In October of 2013 the club was awarded a Sport England Grant enabling them to buy the training equipment and kit needed to take them to the next level, and their ongoing relationship with Thurston Rugby Club ensured that the club had solid foundations for a long and successful future. 2014 opened with the news that the Saints had been accepted into the British American Football League. The roster continued to expand and preparations for the Club’s first ever competitive season started in earnest. Spring blossomed with a successful Controlled Scrimmage against fellow new team, the Portsmouth Dreadnaughts, followed by a victory over the London Blitz Development Team, and a loss away at Swindon Storm. Jump to 2015, and the Saints went into the season with something to prove after a promising but inconsistent rookie year that finished 5-5. However, after starting off with a close victory over the Essex Spartans, they began to dominate the division, frequently running up 40 plus points and finishing the regular season 10-0. The Saints also stormed through the playoffs, beating the Bristol Apache 47-12 in the final of the Rose Bowl and earning a promotion to Division 1. The Saints then continued to dominate in Division 1, where they finished 9-0-1, with only the Sussex Thunder capable of holding them to a draw. They also romped through the playoffs, beating the #1 seeded Edinburgh Wolves 13-21 in the final, earning a promotion to the Premiership South from Division 2 in just two seasons. Match Report: London Blitz A vs. Bristol Aztecs London Blitz A continued their #perfect season after a fourth quarter Oliver Bishop sack, safety and Kyle Jervier kick return sealed a tight game. The Blitz v Aztecs game started brightly for the Blitz defence who picked up a fumble and gave the ball to their offense on their 29 yard line. The offense, led by Joe Thompson, couldn’t capitalise on the opportunity and turned the ball over on downs after going for it and missing on 4th down. On the Blitz’s next drive, things took a turn for the worst as a fumble gave the ball to the Aztecs’ offense in the redzone. Two pass interference calls on the defence had the ball inside the 5 for the visitors and they took full advantage, scoring the first TD of the game with a run by #34. Aztecs missed their PAT and led 0-6. With the Blitz down, Remmy Ezeabasili returned the kick-off to the 31 yard line. The offense moved the ball well and on 2nd down at their own 44 yard line, with Remmy Ezeabasili in at RB, they broke off a 56 yard TD run to put 6 on the board for the Blitz. With the PAT converted, they led 7-6. The game remained 7-6 for the majority of the 2nd quarter and with the clock winding down, Mike Aboujaoude converted on 4th down with a pass from QB Joe Thompson. Then with only seconds on the clock, a pass interference foul called on the visitors’ #4 on Sam Rodgers gave the Blitz a chance to hit a field goal. Jasper Van-Dooren converted the field goal and the Blitz went into the half 10-6 up. The 3rd quarter went scoreless as both defences dominated with the offenses concentrating on their run game. Into the 4th quarter and the Blitz put Temi Oduyemi in at RB. Oduyemi carried the ball a few times before breaking a 25 yard gain to put the ball in the redzone. After a holding call pushed the offense out of the redzone, the Blitz had a 3rd and 17 on the 27 yard line. The Blitz couldn’t pick up the 1st down but set up a 30 yard field goal which Jack Daley converted giving the home side a 13-6 lead. After both offenses punted on their next drives, the Aztecs’ offense started from their 15 yard line. A big sack by Oliver Bishop on 3rd down forced the Aztecs into a punting situation. On the 4th down, a high snap over the punter’s head and out the back of the endzone resulted in a safety which made the score line 15-6 in favour of the home side. On the ensuing kick off, Blitz WR Kyle Jervier returned the ball for another TD and after the PAT, the Blitz lead stood at 22-6. The Aztecs offense took the field with hopes of a miracle but the Blitz’s winning mentality shone through as Kodjo Davis came up with the interception to end the game and give the Blitz a 22-6 win. Blitz reporter Yonis Aden Meet The Players: José Van Oosten, DB #32 Where did your Blitz journey begin? My Blitz journey began at training camp in 2016. I hadn’t done any type of exercise in over 6 months due to an injury and I had just flown into the UK. I woke up at 3am to drive to camp and as soon as I arrived at 6am I was put in a kick-off drill and was sprinting down the field. Needless to say I was very uncoordinated and tripped myself up on the first play. What is your goal for this season? My goal for the team is to end the drought and be crowned as national champions. We have a young and very talented team and I’m confident we can go all the way. That said, we’re taking the journey one game at a time. On a personal level, I strive to be recognised as a leader on the team. Who is the best coach you've ever had and why? I’ve had a number of amazing coaches that I’m very grateful for. That said the coach that stands out most is Wayne Hill. I played under Wayne’s tutelage for five years and he really made me the player I am today. Beyond his ability to mould students into disciplined, knowledgeable and intelligent football players, he was the one that instilled principles of work ethic, enthusiasm and effort that has pushed me as a football player. What was the best game of your career and why? BUCS National Championship against Hertfordshire Hurricanes in 2013. It wasn’t the best game I played personally, but it was an amazing team effort to come from behind and win the Championship with a minute or so left. I will never forget the defence I played with in that game. We played lights out and kept one of the best offences in the country to 13 points despite starting in terrible field position numerous times. Couple that with the fact that we’d suffered two heart-breaking losses in the previous two National Championship games (one against the Hurricanes in 2012) and you can imagine how much this meant. If you could capture your career in one word, what would it be? Perseverance Meet The Partners DraftKings Following extensive engagement throughout the off season, The London Blitz are pleased to announce the team's partnership with Draft Kings on a multi year sponsorship deal. Chairman’s Welcome Welcome to New River. Last weekend the London Blitz suffered a loss at the hands of someone other than the London Warriors for the first time in a domestic competition since 2009, falling 17-14 to the Bristol Aztecs. This was a wakeup call for all our players, and showed the complacency with which the team had grown to see the competition outside of the capital. This year the parity in the league is greater than ever, and the Blitz will have a battle on their hands every single time they take the field. In the current standings, another loss is not an option if we are to progress to the playoffs. Sunday will see a reinvigorated team take the field as the Blitz face the London Olympians. Nothing will be taken for granted anymore. Enjoy the game. London Olympians The London Olympians are one of the oldest and most successful teams in British American football. Formed in Streatham in 1983, the Olympians won 13 championships between 1992 and 2006, as well as two Eurobowls. Since returning to the Premier division under long-time Head Coach Riq Ayub in 2012, the Olympians have made the playoffs on three occasions. With a new home venue at West Ham and many fresh faces on the playing staff, 2016 sees the Olympians in rebuilding mode both on and off the field as the club looks to re-establish itself as one of the elite programmes in football. It feels so good to say that after a year on the road, carrying kit and arranging players to venture to all corners of London and beyond to practice and play the game we love. Finsbury Park, we will never take you for granted again. Since we've been gone, the members of the Finsbury Park Sports Partnership have worked incredibly hard in developing this facility into one befitting of all the teams and clubs that use it. With a new field, athletics track and field sports facilities, the stadium is becoming a beacon of competitive activity in north London. Today brings both the A and B team together for a double header of fixtures. The B team has seen significant development in the off season and promises to put together a strong campaign in 2017. Led by quarterback Chris Walker, who enjoyed a fantastic preseason, there are a number of players, new and old(er) that have been dedicated to improving their position in the league.

  • London Warriors 2016
Chairman’s Welcome Welcome to Hertfordshire for the final regular season fixture of the 2016 campaign. The season has been an eventful one and since the Senior team last played on this ground there has been a significant change in the team’s performances. The loss to Bristol was a greatly needed wake-up call to the entire team. Not since before my time with the Blitz had we lost to an opponent other than the London Warriors in a domestic fixture, and many players did not see it as a possibility. Since that point the team has pulled together and rededicated itself to the grind and intensity that earned this success in the first place. This hard work has been evident in the results since our last visit. The under 19 team has had no such need to reaffirm their position in the league and have continued to be a force in their division, cementing themselves another shot at the postseason. Today, as they take on the Kent Exiles, they look to keep the momentum going into the postseason and we wish them every luck with their campaign. The London Blitz B team have also taken significant strides over the course of their second full season and should be proud of their achievements as they continue to develop their own identity and nurture some significant talent that will be a great asset to the London Blitz as a whole in the near future. For the senior team, today’s opponent is a familiar one, and the Blitz – Warriors matchup has become a mainstay of the last game of the season, often serving as a preview for the championship game.

OFFICIAL PROGRAM VS LONDON WARRIORS 8th June 2014 www.colchestergladiators.com Message from the Chairman Welcome one and all to Mill Road, where today the Colchester Gladiators take on the fearsome London Warriors. Following a disappointing performance against the Cambridgeshire Cats, the Gladiators are looking to bounce back, but face stiff opposition in the form of the reigning Premier Division Champions. The Warriors are a team with tremendous pedigree, many of their players are junior or youth graduates, and the team boasts terrific depth. It also reaps the benefit of having coaches with NFL experience, both in the US, and in the now defunct NFL Europe. They are current favourites to repeat their title in 2014, so this will be a terrific test for the Gladiators in a higher division. This represents the first of three consecutive games for the senior Gladiators, and will no doubt be the most trying month of the year. Todays game precedes the visit of Berkshire Renegades next week, before the Gladiators hit the road again, visiting the former Premier Champions, the London Blitz. It’s this period where Head Coach Matt Roberts will really need to ensure his team are fit, healthy, and ready to go. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Gladiators, as we look towards the biggest games of the year. Thoughts today are also with our Junior team, as Tim Rowe leads them down to Southampton to take on the Solent Thrashers. This long trip will prove an excellent yardstick to measure the team by - the Thrashers are a well organised unit who should pressure the young Gladiators.

The club is performing well at all levels. Especially last weekend where the under 19s, A Team and B team all scored 50 points or more and kept shut outs in their respective games. The A Team is sitting at 7-1, and both the B Team and U19 squads remain undefeated, meaning that all three are on track for post-season football. Right now the B team are at 6-0, and they currently have the #1 ranked Offence and Defence in the SFC 2 East. They head into the final two games of the regular season looking to remain undefeated and secure home field advantage for the playoffs. The U19s are sitting at 5-0, and they also have the #1 ranked Offence and Defence in their Division. If they can keep their form for the remaining games, they’ll be well on track for another successive National Championship. They’ll certainly be looking to put in another convincing performance today as they host the 4-1 Solent Seahawks in a top of the table clash. The A team bounced back from a narrow loss against the London Warriors with a strong performance away against the London Olympians in Week 11, finishing the game 0-47, following this victory up with a 58-0 win over the Bury Saints maintaining the #1 ranked Offence in the Prem South.

  • International Players Added to Rosters 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 27, 2020 FOUR INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS ADDED TO ROSTERS FOR 2020 SEASON Four teams will carry an additional overseas player on their practice squads in 2020 as part of the International Player Pathway program, the NFL announced today. ISAAC ALARCON, a former Mexican college football national champion, will join the Dallas Cowboys. DAVID BADA, a former defensive end for the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns of the German Football League, will join the Washington Redskins. Australian MATT LEO, who played football for the Iowa State Cyclones, will join the Philadelphia Eagles and former Austrian U19 national team running back SANDRO PLATZGUMMER will join the New York Giants. The four NFC East clubs will carry these overseas players on their roster until the end of training camp. At that time, the players are eligible for an international player practice squad exemption, granting the team an extra practice squad member that is ineligible to be activated during the 2020 season. The NFC East was chosen to receive these players in a random draw. After the NFL conducted an International Combine in Germany last October, the players received additional training and development alongside NFL players and draft hopefuls in Florida at IMG Academy this winter. The International Player Pathway Program was instituted in 2017 and aims to provide international athletes the opportunity to compete at the NFL level, improve their skills and ultimately earn a spot on an NFL roster. Three players that participated in the program in 2019 – Jakob Johnson (New England Patriots), Durval Queiroz Neto (Miami Dolphins) and Christian Wade (Buffalo Bills) – will return to their AFC East teams for the upcoming season.
