    Album Of The Week: Deerhoof’s La Isla Bonita Believe it or not, there are a few bands that have been around for a while that I have yet to take a dive into. One of those bands are San Francisco noise pop punk act Deerhoof, and their new album La Isla Bonita has shown me exactly what I’ve been missing. One of those bands that have managed to stick around since the mid-90s, the variety of sounds and dimensions in each track off of the album is jaw dropping. One moment it sounds like a psychedelic j- pop song and then unpredictably these crunchy rigid guitars come in and obliterate everything. So many influences and styles being showcased in one sound, Deerhoof’s new release is simply amazing with its stunning originality. The album was produced by former music journalist & ex-Mr. Dream drummer Nick Sylvester. For a band that has gained acclaim for being extremely DIY for self-producing their previous albums and self- managing, at first glance it could sound like a risk to make a departure from the norm with a different producer. Sylvester excels with excellent quality, and I also can’t get enough of Greg Saunier’s skills on drums. For all of this polish you might be thinking of, don’t fret. There are a good amount of ear- splitting riff rockers on La Isla Bonita as well. It’s November, which means it’s getting cold and one of your friends is already complaining about it. One thing you shouldn’t complain about are the top tracks off of my Album Of The Week.

Gizonaren harridura irudikatzen dute, arranoen eta belatxen hegalkada bakoitzean, bai eta ere haren airatzeko nahikundea... Les « basa ahaide » - airs sauvages - sont des chants sans paroles très anciens longtemps interprétés par les bergers dans les montagnes de Soule. Ils semblent décrire la fascination de l’homme devant le vol de rapaces comme l’aigle ou l’épervier… 2. Hain segur ere, kantua bertsolari batek egina da Beaumontarren eta Gramontarren arteko gatazka denboran (1434 eta 1449 urteen artean). « La chanson de Berterretche » (dont nous écoutons 5 des 15 couplets qui la composent) retrace l’assassinat du jeune Berterretche, seigneur de Larrau, par le Comte Louis de Beaumont, Gouverneur du Château de Mauléon. Devant épouser Margarita, fille de la maison Ezpeldoi à Etchebar, il refusa de se soumettre au privilège seigneurial accordant au Comte le droit des premières noces. Probablement composée par un improvisateur pendant les guerres opposant Beaumont et Gramont (entre 1434 et 1449). 3.

Mittlerweile sind die beiden, in der letzten Liste angekündigten, neuen Kink Records Releases erschienen und ihr könnte die Years of Decay / Sand Creek Massacre – Split LP und die Hellborn Messiah / Post War Depression – Split LP hier erwerben. Für den weiteren Verlauf des Jahres sind noch einige weitere Veröffentlichungen geplant - als nächstes wird wohl die Tape-Version des Demos von Life Ends (http://www.myspace.com/lifeendsgrindcore) erscheinen. Weiterhin geplant ist die Debüt 7" von The Rätz (http://www.myspace.com/1234theratz) zusammen mit That Lux Good Records und die Debüt 7" von SLUMP (http://www.myspace.com/slumpgrind) zusammen mit Vulgar Records.
