a natural rose and was blessed by Bishop John C. Cody of London. It was then flown to New York where it was received by Grand Knight Joseph Thomasen, who in turn, took it to Supreme Knight Luke E. Hart. Mr. Hart then shepherded the rose to Dallas, Texas. There, Texas State Deputy Jack Collerin received the rose and took it to Laredo, Texas, where it was finally given to the Squires from Monterrey, Mexico, at the International Bridge in Laredo. They ran the rose from the International Bridge through Sabinas Hidalgo N.L., Mexico, to Cienega de Flores and on to the Basilica in Monterrey, Mexico, on December 12, 1960. Elizabeth of Hungary, T.O.S.F.,(German: Heilige Elisabeth von Thüringen, Hungarian: Árpád-házi Szent Erzsébet, 7 July 1207 – 17 November 1231)[5] was a princess of the Kingdom of Hungary, Landgravine of Thuringia, Germany and a greatly venerated Catholic saint.[6] Elizabeth was married at the age of 14, and wid- owed at 20. After her husband’s death she sent her chil- dren away and regained her dowry, using the money to build a hospital where she herself served the sick. She became a symbol of Christian charity after her death at the age of 24 and was quickly canonized. 1 Early life and marriage Elizabeth was the daughter of King Andrew II of Hun- gary and Gertrude of Merania. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses, an im- portant part of the story of our Lady of Guadalupe. This single gesture, first a single red rose and now a silver rose, has flown around the world, and traveled through many US States, and now comes to Blessed Trinity. “Through the Silver Rose Program, we honor not only Our Lady of Guadalupe and express the unity of the Knights of Columbus, but we also reaffirm our dedication to the sanctity of human life. It is to the Blessed Mother that we turn in prayer as we work to end the Culture of Death that grips our society. As we think of ‘One Life, One Rose,’ it is most appropriate that we turn to Our Lady of Guadalupe who made known her will through Juan Diego, and the miracle of the roses.     St. Elizabeth of Hungary Feast day: 19 November Stations of a life Elizabeth, landgravine of Thuringia, died in Marburg, over 770 years ago, on 17 November 1231, at the age of 24. Scarcely four years later, at Whitsun (Pente- cost) in the year 1235, Elizabeth was canonized by Pope Gregory IX in the church of St. Dominic in Perugia. And an other ten years later, an inscription was at- tached to the golden shrine in Marburg that held her relics for three centuries, llntil1548: "Gloria Teutoniae" -"Ruhm der deutschen Lande" (glory of the Ger- man lands). -In such respect was this holy woman held, not' only at the Wartburg in Thuringia, not only in Marburg, her last place of her activity, but far beyond the borders of the empire.     (162/06) San Gioacchino in Prati San Gioacchino in Prati is a late 19th century parish and titular church in the rione Prati. The main entrance is on Via Pompeio Magno just to the east. The Lepanto metro station is close by. Despite its high prestige ("chiesa pontificia") and magnificent architecture, this is not a minor basilica. The dedication is to St Joachim, the father of the Blessed Virgin Mary. History Until the later 19th century, the rione Prati was mostly meadows, but after the annexation of Rome by Italy in 1870 it was quickly developed into a closely-packed suburb. To provide for this three parish churches were to be built, which were San Gioacchino, Santa Maria del Rosario in Prati and Sacro Cuore del Suffragio. The original impetus for building San Gioacchino came from a French priest of Lyons named Antoine Brugidou. He wished to found an international pious sodality for the purpose of reparative adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, in order to make amends for acts of profanation in France and other countries during the French Revolution and afterwards. This Opera Internazionale dell'Adorazione Riparatrice was to have its headquarters in Rome at a new church in Prati, paid for by the faithful of various countries. The church was to be dedicated to St Joachim, in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the ordination to the priesthood of Pope Leo XIII in 1887. Abbé Brugidou wrote a book about his proposed institute in that year, and in 1890 obtained permission to begin the building project. The pope imposed a maximum limit for the amount of money to be spent, and requested that the church be finished in 1893.

    You are invited to attend a Special Tribute to Our Lady Monday, November 16th at 6:00 pm All parishioners and friends are invited to a “Silver Rose“ prayer service at St. Mary’s on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 6:00 PM. The service is sponsored by the Legion of Mary and Knights of Columbus and will be approximately one hour. There will be a Rosary, liturgical readings, a consecration to Mary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through this service we honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas, and express both international unity and our dedication to the sanctity of human life. We are honored to be part of a pilgrimage of 8 “Silver Roses” making their way from Canada to the U. S. and Mexico. This is the second time this annual program has come through Delaware. Our Lady of Guadalupe did so much for her people in Mexico that in 1960, a youth organization of the Knights of Columbus wanted to give something back to her. They came up with the idea of running a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey Mexico. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses, an important part of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The journey of the silver rose begins each year in March and ends on December 12th, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. During that time, Silver Roses travel from town to town along routes throughout North America. Several of those routes begin in Canada and end in Mexico.
