BAFANL PREMIER SOUTH Vs BAFANL PREMIER SOUTH LONDON SOUTH WALES vs BLITZ WARRIORS 16 GAME 3 Chairman’s Welcome Welcome to the University Of Hertfordshire Sports Village. Given the London Blitz’s ‘nomadic’ lifestyle during the 2016 season on account of the refurbishments in Finsbury Park (which I’m pleased to say are making fantastic progress), I'd like to say a huge thank you to the University of Hertfordshire for hosting our home game today against the South Wales warriors. Despite the significant changes that took place at the end of the 2015 season, not only to our home ground, but also to our coaching staff and committee, the club has demonstrated its ability to remain focused on what really matters - staying strong as a team and winning games. Our performance in the opening games of the season against Farnham and Bristol have demonstrated why we are once again contenders for the national title. Led by head coach Damian Anderson, our versatile offence has kept defences guessing, and we have managed to put up big numbers with both running and passing plays. Our defence, led by coach Duncan Burford, has also put in solid performances, ensuring the victory on both outings against challenging opponents. The match this afternoon against the South Wales Warriors will be an exciting one. Last season the Blitz came out on top in both games, but the Warriors are coming fresh off a 35-18 win over the London Olympians, and they’ll want to continue that momentum with another strong performance. We can’t take this game for granted. Finally I'd like to say another thank you, this time to one of our partners for this season, Sport Insure. Injuries are an unpleasant but inevitable part of our sport, and Sport Insure gives players peace of mind that their future will be protected whatever happens, so that they can focus on winning. For more information please visit http://nlfa.sport-insure.co.uk/blitz/ We still have a long season ahead of us, but we know where we need to get to and we’re already heading in the right direction! South Wales Warriors The South Wales Warriors are an American Football team currently competing in Premiership South Conference of the BAFA Community Leagues (BAFACL). They play their home games at the home of Llanharan rugby club. The club was formed in 1993 as the Tiger Bay Warriors, and started out as a Junior Flag team. After withdrawing from the league in 2000, the team was reformed as the South Wales Warriors in 2001. In 2011, the South Wales Warriors beat the West Coast Trojans at the Division 2 Britbowl final at Crystal Palace Stadium 48-20, crowning them Britbowl XXV BAFANL Division 2 Champions. In 2012 the South Wales Warriors were promoted to the Premiership South Division after an expansion programme run by BAFA. Joining the London Blitz Daniel Howard - Linebacker #44 Having played for 8 seasons before joining the Blitz, the two key reasons I chose to join the club were, first and foremost, to win a national title, and also to learn more from some of the best coaches and players in the country. Given that it had been nearly 5 seasons since I had participated at a team try-out, I approached the rookie days with a bit of nervousness! With the number of returners and coaches on hand, the sessions flew past. Before we even got kitted up, the drills and situational plays were used to teach core skills, and to see who had previous experience. The first contact session was great, although the next few days of aching weren't! Over the next few weeks, I, along some of the other B Team veterans and the club newcomers, began to get called up to the A Team for training sessions. My first residential camp opened a lot of eyes – early starts, bad dancing (especially on my part) and more than a dozen training sessions in a weekend meant we were able to install a lot of plays, refine technique and bond as a team – and with just a few weeks before the first game, it was crucial. Hearing that I had made the A team in the week before the first match against the Farnham Knights was a great feeling – especially pulling on the jersey for the first time, and setting foot on the field for the first kick off. The next match vs South Wales Warriors will show our intentions for the rest of the season, and you can definitely feel that we're working towards something special this year. Bristol Aztecs vs. London Blitz Match Report After a comfortable win against the Farnham Knights, the London Blitz traveled west to Bristol to take on the Aztecs. The bus ride over didn’t seem to do the players much good, and Bristol took full advantage of an uninspiring Blitz start to put the first 7 points on the board. The Blitz answered just before half time with a much needed score, but failed to convert the extra point, and headed into halftime trailing 6-7. It took until the 3rd quarter before both the Blitz offence and the defence found their rhythm. But when they did, they showed why they are once again title contenders. Deji Alli and Temi Oduyemi led the way with some impressive and powerful running on both sides of the tackle, with the running backs finding the end zone multiple times. The Atzecs were not ready for the sudden change of pace, and soon the score climbed to 26-7. The game was finally put away when the defence stepped up. Rodon Zeqiri deserves special mention for almost single-handedly stopping multiple Bristol drives. The Aztecs attempted some trickery with a fake punt to get themselves back in the game, but it was covered well, with Stefan Gonzalez making the tackle to secure a turnover on downs. However, Bristol did not give up, and kept throwing the ball around the field, which had proved fruitful throughout the day. They managed to find end zone twice late in the 4th quarter; the final score standing at 39-19. It was not the best game of Blitz football and the players will be poised to do better next Sunday on the 8th of May, home against South Wales Warriors. In October of 2013 the club was awarded a Sport England Grant enabling them to buy the training equipment and kit needed to take them to the next level, and their ongoing relationship with Thurston Rugby Club ensured that the club had solid foundations for a long and successful future. 2014 opened with the news that the Saints had been accepted into the British American Football League. The roster continued to expand and preparations for the Club’s first ever competitive season started in earnest. Spring blossomed with a successful Controlled Scrimmage against fellow new team, the Portsmouth Dreadnaughts, followed by a victory over the London Blitz Development Team, and a loss away at Swindon Storm. Jump to 2015, and the Saints went into the season with something to prove after a promising but inconsistent rookie year that finished 5-5. However, after starting off with a close victory over the Essex Spartans, they began to dominate the division, frequently running up 40 plus points and finishing the regular season 10-0. The Saints also stormed through the playoffs, beating the Bristol Apache 47-12 in the final of the Rose Bowl and earning a promotion to Division 1.

Chairman’s Welcome Welcome to New River. Last weekend the London Blitz suffered a loss at the hands of someone other than the London Warriors for the first time in a domestic competition since 2009, falling 17-14 to the Bristol Aztecs. This was a wakeup call for all our players, and showed the complacency with which the team had grown to see the competition outside of the capital. This year the parity in the league is greater than ever, and the Blitz will have a battle on their hands every single time they take the field. In the current standings, another loss is not an option if we are to progress to the playoffs. Sunday will see a reinvigorated team take the field as the Blitz face the London Olympians. Nothing will be taken for granted anymore. Enjoy the game. London Olympians The London Olympians are one of the oldest and most successful teams in British American football. Formed in Streatham in 1983, the Olympians won 13 championships between 1992 and 2006, as well as two Eurobowls. Since returning to the Premier division under long-time Head Coach Riq Ayub in 2012, the Olympians have made the playoffs on three occasions. With a new home venue at West Ham and many fresh faces on the playing staff, 2016 sees the Olympians in rebuilding mode both on and off the field as the club looks to re-establish itself as one of the elite programmes in football. It feels so good to say that after a year on the road, carrying kit and arranging players to venture to all corners of London and beyond to practice and play the game we love. Finsbury Park, we will never take you for granted again. Since we've been gone, the members of the Finsbury Park Sports Partnership have worked incredibly hard in developing this facility into one befitting of all the teams and clubs that use it. With a new field, athletics track and field sports facilities, the stadium is becoming a beacon of competitive activity in north London. Today brings both the A and B team together for a double header of fixtures. The B team has seen significant development in the off season and promises to put together a strong campaign in 2017. Led by quarterback Chris Walker, who enjoyed a fantastic preseason, there are a number of players, new and old(er) that have been dedicated to improving their position in the league.

  • London Warriors 2016
Chairman’s Welcome Welcome to Hertfordshire for the final regular season fixture of the 2016 campaign. The season has been an eventful one and since the Senior team last played on this ground there has been a significant change in the team’s performances. The loss to Bristol was a greatly needed wake-up call to the entire team. Not since before my time with the Blitz had we lost to an opponent other than the London Warriors in a domestic fixture, and many players did not see it as a possibility. Since that point the team has pulled together and rededicated itself to the grind and intensity that earned this success in the first place. This hard work has been evident in the results since our last visit. The under 19 team has had no such need to reaffirm their position in the league and have continued to be a force in their division, cementing themselves another shot at the postseason. Today, as they take on the Kent Exiles, they look to keep the momentum going into the postseason and we wish them every luck with their campaign. The London Blitz B team have also taken significant strides over the course of their second full season and should be proud of their achievements as they continue to develop their own identity and nurture some significant talent that will be a great asset to the London Blitz as a whole in the near future. For the senior team, today’s opponent is a familiar one, and the Blitz – Warriors matchup has become a mainstay of the last game of the season, often serving as a preview for the championship game.

OFFICIAL PROGRAM VS LONDON WARRIORS 8th June 2014 www.colchestergladiators.com Message from the Chairman Welcome one and all to Mill Road, where today the Colchester Gladiators take on the fearsome London Warriors. Following a disappointing performance against the Cambridgeshire Cats, the Gladiators are looking to bounce back, but face stiff opposition in the form of the reigning Premier Division Champions. The Warriors are a team with tremendous pedigree, many of their players are junior or youth graduates, and the team boasts terrific depth. It also reaps the benefit of having coaches with NFL experience, both in the US, and in the now defunct NFL Europe. They are current favourites to repeat their title in 2014, so this will be a terrific test for the Gladiators in a higher division. This represents the first of three consecutive games for the senior Gladiators, and will no doubt be the most trying month of the year. Todays game precedes the visit of Berkshire Renegades next week, before the Gladiators hit the road again, visiting the former Premier Champions, the London Blitz. It’s this period where Head Coach Matt Roberts will really need to ensure his team are fit, healthy, and ready to go. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Gladiators, as we look towards the biggest games of the year. Thoughts today are also with our Junior team, as Tim Rowe leads them down to Southampton to take on the Solent Thrashers. This long trip will prove an excellent yardstick to measure the team by - the Thrashers are a well organised unit who should pressure the young Gladiators.

The club is performing well at all levels. Especially last weekend where the under 19s, A Team and B team all scored 50 points or more and kept shut outs in their respective games. The A Team is sitting at 7-1, and both the B Team and U19 squads remain undefeated, meaning that all three are on track for post-season football. Right now the B team are at 6-0, and they currently have the #1 ranked Offence and Defence in the SFC 2 East. They head into the final two games of the regular season looking to remain undefeated and secure home field advantage for the playoffs. The U19s are sitting at 5-0, and they also have the #1 ranked Offence and Defence in their Division. If they can keep their form for the remaining games, they’ll be well on track for another successive National Championship. They’ll certainly be looking to put in another convincing performance today as they host the 4-1 Solent Seahawks in a top of the table clash. The A team bounced back from a narrow loss against the London Warriors with a strong performance away against the London Olympians in Week 11, finishing the game 0-47, following this victory up with a 58-0 win over the Bury Saints maintaining the #1 ranked Offence in the Prem South.
