It feels so good to say that after a year on the road, carrying kit and arranging players to venture to all corners of London and beyond to practice and play the game we love. Finsbury Park, we will never take you for granted again. Since we've been gone, the members of the Finsbury Park Sports Partnership have worked incredibly hard in developing this facility into one befitting of all the teams and clubs that use it. With a new field, athletics track and field sports facilities, the stadium is becoming a beacon of competitive activity in north London. Today brings both the A and B team together for a double header of fixtures. The B team has seen significant development in the off season and promises to put together a strong campaign in 2017. Led by quarterback Chris Walker, who enjoyed a fantastic preseason, there are a number of players, new and old(er) that have been dedicated to improving their position in the league. Perhaps victims of their own success in recent years, the A team has seen a host of players leave London for European teams, last year's defensive player of the year, Jonell Pelie, and offensive captain, Charlie Joseph, headline a number of players who are now making waves in the top divisions of the continent. We wish them well and are proud of the success they have achieved, though we hope they will be back soon. Leadership positions have been filled from within, and young faces, many of whom have graduated from the Dynamic Sports Academy, also based here in Finsbury Park, have taken the reigns of leadership. Whatever the offseason circumstances, the challenge for both teams remains the same and there is still much work to be done. Today we welcome the Essex Spartans and London Warriors, and both promise to be great match-ups. Whether this is your first sight of American Football, or you are a friend of the Blitz, we hope you enjoy the matches. TPBF Meet The Visitors: The Essex Spartans The Essex Spartans have been in existence since, 1985 but were officially founded in 1998 by the late Tony Palmer following a merger between the Basildon Chiefs and Redbridge Fire. Previously playing in Basildon and then Hannakins Farm in Billericay until 2015, the Essex Spartans are now based at Thurrock Rugby Club in Grays. Headed up by former Spartan offensive lineman Head Coach Sean Benton and assistant HC Graeme Saint, the Spartans have gone through a significant period of transition in recent years and have enjoyed two victories from two games so far this season, beating newcomers the East Essex Sabres 14 - 20, before shutting out the Ipswich Cardinals 17 - 0. The club also has a thriving Academy programme for 13-18 year olds, the U17 aspect of which were last year's Divisional Champions and finished fourth in the country at their level. The Essex Spartans are thrilled to be back in London to face the Blitz B team today and wish every player a great game. Meet The Visitors: London Warriors The London Warriors were formed in 2007 as a senior team of the successful London Warriors youth team, who had won the British Youth American Football Association the previous two years running. After being accepted by the British American Football League as Affiliate Members, they arranged to play the two friendly matches required under BAFL regulations. In October 2007, the Warriors played home and away games against two teams from the British Universities American Football League - the first game was played at home to the Royal Holloway Vikings and ended in a 54–0 victory. One week later, they travelled to play the Loughborough Aces and won again, this time 42–7. After completing their obligations, the BAFL formally accepted the Warriors’ (the Cobras) application to join the league in December 2007, allowing them to compete as full members for the 2008 season. They were placed into the newly renamed London and South East Conference in Division Two, where they made a huge impact, going on to complete an undefeated season, culminating in victory over the Tamworth Phoenix at Britbowl XXII. In recent years, the London Warriors senior team has been crowned UK National Champions for the past four seasons (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016). Match Report: Bury Saints vs. London Blitz A The second away fixture for the Blitz saw them travel to Bury, a team whose only other Premiership fixture saw them defeated by cross-town rivals, and today’s opponents, the London Warriors. Receiving the opening kick off, the Blitz set out to impose themselves early, with strong running from the stable of backs - Glen Toonga, Gabriel Quartey, Dwight Caulker and Temi Oduyemi - and dominant offensive line play saw the scoreline tick over, with a pass from QB Joe Thompson to Henry Charlton-Weedy complete up the seam for the score in the first quarter. In the second quarter, miscommunication from the Saints resulted in WR Jasper Van Dooren finding himself wide open, walking in for the score. At this point, the Defense started to turn the screw, led from the front with strong by linemen Charlie Cohen, Ari Halldorsson, Alan Blake, Ronel Daley-Thomas and Deejay Ogunkolati, who frequently tore up the Bury backfield. With over 300 yards of rushing in the first half alone, a pick from DB William Kodjo Davis in the 3rd Quarter, along with some big plays being made on both sides of the ball, the balance begun to tip more into the control of the Blitz. When a deep pass in the 4th Quarter was intercepted by Kyle Jervier on the Blitz 1 yard line, it effectively ended the game, with the Blitz climbing to 2 - 0 to kick off their 2017 campaign. Match Photography: Bury Saints vs. London Blitz A Images ©phil3productions Meet The Players: Joe Thompson, QB #5 Where did your Blitz journey begin? My career with the Blitz started 5 years ago as an active member of the roster; although my history with the team goes back as far as 2007 from my time playing against them as a Farnham Knight. After winning a National Championship at The University of Hertfordshire in 2012, the Knights folded and I needed a new team. Considering that many of the coaches at the time were Blitz players, the decision was a no-brainer! Half a decade on, I’ve never looked back and am proud to be a member of the Navy and White. What is your goal for this season? To win a National Championship. Nothing less will do. After coming up short at the final hurdle for the last four years - especially to today’s opponents the London Warriors - it’s time we got back to the top of the Britball mountain. Who is the best coach you've ever had and why? The most influential person in my football career has to be my very first Head Coach (at the Knights youth), Simon Srour. His passion and enthusiasm for the game is infinitely contagious, and the effort that he put in to make Youth football credible in this country is something that hasn’t been seen for a long time since. He took me from an NFL fan who knew a few of the rules and none of the intricacies of the game, and turned me into a National Champion. Without his guidance and leadership, I wouldn’t be the player I am today almost a decade later. What was the best game of your career and why? The best game of my career is, without question, the BUAFL National Championship in 2012 with the Hertfordshire Hurricanes. Personally, I had the best game of my life on the stat sheet; but more importantly our team was firing on all cylinders from the opening kickoff to the final whistle; a culmination of 2 years of hard work and dedication to get past Birmingham after falling in a thriller to them in the previous year’s playoffs. I regularly still look back at that game and can remember specific play calls and the moments that led us to Meet The Partners DraftKings Following extensive engagement throughout the off season, The London Blitz are pleased to announce the team's partnership with Draft Kings on a multi year sponsorship deal. In a pioneering partnership, Draft Kings will be the primary sponsor of the elite senior team for the next three years. As part of the partnership, Draft Kings are committed to developing interest in the sport and will provide valuable practice resources for the club. We have had a strong off-season recruitment with over 75 players registered with both the A and B Teams. We have also had several new coaches join the ranks, with Matt Smith and Jon Goddard joining the staff on the A team, and Derrell Jennings and Chad Austin joining the B team. We have also retained the majority of last season’s staff. We have also had the privilege of guest coaches come down to help at training, including Ed Morgan, Aaron Sanders and Jason Brisbane, which has been an inspiration to the players. We have had a couple players depart to go and challenge themselves in Europe with Glen Toonga, last year’s offensive MVP going to the Dresden Monarchs in the GFL 1 and already making an impact helping the team to a 2-0 start. Kodjo Davis has gone out to play for the Helsinki Roosters in the Vaahteraliga in Finland.

In October of 2013 the club was awarded a Sport England Grant enabling them to buy the training equipment and kit needed to take them to the next level, and their ongoing relationship with Thurston Rugby Club ensured that the club had solid foundations for a long and successful future. 2014 opened with the news that the Saints had been accepted into the British American Football League. The roster continued to expand and preparations for the Club’s first ever competitive season started in earnest. Spring blossomed with a successful Controlled Scrimmage against fellow new team, the Portsmouth Dreadnaughts, followed by a victory over the London Blitz Development Team, and a loss away at Swindon Storm. Jump to 2015, and the Saints went into the season with something to prove after a promising but inconsistent rookie year that finished 5-5. However, after starting off with a close victory over the Essex Spartans, they began to dominate the division, frequently running up 40 plus points and finishing the regular season 10-0. The Saints also stormed through the playoffs, beating the Bristol Apache 47-12 in the final of the Rose Bowl and earning a promotion to Division 1.

Chairman’s Welcome Welcome to New River. Last weekend the London Blitz suffered a loss at the hands of someone other than the London Warriors for the first time in a domestic competition since 2009, falling 17-14 to the Bristol Aztecs. This was a wakeup call for all our players, and showed the complacency with which the team had grown to see the competition outside of the capital. This year the parity in the league is greater than ever, and the Blitz will have a battle on their hands every single time they take the field. In the current standings, another loss is not an option if we are to progress to the playoffs. Sunday will see a reinvigorated team take the field as the Blitz face the London Olympians. Nothing will be taken for granted anymore. Enjoy the game. London Olympians The London Olympians are one of the oldest and most successful teams in British American football. Formed in Streatham in 1983, the Olympians won 13 championships between 1992 and 2006, as well as two Eurobowls. Since returning to the Premier division under long-time Head Coach Riq Ayub in 2012, the Olympians have made the playoffs on three occasions. With a new home venue at West Ham and many fresh faces on the playing staff, 2016 sees the Olympians in rebuilding mode both on and off the field as the club looks to re-establish itself as one of the elite programmes in football. • London Warriors 2016
Chairman’s Welcome Welcome to Hertfordshire for the final regular season fixture of the 2016 campaign. The season has been an eventful one and since the Senior team last played on this ground there has been a significant change in the team’s performances. The loss to Bristol was a greatly needed wake-up call to the entire team. Not since before my time with the Blitz had we lost to an opponent other than the London Warriors in a domestic fixture, and many players did not see it as a possibility. Since that point the team has pulled together and rededicated itself to the grind and intensity that earned this success in the first place. This hard work has been evident in the results since our last visit. The under 19 team has had no such need to reaffirm their position in the league and have continued to be a force in their division, cementing themselves another shot at the postseason. Today, as they take on the Kent Exiles, they look to keep the momentum going into the postseason and we wish them every luck with their campaign. The London Blitz B team have also taken significant strides over the course of their second full season and should be proud of their achievements as they continue to develop their own identity and nurture some significant talent that will be a great asset to the London Blitz as a whole in the near future. For the senior team, today’s opponent is a familiar one, and the Blitz – Warriors matchup has become a mainstay of the last game of the season, often serving as a preview for the championship game.

OFFICIAL PROGRAM VS LONDON WARRIORS 8th June 2014 www.colchestergladiators.com Message from the Chairman Welcome one and all to Mill Road, where today the Colchester Gladiators take on the fearsome London Warriors. Following a disappointing performance against the Cambridgeshire Cats, the Gladiators are looking to bounce back, but face stiff opposition in the form of the reigning Premier Division Champions. The Warriors are a team with tremendous pedigree, many of their players are junior or youth graduates, and the team boasts terrific depth. It also reaps the benefit of having coaches with NFL experience, both in the US, and in the now defunct NFL Europe. They are current favourites to repeat their title in 2014, so this will be a terrific test for the Gladiators in a higher division. This represents the first of three consecutive games for the senior Gladiators, and will no doubt be the most trying month of the year. Todays game precedes the visit of Berkshire Renegades next week, before the Gladiators hit the road again, visiting the former Premier Champions, the London Blitz. It’s this period where Head Coach Matt Roberts will really need to ensure his team are fit, healthy, and ready to go. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Gladiators, as we look towards the biggest games of the year. Thoughts today are also with our Junior team, as Tim Rowe leads them down to Southampton to take on the Solent Thrashers. This long trip will prove an excellent yardstick to measure the team by - the Thrashers are a well organised unit who should pressure the young Gladiators.

The club is performing well at all levels. Especially last weekend where the under 19s, A Team and B team all scored 50 points or more and kept shut outs in their respective games. The A Team is sitting at 7-1, and both the B Team and U19 squads remain undefeated, meaning that all three are on track for post-season football. Right now the B team are at 6-0, and they currently have the #1 ranked Offence and Defence in the SFC 2 East. They head into the final two games of the regular season looking to remain undefeated and secure home field advantage for the playoffs. The U19s are sitting at 5-0, and they also have the #1 ranked Offence and Defence in their Division. If they can keep their form for the remaining games, they’ll be well on track for another successive National Championship. They’ll certainly be looking to put in another convincing performance today as they host the 4-1 Solent Seahawks in a top of the table clash. The A team bounced back from a narrow loss against the London Warriors with a strong performance away against the London Olympians in Week 11, finishing the game 0-47, following this victory up with a 58-0 win over the Bury Saints maintaining the #1 ranked Offence in the Prem South.

  • International Players Added to Rosters 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 27, 2020 FOUR INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS ADDED TO ROSTERS FOR 2020 SEASON Four teams will carry an additional overseas player on their practice squads in 2020 as part of the International Player Pathway program, the NFL announced today. ISAAC ALARCON, a former Mexican college football national champion, will join the Dallas Cowboys. DAVID BADA, a former defensive end for the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns of the German Football League, will join the Washington Redskins. Australian MATT LEO, who played football for the Iowa State Cyclones, will join the Philadelphia Eagles and former Austrian U19 national team running back SANDRO PLATZGUMMER will join the New York Giants. The four NFC East clubs will carry these overseas players on their roster until the end of training camp. At that time, the players are eligible for an international player practice squad exemption, granting the team an extra practice squad member that is ineligible to be activated during the 2020 season. The NFC East was chosen to receive these players in a random draw. After the NFL conducted an International Combine in Germany last October, the players received additional training and development alongside NFL players and draft hopefuls in Florida at IMG Academy this winter. The International Player Pathway Program was instituted in 2017 and aims to provide international athletes the opportunity to compete at the NFL level, improve their skills and ultimately earn a spot on an NFL roster. Three players that participated in the program in 2019 – Jakob Johnson (New England Patriots), Durval Queiroz Neto (Miami Dolphins) and Christian Wade (Buffalo Bills) – will return to their AFC East teams for the upcoming season.
