Many tings have been canceled or altred tis year due t te COVID-19 virus, te latst being te cancelaton of te Knights of Columbus Clergy and Religious Appreciaton Banquet. We are working on a raffle for latr tis year tat we hope can be successfl during te pandemic. As Knights, we wil contnue t meet our mission witin te guidance of te diocese, te count, and te stat. Our regular business meetngs are contnuing in person witout te meal or family members as long as we are permited t do so. We are patently waitng for te day we can enjoy our first meal tgeter again. Octber 12t is recognized as Columbus Day in most of te Unitd Stats. Christpher Columbus was chosen as our paton by te founding Knights t demonstat teir loyalt t teir county as wel as teir fait. Columbus was recognized as a Catolic and was celebratd as te discoverer of America and tus te Knights of Columbus was named in his honor. Today when many people in our county are questoning SK Tom Yardley te legitmacy and morals of histrical figures it is more important tan ever t understand who Christpher Columbus was, what he stod for, and why he was chosen as te Knights of Columbus name sake. A recent artcle in te Columbia magazine addresses “Five Myts About Columbus” and presents a short histrical look at his record. I encourage you read te artcle and t learn as much as you can about Christpher Columbus. We as Knights should be ready t defend his name and his histrical record. Keep us true to the pledge to extend the kingship of thy Divine Son on earth. Through Thine intercession, win for us the grace ever to exemplify in our public and private lives, the virtues, which should characterize those specially dedicated to the service of the heavenly court. Make us always aware that as your Knights we are constantly observed, our faith judged and our order appreciated. Accept O Mary, this renewed pledge of fealty and devotion of thy servants, the Knights Why is October the Month of the Rosary? October 10th is the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, sometimes referred to as the Feast of the Holy Rosary. The day was dedicated by St. Pius V who credited a victory over the invading Turks to the intercession of Mary through the rosary. Pope Benedict XVI described the image of Our Lady of the Rosary in a 2007 Angelus: “The traditional image of Our Lady of the Rosary portrays Mary who with one arm supports the Child Jesus and with the other is offering the rosary beads to St Dominic. This important iconography shows that the Rosary is a means given by the Virgin to contemplate Jesus and, in meditating on his life, to love him and follow him ever more faithfully. It is this message that Our Lady has also bequeathed to us in her various apparitions.” (Benedict XVI, Angelus, October 7, 2009) 1571 - The Battle of Lepanto The victory at Lepanto is the most famous and important of the military victories through the Rosary. On October 7, 1571 the Turk's attempted to invade Christian Europe at Lepanto on the coast of Greece. The Pope asked Catholics to pray the Rosary with the intention that the Turk's attack would fail. The Christians were out numbered 3 to 1. As the Turks sailed across the sea, a sudden storm emerged and 200 Turkish ships and 50,000 of their men sank. Thanks to the Rosary prayers and against all odds, the Christians were victorious. Meeting begins at 7 p.m. ARRIVAL OF SILVER ROSE (Sun. 9th - 16th) The Silver Rose will arrive at our parish and be placed in the Adoration chapel. FOURTH DEGREE MEETING (Thurs. 15th) Our regular 4th degree meeting will be at OLMC Parish Hall on Thursday, Oct. 20th at 7 p.m. THANK YOU! Rev. Each Team will take a turn at Sutherland all Council 6413 members are invited to attend. Refreshments will be provided at the Parish Hall supplying four members to clean the church. HIGHWAY CLEANUP (Sat. 15th at 8 a.m.) who have not been attending church during the COVID-19 virus and do not feel comfortable volunteering to clean the Sir KnightSir Knight Gerald Jose Gansle Posas Brother John Panek, Council Community Director, church the Team Captains can excuse them from this duty.     SilverKnights of Columbus Rose Prayer Service Booklet Faith in Action Life History of the Silver Rose Our Lady of Guadalupe did so much for her people in Mexico that, in 1960, the Columbian Squires, a youth organization of the Knights of Columbus, wanted to give something back to her. The group of young men in Knights of Columbus Council 2312 in Monterrey, Mexico, came up with the idea of running a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses, an important part of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The first rose was a natural rose and was blessed by Bishop John C. Cody of London. It was then flown to New York where it was received by Grand Knight Joseph Thomasen, who in turn, took it to Supreme Knight Luke E. Hart. Mr. Hart then shepherded the rose to Dallas, Texas. There, Texas State Deputy Jack Collerin received the rose and took it to Laredo, Texas, where it was finally given to the Squires from Monterrey, Mexico, at the International Bridge in Laredo. They ran the rose from the International Bridge through Sabinas Hidalgo N.L., Mexico, to Cienega de Flores and on to the Basilica in Monterrey, Mexico, on December 12, 1960.     St. Elizabeth of Hungary Feast day: 19 November Stations of a life Elizabeth, landgravine of Thuringia, died in Marburg, over 770 years ago, on 17 November 1231, at the age of 24. Scarcely four years later, at Whitsun (Pente- cost) in the year 1235, Elizabeth was canonized by Pope Gregory IX in the church of St. Dominic in Perugia. And an other ten years later, an inscription was at- tached to the golden shrine in Marburg that held her relics for three centuries, llntil1548: "Gloria Teutoniae" -"Ruhm der deutschen Lande" (glory of the Ger- man lands). -In such respect was this holy woman held, not' only at the Wartburg in Thuringia, not only in Marburg, her last place of her activity, but far beyond the borders of the empire. Elisabeth was greatly revered in Bavaria from the first, above all in.     (162/06) San Gioacchino in Prati San Gioacchino in Prati is a late 19th century parish and titular church in the rione Prati. The main entrance is on Via Pompeio Magno just to the east. The Lepanto metro station is close by. Despite its high prestige ("chiesa pontificia") and magnificent architecture, this is not a minor basilica. The dedication is to St Joachim, the father of the Blessed Virgin Mary. History Until the later 19th century, the rione Prati was mostly meadows, but after the annexation of Rome by Italy in 1870 it was quickly developed into a closely-packed suburb. To provide for this three parish churches were to be built, which were San Gioacchino, Santa Maria del Rosario in Prati and Sacro Cuore del Suffragio. The original impetus for building San Gioacchino came from a French priest of Lyons named Antoine Brugidou. He wished to found an international pious sodality for the purpose of reparative adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, in order to make amends for acts of profanation in France and other countries during the French Revolution and afterwards. This Opera Internazionale dell'Adorazione Riparatrice was to have its headquarters in Rome at a new church in Prati, paid for by the faithful of various countries. The church was to be dedicated to St Joachim, in honor of the fiftieth anniversary of the ordination to the priesthood of Pope Leo XIII in 1887. Abbé Brugidou wrote a book about his proposed institute in that year, and in 1890 obtained permission to begin the building project. The pope imposed a maximum limit for the amount of money to be spent, and requested that the church be finished in 1893.

    You are invited to attend a Special Tribute to Our Lady Monday, November 16th at 6:00 pm All parishioners and friends are invited to a “Silver Rose“ prayer service at St. Mary’s on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 6:00 PM. The service is sponsored by the Legion of Mary and Knights of Columbus and will be approximately one hour. There will be a Rosary, liturgical readings, a consecration to Mary and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Through this service we honor Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas, and express both international unity and our dedication to the sanctity of human life. We are honored to be part of a pilgrimage of 8 “Silver Roses” making their way from Canada to the U. S. and Mexico. This is the second time this annual program has come through Delaware. Our Lady of Guadalupe did so much for her people in Mexico that in 1960, a youth organization of the Knights of Columbus wanted to give something back to her. They came up with the idea of running a rose to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Monterrey Mexico. The rose was chosen to commemorate Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses, an important part of the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The journey of the silver rose begins each year in March and ends on December 12th, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. During that time, Silver Roses travel from town to town along routes throughout North America. Several of those routes begin in Canada and end in Mexico.
