In light of the recent card skimming devices found at a local gas station, as well as around the immediate Big Bend region, Major David Harper of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office offers advice on identifying and protecting yourself from gas pump skimmers. According to the National Association for Convenience Stores, 37 million Americans refuel every day. Approximately 29 million pay for fuel with a credit or debit card. When skimming occurs at a gas station, it usually takes place at only one pump and a single compromised pump can capture data from more than 100 cards per day. Greene Publishing, Inc. Trent Abbott and Dustin Williams are excited to announce the first ever Florida Coyote Shootout Hunt. The three-day event, beginning on Friday, March 1, is sure to be a hunt no one wants to miss. To enter the hunt, two person teams are required with an entry fee of $100. Side pots for the biggest and smallest coyote will be $25. The hunt is not confined to Madison County. Teams may hunt anywhere from South Florida to Alabama if they choose, as long as the teams are back at check in on Sunday, March 3, at 3 p.m. Check-in will be located at 2551 NE Old Blue Springs Rd., in Lee. According to Abbott, pre-hunt check-in is not required, however, teams will not be allowed to begin hunting without a tournament code, which will be issued at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1, via or text. This mandatory code will need to be on top of a kill block (3 by 3 by 1 in size) and placed at the roof of the mouth of a coyote. In the event of a coyote’s bottom jaw being blown off, a video of the hunter shaking the coyote with a timestamp is required to be sent to tournament officials. Payment by PayPal, cash, money order or cashiers check is required by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 1. For a full list of details or to enter the tournament, call Abbott at (850) 519-8259 or Williams at (850) 838-7107. SPORTS Madison County Carrier » Wednesday, February 27, 2019 » 11

Madison County High School has an exciting program called Culinary Arts. Students who select this program will have the opportunity to learn skills necessary to work in the food industry. Many of these skills are necessary to either own or operate a high-end restaurant. The program is composed of four sub-courses titled Culinary Arts 1, 2, 3 and 4. In most high schools, Culinary Arts classes 1-3 are taught while Culinary Arts 4 may be taught at a technical school or college. However, all four courses integrate math and science into the instruction offering a well-rounded program.
